Friday morning 'WTF is going on?' thread

Submitted by artds on
So apparently Tony Sparano continues to swim with the Dolphins rather than sleep with the fishes (although if this week has taught us anything, it's that the sports media is just as clueless and in the dark as the rest of us).

But if the latest reports are accurate (which you should doubt), then it's starting to look like Harbaugh may be content where he is and may have just been using his newfound status as the hottest coach in America to get a bigger payday out of Stanford.

I live in Columbus, sadly, and this morning on my drive to work, I noticed a relatively large osu magnet on the back of a car in the lane next to me, then I noticed that the same car also had a similarly large MSU magnet on it, then I noticed that the car had Michigan license plates.

I expect Ohio cars to bear osu magnets, and I understand if someone from Michigan supports MSU, but for someone from Michigan to support both MSU and osu (and given the state of our beloved program); that blew my lid.

I drove next to the guy started honking my horn and flicking him off. I felt a little immature at first, then I felt rage, then I was a little embarrased that he would see me and I would look like a nutcase jerk, then in the rush of traffic he didn't see me and I felt better about just flicking him off.

I know lots of people in Ohio that root for Michigan, but I have never known anyone from Michigan to root for osu.

Traitor.

Happy Friday everyone!

Oh yeah, DB, stop letting Carr run your department, don't listen to MSC's issues with Harbaugh, and go fucking get Harbaugh!

I think you were justified in how you reacted. "Brag tags" are an invitation to honk in agreement or disagreement.

That said, what would be the appropriate response if the guy had, in addition to the OSU and MSU sticker, a Notre Dame sticker? Could there be any worse enemy to the Michigan program than that guy? Would a Michigan fan be justified in side-swiping the guy and putting him into the median, GTA style?

Love how you listed seven straight losses in RR's resume. Truth is, psychologically anyway, the streak and even The Horror blended in for a lot of people and they put all the blame on him. Maybe those events were just evidence that the ship was sinking long before he got here and the other items on your list really weren't on him.

Give it a rest. We're sorry that it's awkward with your username and all. But this decision was DB's, and it was as much about results on the field, cultural fit, and brand damage as it was about impatience. You (and almost all of us, really) have no idea what went on behind closed doors in Tuesday's meeting. For all we know, DB gave RR an opportunity to stay, and RR refused to cut loose his D-coach buddies.

What's done is done. Sniping "I told you so!" from the sidelines -- before the new coach is even hired -- is mildly annoying.

is not aided by people keeping their feelings inside themselves. It's aided by people incessantly bitching about what has happened until they can accept that it has happened and understanding there's no way to change it. In fact, if Michigan's team experiences a large volume of transfers and/or has a mediocre record next year, that may only serve to re-surface the grief people feel for the program right now, so expect more bitching like this if the new coach wants to rebuild the program to suit his own style. Thus, he is "dealing with it" in the best way possible. RichRodFollower, do not stop by all means.

And "provide something actually useful to the conversation"? Like what, more meaningless speculation as to whom Dave Brandon will hire or which/how many players will transfer from the program? Yeah, I can see your point; that's SOOO meaningful.

There's a difference between expressing grief and the "I told you so" attitude the other poster showed. I was trying to sugarcoat it but since that apparently get across, I'll make it simpler. That "I told you so" attitude makes him a dick. That better?

APE Report/No work will get done in my office today.

They are speculating as much as us, JH to UM/Stan plus the Miami interview being a pot sweetener to AA. They also are throwing around John Harbaugh now and some of his staff if they lose to KC this weekend. I guess I'm doing the APE report again.

John Harbaugh staff.(Cam Cameron/Andy Moeller) brian would shit if Moller came back.

Sources are saying Bo Pelini.

-Has interst

-Unhappy with leadership at Nebraska

I would Love this move it would piss off our new rival and our arch enemy. Perhaps this is what D.B. was talking about getting defensive.

Talked about the B.H. and his Oregon O statement that Brian had on the front page and what a bad statement it was.

Forgive grammar/spelling I'm trying to shit this out as quick as possible.

that isn't being discussed is the one where JH decides to come to Michigan but then bolts for the NFL after our whiney, entitled fan base starts giving him grief after a couple of subpar seasons....... Would this be 5 years down the road? 10 years? Maybe it will never happen, but it will always be an option for him, and it will always be in the back of his mind.

