*edit - didn't see Blue Salt's post above this one before posting. Sorry for the redundancy...

He didn't jump right into a college assistant coaching job at UM. He worked in an entry-level job at the Ravens for 3 years, after graduating from Oregon (or Oregon State) where he worked as undergrad assistant for Mike Riley for 4 years. My guess is that he wouldn't have been hired at UM if John hadn't given him good marks for his work in Baltimore, and wouldn't have advanced up the chain at UM if he hadn't handled his responsibilities well in his initial job. As I read the Harbaughs, he'd get a job based on his name, but keep it based on his work.

03/19/2017 - 6:28pm Creative officiating

I nearly went ballistic at those "foul" calls near the end of the first half. And then seeing that smug little weasel on the screen for the half-time interview made me want to reach through the screen to punch him in his hooker-pimping puss. Some day the technology will exist.
That's all. Just logged in to rant. Sometimes Schadenfreude isn't shameful.

03/15/2017 - 11:10am From address means nothing

Just like with snail mail, the "from" or return address is provided by the email originator or letter sender without any check to ensure it's legitimate. If you have doubts, look at the entire email envelope, that shows originating IP address (like the postmark on an envelope, it shows where the letter was actually processed.) your email client should give you this option.

02/16/2017 - 5:11pm Yep

I too once tried to smoke a Camel No-filter. Life changing event.

02/16/2017 - 5:09pm Nope

Those aren't ears.

02/11/2017 - 8:54pm We got the UP

You got Toledo.

02/11/2017 - 8:02pm I get the "don't click...

... if you don't like it" thing, but my dislike of this type post is the same as my main peeve with the site: it's near frikkin impossible with an iPhone (which is my main internet connection) to look at posts that have been shuffled off the main page. Posts like this make germane topics disappear into the nethersphere. But either way I'll prolly still keep coming back. I'll just bitch under my breath a bit more if these type posts abound.
I'm not insensitive to my (and society's) responsibility to the ill and feeble. But everyone knows someone who needs help and we can't all post those here.

02/07/2017 - 9:13am In their defense

They did fire the guy. No word yet on whether they've fired the hooker.

02/07/2017 - 9:10am Really?

I could have sworn it was holding others to a higher standard.

02/02/2017 - 8:51pm Butch "Geisel" Jones...

When the Star-Belly children went out to play ball,
Could a Plain- Belly get in the game…? Not at all.
You only could play if your bellies had stars
And the Plain-Belly children had none upon thars.

01/24/2017 - 9:30pm Thank you

Thank you

01/20/2017 - 1:23pm Because they're Bastard People

That's what they are. They're just Bastard People.

01/18/2017 - 8:54pm Sorry to differ with you...

But I've read your post 5 times and I really don't see any of it as obvious. Confusing, yes...

01/18/2017 - 12:49am I'd say the administration was not amused...

"The University of Oregon suspended football strength and conditioning coach Irele Oderinde one month without pay... The school announced the decision in a statement Tuesday evening and detailed a review of the incident. It added that all future workouts have been modified and the strength and conditioning coach will now report to director of performance and sports science Andrew Murray instead of coach Willie Taggart, who apologized in the statement."

01/05/2017 - 9:06am Thanks for the recap!

That pretty succinctly summarizes the board. Kudos.

12/29/2016 - 9:54pm ... and 'I'm sorry everybody'

... and 'I'm sorry everybody' should be 'get off my case.'

12/29/2016 - 9:16pm I'm hoping

he tried to walk out with a bowl he didn't pay for. What could be better than to be banned from the Belk Bowl for stealing a Belk bowl?!?

12/20/2016 - 10:41am Maybe it's just me

but I'm sensing a little hostility toward Mr. Couch here...

12/17/2016 - 4:50pm Grammar's fine.

Just has issues with homonyms and spelling.

12/15/2016 - 2:58pm I think

that was just bad grammar. He meant "many" rather than "much." That takes the bitter edge off the sanity.

12/15/2016 - 10:56am I don't follow

The music scene or the twit scene. I should just keep my finger off the button til I learn to follow a scene.

12/15/2016 - 10:54am Ah

Thank you! I should get on the twitters then I could read those things...

12/15/2016 - 10:48am I must not understand the rules

I was under the impression that coaches/program associates are not allowed to comment on unsigned recruits. Hoping I'm wrong or that this doesn't fall under that rubric.

12/14/2016 - 9:32am Some schools

have the foresight to arrange for proxy test-takers. You know, smart students who will take a test for a football player whose busy schedule doesn't allow time for those inconveniences. Why don't we do this?!?

/S in case you couldn't figure it out...

