Sparty Hate Thread (Day 1)

Submitted by jsquigg on

Hopefully no one has started something similar, but this is the place for your Spartan hate mail.  Any stories about why you can't stand the green and white or their mascot or their ever changing tradition.

Half of my family (roughly) are Spartan fans.  I have no problem with any of my family regarding fandom.  The rivalry only gets as intense as teasing, plus I can't blame them since they live near Lansing and some have/are working for MSU.  Unfortunately almost all of the non-family MSU fans I know are the exact opposite.  It's gotten much worse since Dantonio came to town.  Before, MSU fans just rooted against Michigan.  Now they have a sense of entitlement.  It's gotten to the point where I can't wear my M gear (at least half of my wardrobe which I wear religiously, even when times have been down) without running into some sort of unprovoked conflict.

At least Buckeyes have their own state.  I'm sick of stupid arguments over our unethical coach, our quiet stadium, the fact that we only win because of our quarterback, etc.  I normally wouldn't promote harsh language at all (I don't judge), but I seriously hope the Wolverines beat the shit out of Sparty on Saturday.  Win by any means, but please Rich, don't miss out on any opportunities to run it up as classy as possible.

Please share your own Sparty hate stories below.

Similar to what you would do if your little brother was tugging at your pant leg.

Of course amongst my Blue friends and I can say I hate their stupid fucking mascot, their stadium blows, their helmets are among the worst in college football, and East Lansing is a shithole.

Irish, Spartans, Buckeyes, Gophers, Hoosiers and all sorts of Illini STANK, and I HATE 'EM.

Spartans with all that Big Ten Championship talk...I can't understand you, go back to your city BLUE POWER.

*Editor's Note - Clayton Bigsby Big Ten Edition realized he was a MSU grad. He has since resided in seclusion in the middle of the UP after divorcing his wife for being, quote, "A Spartan Lover."

Sparty ran out onto the dance floor in a Sparty tux about 11pm at the reception.  He danced, took pictures with the crowd, drank half empty glasses of champagne off the tables, got drunk, and tried to get the bride to go home with him.

Well... really just the first two of those things were true, but it still sucked having my buzz killed by seeing Sparty running around.

-"Walmart Wolverine"

-"You guys haven't beaten anyone good"

-"Wait til GREG JONES!!!!! hits Denard!!!!"

-Their extreme cockiness after a win (even if it's a game they were expected to win- like ND)

I could go on and on, but I'm making myself sick.

I can't comprehend how anyone could think "walmart wolverine" is in any way insulting or clever.  furthermore, I am aghast at how the person fails to reflect on how uncreative this dime store example of alliteration would make them appear.

SPARTY #1: Have you seen the picture of your defensive coordinator. It has a picture of him and it says "MICHIGAN DEFENSE.... they have none." I have that as my background on my laptop. :-) We own you

ME: Sure, our defense may be suspect, but we have Denard Robinson. It will be a good game, for sure, but I wouldn't recommend saying things like "We own you" when your record against us is 30-67 and 5 ties. That's a 29% win percentage. Knowledge is power.

SPARTY #1: Stop refering to the past. It is the present bro.

ME: So how do you own us in the present then? We haven't played yet. You are full of LOGIC FAIL.

SPARTY #2: Keep it classy, Michigan fans. Might as well just give shoelaces the heisman right now, just like Forcier last season.

SPARTY #1: Cuz "I Have A Dream" (MLK) And my dreams come true. ha "We are not the same, I am a Spartan"

ME: Nah, I wouldn't give him the Heisman right now. There's a lot of games left to play. But, I will say that no other QB in history has been able to do what he has done so far this season (two games with 200+ passing and 200+ rushing, both against BCS competition). He is on pace for 2000+ passing yards and 2000+ rushing yards. Forcier wasn't doing that last year, not even close. When a player is leading the nation in rushing, he's in the Heisman discussion. When that same player is passing for over 1000 yards over 5 games (assuming you count the 7 minutes he played vs. Bowling Green) with a 70% completion percentage, then you can't deny he is one of the best players in college football up to this point.

ME: @SPARTY #1: I don't even know what you're talking about anymore. I can only assume that quote was from 300 since they play clips from that movie after every play. How Martin Luther King Jr. plays into all this, I haven't the slightest idea.

