Is anyone else not looking forward to next weekends game against Illinois?

Submitted by bouje on
I think that we can definitely win it but what I'm not looking forward to is dealing with the fans, the booing, the "I knew RR would never work here I would have fired that hillbilly after the first year".

Honestly the last few games (MSU/Iowa) haven't even been fun for me because our fans are such pussies. We lose one game and everyone is on the coaches back. It's sickening.

This isn't to say that this team doesn't have problems. Best case scenario is to win 2 more games and WVU fire stew and to hire Casteel. As far as RRs job security I'm waiting until the end of the year to judge him and so should everyone else on this board and if you are going to the game just cheer on the team and use the old adage of "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all".

Also I'm selling 2 tickets for the Wisconsin game. Best offer wins. Here are the details (and yes I know about the ticket board I'm on my iPhone and I have an interview that weekend so that's why I'm not going to the game)

Section: 41 (NE Corner of the stadium)
Row: 83
Seats: 1&2

I'm looking forward to the game on Saturday because it is one of either 12 or 13 chances that I get to watch my favorite football team play per year. Does the losing hurt? Yes. Am I going to apprehensively stare at the calender while crossing off the days this week, dreading the looming and inevitable passage of time that brings us to yet another Saturday? No. As a Michigan football fan I can't wait until Saturday. I wish it were tomorrow.

I look forward to all Michigan football games no matter how bad it gets. That said, the Illini are a good squad and this is by no means a slam dunk win. In fact I'm having a difficult time finding any evidence to suggest we'll even be favored next Saturday...

was the "straw" that broke our back.  Roundtree gets caught at the 1 yard line (on replay) ... we score and the game is essentially over.   And then ... the infamous I - formation 4 straight times  -  NO SCORE and Illinois goes 99 yards on its way to scoring something like 70 points in the 2nd half.

I will take Denard, Tate or Devin in the shotgun with 5 wide receivers. This means we have our O line against 6 defenders total.  Anybody want to bet against any of our QB's not getting 1 yard in 4 tries .... anyone ?

Yeah  -  I'll be there (after getting back to the hotel at 2a last night in Happy Valley then a very long drive home) & yes I wll be rooting hard  -  cause these kids deserve that.  They are playing hard ...

My 2nd time to PSU.  The 8p start made for a long day of tailgating !!!  and the taunting increased through the day.  Had to stand in line for the portas In My Home BLUE Jersey ... right behind 3 very vocal PSU students.  They blew me shit all the way thru the line - but I kept up with them (cause I really don't hate PSU ... ND & OSU HELL Yeah).  When I finally came out of the porta these 3 guys were waiting for me to tell me good luck and how they knew where I was coming from.  Kinda ran into that most of the day !!!   And it was a hell of a party where we were !!!

I'm looking forward to it.  I live in Cleveland and tailgate with my brother (who lives in Michigan) and about 15 other guys I've become friends with over the years.  We'll eat, drink, cheer the team during the Victors Walk, talk ourselves into a victory, go into the stadim and watch what happens.  I'll yell my ass off, second guess some calls and get chills when the band plays.  After the game we'll go back to the tailgate, do a post-mortum on whatever happened, eat some more, drink some more and then go home.

Look forward to next week?  Hell freaking yes!

For me it can't get here soon enough.  There is always next week for the eternal optimist, of which I count myself as one.  Wouldn't surprise me to see a bounce back effort.

I'm looking forward to it despite Illinois holding Royster to 35 yards in a 33-13 win at Happy Valley 3 weeks ago. I guess I'm probably stupid.

It'll be my big 3-0 b-day weekend and I'm celebrating it by going to the football game with my dad and brothers on Saturday, and then doing the stadium tour on Sunday.

I honestly can't wait for the stadium tour, and just bought a new football with a T so I can practice throwing a touchdown and kicking a field goal. Hopefully RR will see me and give me a scholarship to the b-school Masters program.

With the excecption of UMASS, the bye week,  and Penn State I have been nervous for every Saturday the past two years.  I have never played football, but I watch a lot of other college football programs tackle better than UM does.

I am starting to believe that its not just inexperience on the part of our young defenders, I really think its a lack of confidence.

I agree with a previous poster somewhere that said a new defensive staff doesn't make our Secondary more experienced.  But I also agree that the DC should have some authority to hire his own assistants...