I wish I could hate you for being so negative but I can't help feel the same way, deep down in the depths of my gut. Its probably just because I don't like Harbaugh but I just feel all kinds of bad karma floating around the program right now. Even though they just did the same thing 3 years ago, I think its time to start fresh and try the experiment again, going in knowing the pitfalls that come from doing so.

Like the reality that the defense was historically bad and got worse from year to year, or the reality that the "exciting" offense got curb stomped by any defense with a pulse, or the reality that the team got destroyed against Mississippi State.

You're right those realities were painful and there really was no definable sign of progress to make anyone think those realities were going to change in the near future. I think RR is a good person and I wanted him to succeed, but he didn't and it's better to acknowledge it and move on.

DB isn't helping matters by having a "unique" coach searching process that is confusing and frustrating everyone, but in the end this is the move that had to happen.

RR is gone. I'm not making a case for his return, nor was I hoping to revive a pointless debate.

The comment is regarding our fan base. They publicly turned on RR. They publicly turned on Carr. There will be a point, whether it's in the first couple of years or sometime down the road, where fans will publicly bemoan Harbaugh's coaching.

I'm not as confident as others are that he will stay loyal to Michigan, considering his past comments, and considering that he is apparently at least as interested in going to the NFL as he is in taking over at Michigan, in a time where people are basically begging him to come to Ann Arbor. The NFL offers aren't going to go away, and if he isn't feeling the love, it wouldn't surprise me if he took one.

In my wish list, JH doesn't make the top 3.

1. We know that Stephen Ross flew to California, we don't know who was on the plane. The meeting had a media blackout.

2. Stanford and Jim Harbough state no comment on when asked if Michigan has asked for permission to speak with Harbaugh.

3. This was the biggest clue. Jim Harbaugh goes to Stanford President for his best offer. Well don't we kind of know that this was not for a competing salary with the NFL. I would have to think that another college is involved in this decision.

As we all know the media blows everything out of proportion and spread gossip worse than mgoblog or any other source out there.

I believe that Jim Harbaught has been and is still in the running for Michigan and it is just being kept quiet.

Maybe just WISHING ALOT !!!!!!!

We know his heart is Michigan Football and the NFL, split 50/50 maybe even 60/40. If he doesn't go to the NFL I really believe he coming Home to Michigan.

The only thing that is really going on is that no one knows anything for sure so it is all speculation.

Seriously are the Dolphin's going to offer 8 mil yesterday and have the offer off the table by morning. I really believe that what is going on is negotiations with the U of M at the present time and we will se him on the sidelines this fall.

Yeah like I posted somewhere on this thread, I think DB is keeping this as quiet as possible just like he did with RR. I believe it is more beneficial right now to keep quiet so that it is easier to communicate with everyone he is looking at hiring as HC. A decision will be made, but it may take longer than we want it to. I just hope JH comes to Michigan so that we can move on.

But I think we're still in it. NONE of these rumors have come from Harbaugh's camp or DB, who have been VERY quiet throughout this process...Meaning, these rumors don't mean shit and these media outlets are running with anything cause this is the biggest story out there!

I have been arguing with 2 friends all week and fighting the urge to punch one after receiving "See, I told you so...He signed with the 49ers/Dolphins/going to NFL" email 10 times per day.

I'm sure none of us know shit, especially the media. The thing that catches my eye is how extremely quiet things have been between UM & Harbaugh camp with a lot of false noise related to every other situation. Also, you KNOW Steve Ross put in a good word to Jimbo, he's highly vested in the UM football program and has the freakin business school named after him. I'm hoping he said he'll make it rain for JH if he comes home!

Ross had already said he wasn't going to pursue Harbaugh for the Miami position. It makes me wonder what they had to talk about. I hope it went down like this:
Ross: I know you can make more money in the NFL than you can in college.
Harbaugh: Yes
Ross: Look around for the highest offer and whatever it is I will make sure it is matched by Michigan. Sound good?
Harbaugh: Yes
Ross: God bless you son, your a Michigan man through and through.
Harbaugh: Yes

Even if Jim has a change of heart I'm not sure I want him to come, because then we'll be likely facing this same scenario AGAIN in 3 yrs....or whenever his itch for the NFL gets to scratching. I can FULLY understand why Jim would not want the job. The pressure that is going to be on the man succeeding RR is going to be VERY INTENSE. Not that JH is afraid of pressure, but why put yourself in it when you have so many other more comfortable & promising scenarios to choose from. Let's face it fellas Michigan is not able draw players it used to draw.