SPARTY #1: Its a Spartan thing, you wouldnt understand.

ME: Well, hey, MLK was a rad dude and 300 was a good movie, so as long as it all makes sense to you, it's cool.

SPARTY #2: Offensive dominance over UMASS and Indiana is really impressive. Very few teams are able to put up good statistics against such powerhouse opponents. I don't really understand how they aren't ranked #1. After all, they are Michigan!

ME: Well, one of his best performances was against Notre Dame in South Bend: over 500 yards of offense. Additionally, I'm not saying Michigan should be #1, you are, but seeing as almost every team in the country plays easier out of conference schedules (MSU's being W. Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Northern Colorado, and ND) I think it is a decent measuring stick to judge one's performance. Whether the competition was weak or not, no one else in the country can do what Denard has been able to do against similar competition played. Michigan actually played two BCS level teams in Connecticut and Notre Dame, and after those games, Denard had more total offense alone than many FBS teams. Robinson currently leads the country in rushing by almost 200 yards and is 3rd in passing efficiency. It seems you are looking at it all through green colored lenses instead of actually recognizing what he has been able to accomplish from an objective standpoint.

SPARTY #2: I never once said anything about MSU. I forgot about Notre Dame. Powerhouse 3-loss Notre Dame who hasn't been nationally relevant for years. Good call.

At this point I just stopped posting as all reasonable discussion was clearly not going to happen.  I have now adopted a policy of ignoring everything said to me.  I'm sad it started this early in the week though.  *Sigh*

Lol, love the part how he says idk what you are even talking about anymore.. like you couldn't have explained it any easier..

I have a similar story for a friend from college..

He didn't go to MSU, he is just a raging MSU homer.  Every wk since the beginning of the season he updates his facebook status after MSU wins, but before he even mentions anything about MSU winning he puts "Michigan barely wins again, or Denard will break in half in a few games.."

Or better yet, this wk  he put how MSU completely rolled Wisconsin and more bs about michigan.

I didn't know that scoring a TD on 4th down with a minute left when you are up by a field goal is rolling any team..

It is my msu friends and only them who are so fuckin concerned with what michigan does wk in and wk out it's pathetic

i am really starting to hate the phrase tl;dr.  it's being way overused.  why don't you just say "i couldn't take the time to read your comment even though i came to this blog with the intention of reading something but only if it's a one sentence zinger"  yes this seems bitchy but this blog has stopped showing common courtesy towards one another which deters people from posting and makes everyone resentful of each other.

Here's the latest tweet from their AD: @MSUAD: MSU Blair White and UM Mike Hart both playing for Indy today. White 20 yards / Hart -4. I love this week.

What a piece of shit.

I took some family and friends to watch the game at BW3 and it started before either the UM or MSU games were over....

However, one of the best moments of the evening came when Wisconsin scored and one of my party cheered.  A loud MSU fan at the adjoining table glared at him and said: "Are you a Wisconsin fan (keep in mind my friend has a Michigan emblazoned shirt on)?"  My friend responds: "No, I just don't like State."  This led to Sparty fan returning to his scheduled program.

was behind me at a bar for the game on Sat. He was saying over and over again that Denard was just a running back playing the QB position. I took every oppertunity to turn around and say "that was a pretty good pass by a RB" every time we had a good pass play. These people don't understand that Denard is the complete package.

those poor wretches have been decimated by budget cuts while UM went from academic strength to strength these last ten years. They hang onto football because it's all they've got.

After the game, Michigan students return to classes at the world's 15th-best university. MSU students return to the worst one in the B10.

Year 1 in college football is 2008 according to many a State fan.

But try explaining that it is best to judge Rich fully in the 4th or 5th year, or that being 8-4 or 9-3, 2 out of every 5 years is unnacceptable to the U of M fan base.

I'd have better luck teaching my dog to use a rice steamer.

I hate it.

Today trumps yesterday or tomorrow in the world of smack talk.  We need to win so we can have today back.

How about that day counter the MSM and state fan spits out since Michigan won a football or  basketball game? If you tell me that you don't hate that crap, you all are either baked or lying through your teeth.
