OT: UM Early Admissions Decisions
I just thought I should share some good news with the rest of the MGoCommunity, a lot of negativity has been going on lately, but today I was given the opportunity to attend the University of Michigan in the form of an acceptance e-mail. It has always been my dream to attend UM, and once it became painfully apparent I would not be the next Braylon Edwards, I went for the more academic route, and it's great that I can finally realize that dream. 'Tis the season for a lot of great news coming to high school seniors.
Go Blue!
P.S. No, I cannot kick field goals either, sorry.

It's amazing what has changed in the last 40 years. I lived in Markley during my freshman and soph years back from '71 through '73, and it was definitely one of the least popular and least hip places to live on the entire campus.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:21 PM ^
they have Markley as all freshmen dorm. The newer dorms would be reserved for upperclassmen(and occasionaly freshmen).
If Markley weren't an all-freshman dorm, I wouldn't want to live there.
December 16th, 2010 at 6:07 PM ^
I lived in Markley my freshman year and didn't care much for it. Perhaps the most remote dorm on CC and an absolute eyesore. Sure it beat living on North Campus at Bursley, but I couldn't help feeling jealous of friends who lived in West Quad or South Quad.
To the OP, congrats on the big news. I co-sign what others have said about making the most of your time at Michigan. Stay there as long as possible. While you'll celebrate bigger moments in your life after college, nothing beats those college years.
December 16th, 2010 at 7:05 PM ^
Just be thankful you didn't have to live at Fletcher. While awesome on game days, sucks the rest of the time.
December 16th, 2010 at 8:00 PM ^
Lived in west quad both freshman and sophomore years and loved every minute. Perfect location and being able to go eat at the union late at night without going outside was great. Congrtats to white tiger on being welcomed to this great institution.
December 16th, 2010 at 8:32 PM ^
I lived in Couzens in 78 & 79 and then moved into the Sigma Chi house for 80 & 81. The Sig house locaion was fantastic, next to the Student Union, across from the diag and right between South and West quads. We used to fire bottle rockets at the dorms>>>>>

I lived in Bursley freshman year, even though I wasn't an engineer.
Saying that Bursley isn't bad except for having to take the bus everywhere is kinda like saying the handoff went fine, Dude's car just got a little dinged up.
Avoid Bursley like the plague, unless you really want to play Counter-Strike with your hallmates all night (NTTAWWT)
I think South Quad and West Quad are the best dorms to end up in. Markley's got some tiny-ass rooms and some long walks to campus, though this is balanced out somewhat by the degree of raucosity.
December 17th, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
Markley is the best! On the form that they make you fill out I wrote.
1. Markley
2. Markley
3. Markley
But buy a good warm pair of boots the hike is a pain. Also I kept a car freshman year by parking it in the hospital and only taking it out at nights when there wasn't a gate. Genius.
December 16th, 2010 at 4:59 PM ^
And make sure you don't get the words "quad" and "campus" mixed up in your request, especially if you're not an engineer, art student, or music student.
December 16th, 2010 at 4:55 PM ^
Congratulations on getting into the college of your choice. I hope you soon realize that the hard work has only begun; college is an opportunity for success, not an end in and of itself.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:00 PM ^
I sense some jealousy coming from this post. Maybe someone didn't have the grades to make it to a school they wanted to go to and had to settle for a lesser academic institution. Maybe one slightly south of the one they wanted. No? Just checking.

We'd all be so lucky if all OSU fans were as classy as NABF
December 16th, 2010 at 5:20 PM ^
I feel like you're being sarcastic, but you're still being a dick.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:27 PM ^
I was but I apolgize. It is about the young man's accomplishments and not our rivalry. Congrats white Tiger.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:38 PM ^
Actually, I didn't go where I wanted (and no, it wasn't Michigan). On the other hand, I did graduate from my second choice (The College of William and Mary), which is certainly a fine and upright academic institution.
December 16th, 2010 at 9:09 PM ^
I'm applying there (William and Mary) and it's tied for my first choice with Michigan. I loved the campus when I visited last fall.
December 16th, 2010 at 10:37 PM ^
It's a fantastic school and I would highly recommend it. It lacks some of the graduate technical stuff you'll find at michigan, but if you're going into business, law, politics, or public service then it's a great place. Also, it has surprisingly strong programs in chemistry and biology (considering that it has very little by way of graduate programs in those fields). Lots of doctors come out of W&M.

December 16th, 2010 at 10:38 PM ^
You may ask.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:23 PM ^
OSU fans like you make the rivalry so great, thank you so much, sir.
December 16th, 2010 at 4:56 PM ^
Congrats! I'm applying to B-Schools now and am anxiously awaiting Ross's decision on the 15th of January. Enjoy your time at Michigan!
December 16th, 2010 at 5:09 PM ^
Good luck!
December 16th, 2010 at 5:15 PM ^
Good luck man!

