OT - Michigan Gear You'd Like to See Again

Submitted by Black Socks on

What Michigan gear would you like to see made again?  I'm itching for some M gear but don't like much of what is offered.

1. I miss the "narrow" block M hats that were sold back in the late nineties.  IMO they had a classier appearance than the current ones.  The retro Bo hat had too flat a bill.

2. Can we get some sweet Dri Fit gear?  A small block M with minimal Adidas logos would be sweet too.

3. Let's go back to the block M on the shoulders of our away Jerseys.  That was the best one.  Looks much better than the current.

What about you?

Back when Nike did the gear, they did a maize t shirt with THE VICTORS in the Princeton font. Adidas seems to prefer HAIL. Bring back THE VICTORS on our shirts.

They absolutely need to birng those unis back and keep them for good.  Too bad all college hoops teams now have HUGE shorts.

That photo is on the cover of Mitch Albom's "Fab Five" (I highly recommend it.  At the time I was reading it about 2 years ago, I took a trip to the mall to buy some sneaks.  Lo and behold, Nike had brought back those very kicks our boys are wearing in that photo.  Of course, I bought a pair.  They look much cooler on the Fab 5 than they do on me, but still a very cool item of Michigan gear.

While I'm at it, they need to bring back anything Nike.

I still have my yellow (er, maize) basketball shorts from around 1997.  Can't find a good picture, but traylor is wearing them below, with the big block M on the sides, similar to the above, but without the white trim everywhere.  We always wished they'd sell the white ones, but only blue/maize were available.

Also, in the course of searching for a pic of these shorts, I came across the roster of our 1998-99 team.  Wow, talk about a dearth of talent!  Nothing against any of the other guys, but Louis Bullock was the only Big Ten caliber player on that roster.

Yeah, already talked about but the skinny Block M hat of Bo.

How badass would it be if Rich Rod busted that bad boy out for next year?  Maybe get Denard some Desmond-esque elbow pads?

But the Script "Michigan" Maize tournament hockey jerseys.

I like the current "Rangers" style, I own the Maize Block M... but I love these script Michigan ones

(rangers style)

I do indeed have a Brendan jersey, maize-- but the minimal Nike blue thin stripes with the white inside edition, not the script dazzle.  Still relatively sweet though, if I do say so.

Really? I have had one like this, by this company, for 7 years, and it still looks great- no chipping or anything. I got it at Ulrich's.

Okay, wow, I just looked for 10 minutes and can't find it online. Well, stainless steel (I think) with maize and blue paint/coating. I think they still sell them there, in Ann Arbor.

Two things I sincerely miss from my college days ('96-2000):

Steve and Barry's had awesome and cheap simple t-shirts (just "MICHIGAN"). No logos and cool colors (faded maize, faded green, red, etc).

I have a Columbia long sleeve shirt with "University of Michigan" and the university seal in an awesome faded olive color with white lettering. I think I bought it at Ulrichs.

I hate adidas/nike logos and although I love my blue with maize lettering shirt, I'm not a guy who would wear a primarily maize shirt. I love the faded/retro look, and haven't been able to find these types of simple shirts anywhere, even in Ann Arbor. I would be forever indebted to anyone who can help me replace my old ones (ripped and with pit stains, though I still wear them occassionally because I love them so much).