12/14/2016 - 9:03am Great advice

on embracing winter. It's my favorite season up here. The thing to keep in mind is that there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing choices. If you're prepared, you'll be warm. But I really doubt the temps will be much lower for you here than Nebraska, you'll just need to learn how to deal with snow. Daily.

12/14/2016 - 7:43am Houghton/Hancock hills

are hard to deal with in the wintertime. Houghton streets are bad enough without snow let alone blanketed. I strongly recommend an awd with snow tires. If you can't afford the AWD at least get snow tires. They make a huge difference. I also second the previous post about looking at a few of the smaller towns for housing.

Oh, and welcome to the UP!

12/05/2016 - 5:34pm Trying to recall

where I first heard about the "decided schematic advantage"... seems like it was one of those Indiana schools... cant remember how that worked out.

12/05/2016 - 10:08am I think it's safe

to say that no players think like him.

11/28/2016 - 9:11pm I'm not one

to call pereira a fucking douchebag but I don't know how to finish this sentence. I've woken up many times the last 2 nights literally choking on my own rage.

11/27/2016 - 9:48am You're exactly right.

It might seem self-serving.

11/23/2016 - 9:20pm But he wants to believe

Don't burst his bubble.

11/22/2016 - 3:14pm Where the hell

was your wife when you were hatching this brilliant plan?!? I'm assuming your kids are too young to adopt the role but she should know it's her job to keep you from intentionally doing stupid and self-destructive things...
I can see no scenario in which this ends well, short or long term.

10/26/2016 - 3:13pm Loved his call when UM sacked the qb:

"They couldn't believe he ate the ball, they couldn't believe he ate the whole thing!"
He's been saying that a lot this year.

10/20/2016 - 10:46am My worry about the State game

Based on dantonios comments yesterday, is that they're going to be playing is especially dirty, trying to hurt as many of our players as they can. I never hated state before damtino, but I do now because he coaches dirty play. I have no doubt of a victory. I don't want it to be pyrrhic.

06/26/2016 - 11:13pm Yep yep yep!

Thank you. Well said.

06/23/2016 - 12:07am Really? No one?!?

I just assumed there'd be at least one other Monty Python fan jumping on this.
"...and pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space, 'cause there's bugger all down here on earth."

06/17/2016 - 12:58pm Belly laugh

Thank you!

06/16/2016 - 5:15pm As he says

We may be destroyed but we will not be defeated.

06/12/2016 - 9:24am That's why I use

Colonial Penn insurance! You can never be turned down and your premium will never increase!!

04/27/2016 - 2:22pm It's not a hijack

Until someone replies.

Oh...

04/09/2016 - 9:49am WOTD

Good job on "feckless."
All I can say in response is "Feck Delaney."

04/07/2016 - 10:52am Thank you!!!

My dog is wondering why I suddenly laughed out loud.

03/04/2016 - 1:52pm Winningest coach of all time

John Gagliardi's teams didn't tackle in practice, didn't use blocking sleds, didn't require weight lifting, and limited practices to 90 minutes, but were always championship caliber. I suspect there are lots of standard practices that could be changed or eliminating without disrupting the game.
His book, "Winning With 'No's' " is an excellent read if you're interested in a very different perspective on how to coach. I liken him to Wooden in his approach to the game.

02/27/2016 - 12:17pm Lesson learned

Never post while crabby from the flu. Very sorry. I have no right to question anyone else's moral center.

02/25/2016 - 10:05pm So

Parents who screw their kid out of millions are decent but wrong, while someone who says something you disagree with is "contemptible" and "repugnant." I question your moral compass.

02/25/2016 - 9:59pm Again I call bullshit.

You and Brando keep calling them "good and decent people" who did wrong. So exactly when does good and decent doing wrong turn to evil? When it's rape? Pedophaelia? Would they then be bad people acting decently in social situations? To me, what they are CONTINUING TO DO (sorry, don't know how to do italics) to their son is as inexcusable as perpetuating heinous acts on another. I simply cannot comprehend the lack of parental love that would allow this.

02/25/2016 - 9:53pm I call bullshit.

I don't give a goddamn how nice they appear. People don't act "out of character." They act in character in all circumstances, and in extreme circumstances that behavior can appear "out of character," but it's not. It is obvious they love themselves more than their son. Many narcissists and sociopaths appear very kind and considerate, until it means losing what they want. And obviously they want their stuff more than their son's well-being.
They get to be that way. But we get to call them out. For all the good it does...

02/19/2016 - 9:25am Well crap.

It sucks to post a really smart reply then have it not show up as a reply but as a new post.

I'm a loser.