December 16th, 2010 at 5:20 PM ^
Well again, best of luck and thanks for your service!
December 16th, 2010 at 5:21 PM ^
You'll somewhat be following in my father's footsteps . . . active duty Army reserves, Michigan MBA in the evening session, 20 years active duty, retiring with full pension as a Brigadier General.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:37 PM ^
That's a hell of a career. I'm impressed with folks that can finish an MBA (or any degree) while working full-time. It really shows a lot about their character.
December 17th, 2010 at 11:45 PM ^
I have had some amazing students in the evening program, I'm always amazing by what they're able to accomplish at the end of a long day. The military personnel I've had in my class have always been dedicated students.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:42 PM ^
Good luck on the apps! Last year I was right where you are now and ended up going to UT. I'm currently on my 5 week break which I'm thoroughly enjoying so far.
Football was a big part of your school selection I see...
December 18th, 2010 at 3:25 PM ^
There were a lot of factors, but cost of living with a family is a huge one for me, which makes the West Coast and the Northeast poor choices--although I did throw an App at Harvard. Outside of those two areas, you've basically got 8-10 good choices and two great ones (Michigan and Texas).
That said, I didn't go to a big school for undergrad, and I do want the experience.
Edit: Just got into McCombs on Friday, Wolverhorn. I'll be joining you in Austin if Ross doesn't love me enough. Hopefully my intro essay detailing my exploits at MGoBlog is a winner there.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:55 PM ^
Best of luck, and thank you for serving our country!
December 16th, 2010 at 9:35 PM ^
Good luck from the RSB marketing faculty (well at least from one of us)!
December 16th, 2010 at 4:57 PM ^
Congrats. If you need alcohol give Boutrous a call he'll be happy to help you out in your first couple years. Nah im jk live it up.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:59 PM ^
If he needs alcohol he should
1. get a 3X5 card
2. draw a stick figure on it
3. write your name followed by "Date of Birth 9/20/1989"
4. Go to campus corner
5. Buy alcohol
December 16th, 2010 at 6:06 PM ^
Even they know a driver's license photo isn't supposed to be a full-body pic.
Replace step 2 with: draw a circle with two dots for eyes, a line for a smile/frown/emotionless stare, and some squiggly lines for hair (which can be done in crayon if you want to get fancy and go full color)
Then enjoy your Zima's, kids. You've earned them.
December 16th, 2010 at 6:20 PM ^
zima's are no more....
December 16th, 2010 at 6:52 PM ^
Does this sadden you?
December 16th, 2010 at 7:16 PM ^
yea... both me and keanu
December 16th, 2010 at 4:58 PM ^
You just opened a huge door for yourself my friend.
December 16th, 2010 at 4:59 PM ^
Get Hockey season tickets in addition to football (and basketball). You will find Yost to be a much more 'entertaining' place to watch Michigan sports.
What do you plan on majoring in? Regardless, good work, lad.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:22 PM ^
I could kick myself for not getting hockey season tickets.
December 16th, 2010 at 4:59 PM ^
Congrats man. Enjoy it.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:02 PM ^
You may not be able to kick field goals now, but there's plenty of time to learn!
Congratulations!
December 16th, 2010 at 5:01 PM ^
Congratulations. My four years in Ann Arbor were the finest of my life to date. Do not take one day for granted. Explore everything. Try anything. Before you know it, your time will be up and you will be forced to remember longingly the great days you spent there. Enjoy it.
Go Blue!
December 16th, 2010 at 5:04 PM ^
Enjoy it.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:07 PM ^
I'll give you the same advise I'll give my daughters in 14 and 17 years:
Remember that going to college is half about going to school and getting an education, and half about becoming an adult.
And drinking too much doesn't help either of those. Trust me on this one.
Party hard when you get to college - but party smart.
December 16th, 2010 at 5:44 PM ^
tell your parents you drink, cause we all do ....
the trick is not to let them know how much you drink
college is the one time you can binge drink and it is considered socially acceptable from your peers .... if you want, enjoy it
also, it doesnt have to hurt your studies, in my expirence the maryjane does more damage to those, i know many students who rage hard and rock sick grades
either way, congrats and enjoy it, i wish i wasnt a jr already, it is seriously the greatest place to be in the world
December 16th, 2010 at 5:57 PM ^
College is the time to practice and build your tolerance in an environment with few lasting consequences (unless you die or something, in which case you should probably cut back) and a permissive social environment.
The first time you drink 9 Four Lokos you are probably going to urinate into a potted plant and vomit on someone standing close by (and worst of all you will have to stay awake to listen to everybody complain about it rather than just passing out from alcohol alone). Would you rather do that at some house party where nobody knows who you are or maybe in a classroom with blind grading come exam time? Or would you rather barf on your boss at the company Christmas party a few years later and get fired and have to live off queso dip and unemployment checks for a few months because you wasted your time in college by studying?
December 16th, 2010 at 6:17 PM ^
Who the hell owns a potted plant?