In short, I don't know what the answer is.  I don't think that its negligence on the part of the coaching staff and I'm tired of reading people who do seem to think that.

I will enjoy every game this year - after the sixth win...

Yes, I'm looking forward to the game.  I've gotten most of my bitching out of the way today and I'll believe a victory is coming.  If we win, it will be my biggest celebration of the year.  If we lose, I'll be ranting again.  Michigan football is pretty much my only hobby these days.  I love every game...even the games I end up hating.  I'll still be fan with or without RR but I think it will end up being without him.

On a side note, I've been reading the stuff on the beloved blog since the game ended last night.  It seems like the defensive guys are not where they are supposed to be way too much of the time.  Is that really due to youth?  It seems like youth would mean the players are doing exactly what the coaches tell them to do and not freelance.  So I'm in the camp of the defensive coaching is the main problem.  Of course, football is the one big sport I never played so I may be completely off base.

At the beginning of the season, I thought this game and Purdue would be locks.  Having watched Ron Zook make a mess out of the Florida program a few years ago, I looked at what has been happening at Illinois and thought we would see them quickly dive into the crapper without Juice Williams.  Somehow, the Fighting Zooks are playing very good football right now.  If Michigan can't fix the defense in one week, this game could get ugly.

If there was ever a time for a quantum leap on that side of the ball, it is now.  I haven't watched Illinois play enough to know their personnel, but after watching Michigan make Penn State's offense look like Oregon's, it would appear that Michigan is in trouble if Illinois has even half-decent personnel on offense.

On the bright side, the game is at home.  This would be a great time to start playing well enough to win again.

to the Illinois game.  I look forward to every Michigan game.

This will be our first test against a mobile QB this season.  Maybe, just maybe, we'll be better because our D practices against our own mobile QB's.  Then again, maybe I'm just sniffing glue.  I'm more worried about the matchup against Illinois' defense.  All that said, we'll probably win by 20.  Great analysis and logic, eh?

After Warren left and Woolfolk went down and I read the pre-season preview with a walk-on at one safety and a converted wr at the other, I saw lots of 6-6 and 7-5 predictions with a few 8-4's thrown in.  My reality for you guys is that Illinois provides another opportunity for our young defense to learn more and grow up, and that it ain't over 'till it's over!

Unlike most of you, I had to watch the game in Ohio surrounded by a bunch of OSU fans who root against Michigan while OSU rolls up 52 on the big ten patsy we don't get to play and that I have to remind them on occassion that "It is not my fault you could not get into business school at U-M!".......

I'll be there, driving for 6 hours to get there for kick-off and cheering for the guysin Maize and Blue to play hard, and supporting my team......No booing as long as the effort is there and the guys on the field and on the sidelines don't give up.....

About dealing with fans than potentially getting ass-raped by Illinois for the 3rd straight year. When losing doesn't frustrate you as much as fans....

There's always the hope that the defense could come with a good game and the offense will go crazy and we will win by 30 points.  However, IL is much better team than I thought they would be this season. It will be a tough game but I think we may be able to outscore them.  Though, like last year, I fear the pressure is building on this team to win that 6th game. I just hope the team goes out there and plays hard and have fun. Don't get too up tight.  I just hope everyone attending the game will give a standing ovation to this team. They need your support!

I am looking forward to the game and can't wait to see our offense put up some good hilights. Just watching Denard run makes life good. Plus expectations are low enough for this game that even if loose, the fire RR crowd won't be so loud.

As a fan of our team through the great 90s, to the dreary last decade, I always find myself pumped on a football Saturday.  Yet given the historically bad performance last week, the lingering voice of reason doesn't make me "look forward" to a potential repeat performance.  I am excited to cheer the team win or lose.  I am more interested to see how we respond, but last week if we're honest was sure deflating.

The reason you shouldn't be looking forward to the Illinois game is that UM is going to get beaten like a drum, especially on defense.  Scheelhasse, while young and prone to mistakes, can run the read option effectively and is a significant step up from Matt McGloin, who you may have noticed torched us last week.  Also, Mikel Leshore is the best running back we've faced all year.  Add to that an improved Illini defense and, sans a lucky day where we are gifted +2/+3 in TOM, we are going to lose.

Call me crazy, but the fans are the least of what I'm dreading come Saturday.
