OT: UM Early Admissions Decisions

Submitted by the_white_tiger on

I just thought I should share some good news with the rest of the MGoCommunity, a lot of negativity has been going on lately, but today I was given the opportunity to attend the University of Michigan in the form of an acceptance e-mail. It has always been my dream to attend UM, and once it became painfully apparent I would not be the next Braylon Edwards, I went for the more academic route, and it's great that I can finally realize that dream. 'Tis the season for a lot of great news coming to high school seniors.

Go Blue!

P.S. No, I cannot kick field goals either, sorry.

"... you are probably going to urinate into a potted plant and vomit on someone standing close by ..."

Ha -- I took care of that in 9th grade after the state swim meet. Left an impression on me, let me tell you ...

I remember scheduling an orientation for mid July since my high school in California didnt finish until mid June. I avoided the early classes but had Calc 115 from 3:30-5:30. There arent many things more depressing than walking to Couzens from Dennison at 5:30pm in December. I also had random 3 hour blocks in the middle of the day with no class.

Assuming you live within 2 hours of Ann Arbor, select the earliest possible orientation!

Haha I remember my freshman year schedule. It was awful - a few 8 am starts, a few days with huge gaps between classes - I didn't know what I was doing.

Compare that with my 2nd semester senior year where I took 12 credits (3 online - <3 EDUC 362), don't think I started before 10 am and didn't finish any later than 2 pm with no Friday classes. Live and learn.

I worked at the front desk for the orientation for the past two years. I would highly recommend on getting the early orientation asap for scheduling purposes. I didn't schedule for an early orientation because of my obligations with my baseball team(has state title aspirations) which sucks.

Congrats and welcome to the family! We need more passionate students like you!

Live it up and have no regrets. It'll be the best 4 years of your life!

PS... Markley is the dorm you want. 4th Reeves baby!

Stockwell was ladies-only until it reopened after renovations (in '09?). Staying over was a little weird, mostly thanks to the mini-walk of shame you had to undertake every time you walked down to the only men's bathroom on the first floor.

Not an issue anymore, but it used to make for an interesting experience nonetheless.

PS - For a real challenge, try staying over in the conservative, Stepford-esque Martha Cook - strict no males after midnight policy. If the RA came by, you'd have to Anne Frank-it in the closet or wherever.

One warning on senioritis and throwing away your books the next 4 months:

Unless I am mistaken, your admission is conditional. Should you really tank your last Semester, Michigan reserves the right to pull your admission. I know of one 20 year old who had his admission to Univ. of Illinois pulled for this very reason.

The fun you will have, the people you will be surrounded by, the experience you will gain!

Ahh, to return to the days of being a South Quad resident advisor in 1979-1981 when I had no money but no bills and no responsibilities either!

Good Luck and keep us posted on how things go! Inquiring MGoBloggers will want to know!

About North Campus:

It's not a death sentence... just means you'll have a great excuse for sleepovers on Central. But don't sign up for just because you're an engineer/music major/whatever... you'll probably only have one class there per semester. Yay prereqs!

And Markley's fun and all but you'll end up wanting to take the bus from there once it gets cold anyway.

...it will be the best four years of your life and will join an alumni base that stretches across the world.

And you've got all Spring to learn how to kick - don't worry

On all the commentary from people saying "do it in five years, not four", here's an analogy to keep in mind for the OP:

Attending college is like dating a stripper. You know what you're getting yourself into - you know the pluses (tons) and the minuses (finals / pure female insanity). You know in the end, it's a good thing. But you know you can only let it go on for so long.

Stick around for that fifth year, and most of your buddies are gone. It's not the same. It cheapens the experience. And barring a change in majors, your GPA isn't likely to be so great (I don't know of many fifth years that had a great one). Thus, your liklihood of landing a sweet job is reduced.

Stick with that stripper for too long (say 5 months instead of 4, keeping with the 5/4 montra), and things start to get weird. People start to talk, family members become concerned. And you start to look like a fool to your friends because she's clearly playing you and not vice-versa.

Yes I have dated a stripper.

Congrats! Enjoy it while you can, but view it as a stepping stone to even greater moments in your life. Get your seats for 2010-2011 in the Big House and make sure to keep them warm all four years.

depends on when you applied. that's huge. my friend got in with a 25 on his ACT, but he applied the first possible day. i applied in late october, and heard back before him, but we both got in. but i still like to make fun of him for that.

but you are a Catholic League guy right? (i am too). keep the faith. if it's meant to be, it'll happen.
