rich rod comments at bust!

Submitted by Brandon_L on
coach rod said choked up at the banquet tonight "our time is coming and in a big way". The teams going to rally around their coach! "we will let people jump on the bandwagon. they may not get a front seat" he also said he is "honored to be hc of michigan i hope you all realize i trully want to be a michigan man" rich showed a lot of emotion and the players looked ready to play a game tonight.

oddly curious of why the JH crowd hasn't joined this thread yet. Usually every thread is littered with trashy comments, emo fans, and anti-thermonuclear comments.

I have been negged bombed because I dare disagree with people who think he should stay. That is pathetic.

If I were calling RR names, it would be understandable. But simple disagreement over the direction of the program  should not be cause for negging someone.

Im not sure what you want them to say?  I mean the coach made some emotional comments at the team banquet and people are acting like he just took a bullet for their child. It really has nothing to do with JH.

And I pray for RR's success.  I really want him and the team to succeed, I really do.  But this whole situation is becoming untenable.  The non-answers from DB, the team's record, the freshmen starters...he might be a great coach, but time has run out for him at UM.

Sorry to be so pessimistic, but when I read the phrase "I really want to be a Michigan Man, I really do" from RR my gut feeling goes Game Over, Man.

Did he really say that he wants to be a Michigan man, or was that just a poor paraphrase? Not that I really believe in the whole "Michigan man" meme, but it seems to me that being a Michigan man is something you are, or are not. "Do, or do not. There is no try."

Hopefully this is a signature moment for Coach Rod, Dave Brandon realizes it and gives him another year tomorrow, and then Dee Hart stays Blue. No matter what, I will always consider  Coach Rod a Michigan Man.

I just read my favorite comment from the bust. Jon Bills (the senior who broke his neck in the car accident earlier this year) said this (from the liveblog on MVictors: Bills - Michigan players he hadn't even met yet visited him in the hospital. Said Rich Rod visited him just about EVERY DAY

Brashness has certainly never been something Rodriguez lacks.

As for the big things in store, if we draw Missouri in the bowl game, he could really "show me."

Our time is coming in a "big way". Maybe he means we'll finally only lose to a top Big Ten opponent by 10 points!!! OMG can't wait for next season!!!!! 8-4 with 2 of those losses being AT LEAST SOMEWHAT competitive baby!!!! Michigan football...back on top!!!

I wouldn't expect him to change his mind just from tonight's banquet.  I'm just pissed that the majority of RR haters don't know who he really is as a person (not saying that I do) and think he is scum of the earth and not a Michigan man.  Most people just believe all the negative things they read about him and don't see all of the good things that he does.

I honestly believe that he's gone.  I hate like hell to say that, but I don't see any reason for DB to let this string out for a month if he was bringing him back.  I think he wants Michigan players to be able to practice and play for they're coach in the bowl game because they deserve that and the same with Stanford's kids.

I'm not a RR "hater".  But I am critical of the way he has run things and how the team has performed under him.  That being said, I was high on him when he was hired, and do really think he is a good person.  I think he is a little over his head (my personal opinion, don't kill me for it).  I think you're too quick to just categorize anyone that doesn't think he has done an acceptable job as head football coach into the "think(s) he is scum of the earth and not a Michigan man" crowd.  I think he is a solid guy and I feel bad for him honestly.  If he does get another year I truly hope he succeeds.

is at Michigan because he wanted to be there.  Martin did not approach him.  He approached Martin.

I was excited when the decision to hire him was made.  I'm still excited now.  Here's to hoping RR is our coach in 2011 and for years to come.

I don't mean that EVERY fan that is critical of him is a "hater" or thinks he's "scum of the earth", but there are MANY out there that do.  On talk radio, at my job, tweets from former players, media, within the program, ect... a lot of people just flat out hate him.

Well I obviously have no inside info or anything, but from what has been said on here before, there sure sounded like there were people within the program that didn't like him and his coaching style when he was brought in.

That game, which we could EASILY have quit and gone home with a high-scoring loss, was a major statement FORWARD for this program. Forget that we were "supposed" to win the game. The team, O and D, stuck it out together and played hard for each other AND the coaching staff. Denard was out, Tate fumbled his first play, and yet we rallied and won!

I see NO ISSUE with being a huge Jim Harbaugh fan AND pulling for RichRod to win at UM.

My senior year at UM, Jim Harbaugh hit John Kolesar for that beautiful 77-yd TD pass to clinch the win vs. OSU. Will always remember the guy fondly for that game.

All in for Michigan!!!!!!!

Would hiring Harbaugh been an attractive choice two or three years ago when Stanford had a losing record?  It takes time to turn programs around especially when you change the offense so dramatically. People have to realize that hiring a coach that has a 11-1 record now doesn't necessarily mean the next year will have the same result. There is a process.

SalvatoreQuattro

I understand the process regarding the offense. That makes sense. But th game of football is split into three sections.UM is substandard in two of them after three years. Overall progress is minimal or non-existent on defense.

Rich Rodriguez' biggest mistake was not doing an Urban Meyer and finding a Charlie Strong-tyope DC and letting that guy have all the say on defense from the get go. I firmly believe that if he had done that 08' would have been a 6-6 team, the next year 7-5 or 8-4, and this year 9-3.  Defense can and does make that big of a difference.

I enjoy the offense immensely. I believe it can work in the Big Ten with some adjustments--some of which RR has already done. More I-form, could use TE's more, to name a few.I am confident tat RR would adjust this offense accordingly.

But that defense....good god. His downfall, if it should happen, will be because he fouled up the defense by some atrocious decisions. No process can fix those errors other than blowing up the whole defensive staff and doing what I said earlier. The thing Brandon has to ask is if this man(RR) can make the right choice?

This is Michigan

Per Rittenberg:

"I think we might be going in a different direction," Brandon said after master of ceremonies Frank Beckmann suggested the team was headed to Arizona to play a Big 12 team.

Maybe Brandon knows where UM might be playing.

Gator Bowl Please.

We get chances in life to do the right thing. Everyday we get those opportunities and too many times we don't appreciate those opportunities. Here's a guy who came here and has given alot of himself unselfishly and has been rewarded with ugliness. if you don't agree with him that's fine but disagree with him respectfully. Don't write some ugly 'expose' that is supposed to sell papers; don't sit there on national TV before a huge rivalry game and wear a tie with the other teams colors. Pack your passive aggresive bullshit up and bury it because if you don't hve the balls to deliver a message with respect then the message isn't worth delivering. This person might not be what this program needs but let's not shrink to the depths that lower programs aspire to. Let's maintain a unique Michigan perspective which sets us apart from the others. We come to Michigan because of its unique reputation and anything that diminishes that reputation should propel us to do the right thing.  A dialogue that disparages a persons reputation and character without foundation is an unworthy dialogue. Keep us better than Michigan State and Ohio State; keep us better than Alabama and Auburn; keep us better than USC and Stanford. We're a stellar university with outstanding academics and a reputation that is pristine. So take off your scarlet tie, look into the camera and give us a well founded opinion. If you can't do that your opinion isn't worth a shit..

Josh effin' Groban?  This is embraced on the site that regularly turns to the Smiths?

Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head
See, the sea wants to take me
The knife wants to slit me
Do you think you can help me ?

. . .And I know it's over - still I cling
I don't know where else I can go
Over and over and over and over
Over and over. . .
I know it's over
And it never really began

Our coach criied and played a Josh Grobin song at the football bust. He also quoted the Grobin song. Does anyone else see something wrong with that?
