Dang-my post was just deleted by mods-Woolfolk's ankle.

"Woolfolk's ankle 2010/2011-maybe it's just me, but does Troy seem to hobble off the field in nearly every game?  Last year he NEVER hobbled off the field during a game.

Maybe this is due to Barwis no longer training the men to eat raw meat.  Or likely this is due to Tony Gibson no longer coaching up the secondary."

:)

Excellent

Great read.  I'm more aware of the leadership on the field-something that can't be quantified in a chart.  I saw that leadership the last two weeks in Hoke, Borges, Mattison, and Denard on the field.  Yes Denard struggled early, and his nerves were reminiscient of MSU last year at home.  Except this year he brought the team back and played an excellent 4th quarter.  And our defense, despite giving up that TD drive in the end, kept us in the game with 3rd down stops and turnovers.

AND unlike MSU and other games-we're scoring TDs in the red zone!

"Any M Fan that's crying for

"Any M Fan that's crying for Gardner over Denard needs to rewatch the final 2 minutes of the (ND) game..."

left out the ND part-thx.

New Cast

Odoms had a different cast on yesterday, thus he played a leetle.  Vs. WMU Odoms had a cast like Troy Woolfolk this week covering some fingers.  Yesterday was just a forearm cast.

I assume the injury and the play of Gallons and Grady are keeping him off the field.  I'm so glad we have the next few weeks to heal up before our schedule gets tougher.

Hawthorne

I wonder if Hawthorne was injured last week vs. WMU?  My hunch is he's fully recovered from his ankle tweak during camp based on his performance.  Mattison had decent praise for him during camp.  I think he played his way well ahead of Morgan, Beyer, and Jones in this game.

When Gordon returns we have 4 good options at LB with Gordon, Hawthorne, Ryan, and Demens.

Nothing from Ireland! Or

Nothing from Ireland! Or South Bend!  Wolverine Beer actually is decent IMO.

Agree.  However not every

Agree.  However not every coach will run Denard for 1700 yds based on their playcalling.  Inherent in his carries last year was the stat he missed series in what, 10 games?

The issue I'm addressing is not TOP-it's turnovers.  This coaching staff wants to minimize Denard's turnovers AND his injuries by the plays they call.  Coaches are responsible for their playcalling and the inherent risk of each call.  Clearly playcalling is different from last year.  So as others have said we should account for turnovers in the chart.

Brian may brand Denard as a goat in this game, but I think Denard did nearly everything this staff asked of him.

irrelevant

You need to answer my question-last year Denard threw 18tds and 11ints plus some fumbles.

The fact is, whether you or I agree with it, the new coaches are emphasizing TOP and winning the turnover battle.  I find Brian's comparison to last year inconclusive if he doesn't add in a turnover measurement.  Thus his argument is weak and worthy of nuke socks for those that want to bemoan his attachment to the past.

What about turnovers?

Brian,

Where in the chart do you account for turnovers?  Please someone tell me the grade factors in turnovers??  The shift in philosophy is much more about time of possession and minimizing turnovers.  This must be accounted for when comparing this year to last.

Give credit where it's due...

I'm upbeat pre-reality this Saturday.  I'm calling 9 or 10 wins.  Why?  Your ratings of our stellar O-line, plus He16sman candidate Denard Robinson.  For the first time since Henne we have a returning starter at QB, with one of the best O lines in the Big 10.  If I'm right, our success will be due in large part to these 5 big men on the line.

They're suspending players and losing recruits to us...

This reads like a

This reads like a song...starts upbeat, sinks to a historic (I-AA) low, hope is on the horizon or yet failure crashes in to stay...or will it when #16 takes the field this Saturday.  Thanks for taking the time to walk us down memory lane, it was an enjoyable read.

Odoms Shock

Biggest surprise for me is Odoms on 3rd string.  Odoms caught a sweet touchdown vs. Miss St.  He lays the wood on blocks.  He catches the ball.  I have to wonder as well about injury stuff and I guess Gallon must have had an amazing camp.

Hard to see bright side though of a 3 year starter placed on 3rd string there.

Underrated

I do feel our team is underrated by prognosticators purely based on the quality of our OL (top 3 in Big 10 no?), and the fact they will be protecting a returning starter named Denard Robinson.

Mattison will bring the heat

but don't assume Mattison is in Hell.  I got Hawthorne starting from our DC's recent comments that they "may have found someone there" in Hawthorne.  Then Hawthorne injured his ankle.  So with additional Mattison hype and my hunch, I expect to see a lot of him vs. Notre Dame.

1st and 2nd teamers

Fitz and Omameh looked great on the run, definite first teamers.  Qwashington and Beyer also looked strong on the 2nd team pressuring Gardner in the end zone.  I love overanalyzing a 5 second clip.  7 more days and so much will be known!

Herron's past 2 years

So Herron is in now for an injured Demens. He switched LB positions? Anyone recall why Herron didn't see the field much last year compared to two years ago? I recall he got lots of camp hype in 09 for his speed, and played more in 09.

Well, if you haven't heard of

Well, if you haven't heard of him, let's hope he'll remain unknown to you and won't be a factor in Dallas, September 2012.

Great question

We have votes for 5 RBs in this thread!  Someone will have to step up.  We have quotes from both Fitz and Cox stating in the old regime they were hoping the coaches would trust them to play.  They each had reasons they didn't play.

I'm just glad Denard won't have to carry the load in the Red Zone.  Btw Cox, Shaw, Fitz, and Hopkins someone will rise up as the go to back when we need it.  It's the official no excuses year for these 4 backs.

