MI vs. Syracuse Open Thread

Submitted by zxcvbn on

So the 3-0 Wolverines face their first test tonight as they take on the highly rated Orangemen of Syracuse. Syracuse has struggled their last two games, and the young Wolverines hope to catch some luck against a good Big East team.

The game is on HDNet also, so if you have an online stream, that would be helpful.

I would like to petition Brian to allow us to award 10 points each to you.   That is the coolest thing I've seen anybody do here in a while.

Kudos to you.  I'd buy you a beer or three if i could.

Under 8 Time out:  U of M shows a little 1-3-1 from man, which they've pretty much been in the first part of this first half.  Struggling a little on the defensive glass.  But doing great work on the offensive glass.

Stu has looked a little overmatched when handling the ball...  Vogrich hits a triple (he needs to stretch this zone!!)  Trailing 21-20

Whew, this offense sure has stagnated without Hardaway and Smotrycz in the game.  I dunno if having Douglass and Vogrich in at the same time is the greatest plan, but at least they can possibly bail you out with a 3pt bomb like Vogrich did.  If anything, this second group has bought some great time in the game without giving up a run.  Defensively it's no surprise they switched to the 1-3-1 with the second unit.  It'll be interesting to see if they go back to man when the starters return.

Under 4 Time Out:

Stu hits a triple, a long 2, and a 3 from about half court, looks like he gained some confidence during the break!  Forcing a Time OUT by SYRACUSE!!!    30-25 BLUE!

I've ever seen.

I guess there are some positives that come along with HDNet's terrible under-the-basket cam (which they stay with way too long)

Stu off the bench is good for us. He/we struggled last year with him in the starting lineup. He's much more effective coming off the bench as a sniper/backup PG.

This is my first chance to watch the team.  Douglas looks confident.  Morgan looks very good.  I would like to see more touches for Hardaway.  I have been pleasantly surprised thus far.  Hopefully Michigan can continue to impress!  Go Blue!

At the half:  playing quite well, rebounding well, especially on the offensive end.  novak tried a 2 for 1 possessions and we had the ball with a chance to run the clock down, but smotrycz took an open triple.

Syracuse continues to try lobs into their bigs throughout the half.

31-29 lead at the half! and only 31% from behind the arc!

Ugh... not a great start to the half.  TO and Smotrycz and Morgan pick up their second fouls.  Need to slow the game back down.

33-33 with 17:43 to go.

First time seeing them in action (finally having cable access is nice), and I gotta say, I really don't like these adidas unis.  That little collar deal makes zero sense.  Along with the stripe on the jersey and shorts.

Get a big 'ole Fab Five-era M on the side of the shorts and call it a day.