Right

No, Magnus is right.  It was a nagging wrist injury that was supposedly to blame on a September fumble.  But go back and watch Minor's leaping TD run in September at home.

It's clear it was a minor nagging injury for Minor.

RR started McGuffie over Minor, and Sheridan over Threet that September.  Deal with it.

Not sure who gave you a +1

I gotta say it, take this comment and see if the Salvation Army wants to auction it off with any remainder RR clothing items.  RR worked hard, but he's gone.  He's the past.

We now have a OC who was undefeated in the SEC, an even more accomplished DC who won a NC at Florida, and a new HC who turned two programs around.

Welcome to the future.  Go Blue!

Remeber the SAT?

Rob Parker is blowing his own

Rob Parker is blowing his own horn now.  Did DB already speak?

Update: Kirk Herbie is the "sources" according to tigerbait.  Therefore, count on a presser tomorrow AM announcing Les is back.

I find this to be the most

I find this to be the most disappointing thing behind DBs timing.

curious ?

What are the facts on these plans?  I've never heard for sure why we assume DB is on one of these? I get the Dominos link, but do we know UM AD has a plane as well?

Ah didn't think of that

Strike one on Miles then.  He does seem much more open to the spread then Hoke though.  I guess Brian votes M integrity/character over the spread offense.

There's also those rumors of Carr not liking Miles.  It's also interesting to finally hear that Martin never did offer to Miles back in the day.

True, but...

I hear you.  But didn't people also say if RR had more wins these "spots" on his record wouldn't have accumulated such significance?  If Miles comes, and recruits and wins like I believe he can, I don't care about a "spotless" candidate.

The anxiety of the unknown is too much!

Just wake me up in 20 years when this guy is our head coach...

Rosenberg and the paper he

Rosenberg and the paper he works for mine as well be based out of Columbus (sorry to write that curse word on this family friendly site).

Remember when Herbie had breaking news on Miles?  Surely Dave Brandon has this thing figured out...

I blame myself for all this

I blame myself for all this CC talk.  After the Horror I walked around the Big House (vs. Oregon) with a sign that simply read, "CHANGE".

Agree with all the praise above

How great a final game did he have against Florida?  Those post routes were outstanding back in the day.  Great wr.

He is serious

Even though we just got blown out in a bowl game....and don't call me Shirley.

Is that you, DB?

Dave Brandon was once called "the big oak apple" by Bo himself.  DB has been on mgoblog under alias "oakapple" for 1173 points!

Only two things missing here...

1. A hockey rink in the middle of the Big House for the December special.
2. A more informative title like "Jim Harbaugh and Rich Rod like cake, but whose cake will this be in 2011?"

I applaud you

For applauding our coach, on this day.  Ballsy.

Yeah, I didn't graduate from UM by sneaking in...

I'm not questioning Brian's authority to write his own opinion on his own blog.  I am countering/questioning his opinion that we each can have our personalized hate week against whoever is aggravating us.  Whether you hate ignorant fans, poverty, the TSA, whatever, "hate week" and "the game" have a historical context that in my opinion is to be respected.

Wow. Really?

For a blog that asks that content include more than "ditto, I agree..." what is the objective proof that we are the most annoying?  We are the largest alumni base, yes.  Opinionated, sure.  Passionate, no doubt.  But "most annoying"?

I suppose if we were to peruse the blogs of powerhouse teams that over three years had 3, 5, and 7 wins, you would expect to see some annoying posts and dissension in the fanbase, right?

I guess this is the trendy thing to say about us given the past three years, but I don't buy it.

"Your hate week"?

Brian---um, the team, the team, the team.  The day that "hate week" turns into "your hate week" is troubling.  The Game is about the team. Hate week is about that team down south. Period.

Let's not mix our opinions with the truth of the greatest rivalry in sports.  I hope for a retraction of that comment.

Adjustments?

What exactly did we change on D in the 2nd half?  From your eyes, was it just youth missing tackles?  It's such chicken and egg question-but are we recruiting/positioning lighter, faster guys or are we wanting these young light players to be fast and able to stop 300lb lineman and 230+ RBs. It just seemed from my eyes there were no adjustments in players on the field to stop the run.

All signs point to another year

I agree with you, these interviews strongly lean to another year for RR.  I hear DB watches film with RR on Sundays.  I just hope next week, should we lose (which seems to be our trend against ranked Big10 teams), I hope the loss is more like last year and NOT like 2 years ago at O state.

Token slippery rock reference

Dave Brandon and his staff see the value of innovation and entertaining the crowd.  The Slippery Rock video and appearance on the field was outstanding.  Well played DB, great positive from the day.

I've been in the moderate camp since PSU

Agree with you all.  I've been in the moderate camp since the PSU loss.  I am fine with whatever DB decides.  It's interesting how many arguments can be made either way with RR.  Regardless, it's clear some form of change must happen.

Chances depend on what he decides...

If he sticks with his current commitment to Bama, it's a 0% chance.  If he meets Lloyd Brady, sees our hard edge D in person, talks with Fred Jackson, then signs a LOI with M, 100%.

Valiant effort

But I have followed M from Dreisbach, to Henne, to now.  One of the saddest moments in the Big House was hearing fans boo senior Henne for frosh Mallett.  The QB position will always be critiqued, especially by at least some of our critical thinking alumni.

Denard's first fumble

was NOT weather related.  The weather was just fine early in the game.

Maybe some humor will help you as a "loo-ser"

Bet the house...

M wins by two.  Book it.

Special thanks to...

Denard, Tate, Roy, Jr., Stonum, entire OL, Seth from the 35 (not 39), Shaw, and Hopkins for the 67 pts needed for victory!
