OT: Rooting for Sparty this week?
Question: Are people in MGoBlogville rooting for Sparty this weekend?
My two-cents worth: Normally, I would probably cheer on Sparty against Wisconsin (Wisconsin fans are obnoxious) but I submit that a MSU loss tomorrow hurts Sparty to the point that they come into the Michigan game a bit deflated and flat. I'm not one to hope for Michigan's competition to come in at less than 100% but, well, I guess that's what I'm rooting for here. Not that I don't think Michigan can win next weekend - I'd just rather see Michigan come in with a leg up on the competition.

In all seriousness.....I always want them to lose.
October 1st, 2010 at 1:25 PM ^
Agreed. May the ghost of John L. Smith haunt them for all eternity.

It drives them MUCH crazier when you ignore them, as in "you clowns are the same mediocre self-imploding prison team you've always been, so why would we pay attention one way or the other?"
Get it? Their OBSESSION with beating Michigan and their joy-porn whenever Michigan loses to anyone goes completely unrequited. We are TOO BIG to even care!
October 1st, 2010 at 3:21 PM ^
I hope we cut them off at the legs next week, regardless.

cheer for Sparty?
I am cheering for Wisco and against ACL's in general in that game.
October 1st, 2010 at 2:12 PM ^
Really, cheering against ACLs? Classy.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
You might want to ease your way in around here broseph.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:19 PM ^
I am rooting for "SPARTY, NO!!!"
October 1st, 2010 at 12:19 PM ^
I never root for Sparty honestly, with the possible exception of Bowl season, when the overall conference strength is always questioned and judged.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:19 PM ^
On a variety of hands:
Hand 1 - I hope that they lose in some sort of humiliating fashion. I just can't get enough Sparty NOOO!
Hand 2 - I'm not exactly a big Wisconsin fan either, you know.
Hand 3 - Anything that helps us win against Sparty is good, so if they're flat, that'd be awesome.
Hand 4 - But you KNOW after we beat Indiana this week, everyone is going to say, "Well yeah, but they did that last year. We still don't know if they're better." If MSU loses to Wisky, then when we trounce THEM, people will still say we haven't shown anything.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
I like Hand 4. It leaves something for us to prove every week.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:56 PM ^
Michigan will always have something to prove this year. Then it's all about revenge!

This is the RichRod Revenge Tour.

I would much rather see Wisconsin lose than MSU lose. Wisconsin fans are rabid (moreso than Sparty fans) and I love to see their downtrodden faces when they lose. Also, a MSU win sets up an interesting matchup between undefeated teams (assuming Michigan wins). That said, I hope Sparty loses, and loses BIG!
October 1st, 2010 at 3:35 PM ^
Plus I almost want to be the one to burst the Spartan bubble. There is only one first lose and I want use to hand it to them.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:19 PM ^
My self respect is worth it.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:33 PM ^
with the creepy eyes post here.......
October 1st, 2010 at 12:37 PM ^
That looks like it may come dangerously close to Ann Arbor... maybe a slightly smaller one?
October 1st, 2010 at 12:20 PM ^
Nope. I can't stand hearing them talk. It doesn't matter about what. I just don't like their fans talking. The only way that they stop talking is if Michigan kills them, and they end up with a losing record. I hope they lose every game in conference.
October 1st, 2010 at 1:18 PM ^
Wisconsin or MSU? Seriously though, we all know MSU fans NEVER stop talking. Even if we beat them, they'll start talking about basketball season...
October 1st, 2010 at 12:21 PM ^
Rooting for Wisconsin to play their most physical game this year on both sides of the ball. Even if Sparty wins I'd like to see them forced to expend maximum energy in doing so. I'd also like Wisconsin to force MSU to show all their cards (every play in the book) so Michigan has plenty of film to study.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:24 PM ^
You don't know Dantonio, do you? That guy is just like the fans. He would sacrifice this game to beat Michigan in a heartbeat (uh...no pun intended).
I agree that that would be the best case scenario, but that is wishful thinking at this point.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:21 PM ^
It's a rivalry game, I highly doubt either team comes in deflated or flat coming off a win OR a loss.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
Hell no!!!
October 1st, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
You mentioned Michigan specifically by name four times, so this is not OT.
But no, not rooting for Sparty.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
After the last couple of years my hatred for them has surpassed the hatred I have for OSU and is equal to my disdain for Notre Dame.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:28 PM ^
Shhh,That is what they want to hear, they want to be our biggest rival instead of our little brother.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
No. Nope. Never.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:24 PM ^
Why? Why ever write a post with words like "Sparty" and "root". Where's Ben Stiller when we need him. No. Never.
October 1st, 2010 at 1:14 PM ^
My dear sir, the reason to write both "Sparty" and "root" in the same sentence is obviously to facillitate usage of the word "against."
I doubt Sparty could win this game, and they probably know it. Instead of wasting their time, they'll probably sacrifice this game to spend more time looking at UM.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:24 PM ^
I can never bring myself to root for MSU
October 1st, 2010 at 12:24 PM ^
Seconded-Never!
October 1st, 2010 at 1:27 PM ^
NEVAR! Fuck Sparty. All of them. I will see them in hell!
October 1st, 2010 at 12:25 PM ^
Haha, that's a good one.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:27 PM ^
i root for sparty in the same manner i root for tOSU, I like the idea of an undefeated match-up when we play our rivals. that way theres more schadenfreuda when we win.
it doesn't help much that 2 of my brother-in-laws are sparty alums though :-(
October 1st, 2010 at 12:27 PM ^
Including every game they play in, every coin flip, their wallets on the way to the game, and their tv remotes.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:28 PM ^
October 1st, 2010 at 12:35 PM ^
I want sparty to lose every game. I like being able to brush them off as second or third tier garbage. I want to be able to say to MSU people. "Oh, I'm not from here, I don't know much about MSU, is that a junior college?" Or maybe, "Oh, you go to MSU, thats great. Who is your big rival? Toledo?"
October 1st, 2010 at 12:50 PM ^
But the results of a football game should have no impact whatsoever on whether you should brush off MSU as second or third tier. Whether we win our game with them next week or not, we will still be the University of Michigan and they won't be. Impartial parties outside the state know the difference and no single game will change that regardless of how much Spartan fans want to believe it will.
That said, I want to see Michigan give them a beatin' next weekend, but let's tend to the Hoosiers first....
October 1st, 2010 at 11:04 PM ^
The point contained in your post just might be the only thing that has gotten me through 3-9 and 5-7.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:30 PM ^
This wk MSU will realize their RB's won't run all over everyone, and cousins will be eaten alive by Wisconsins Dline
October 1st, 2010 at 12:34 PM ^
Good stuff!
October 1st, 2010 at 12:31 PM ^
I've got a lot of good friends from UW, and they are much "better fans" than your average crappy Sparty. I realize they are playing on the road, but UW's city and football environment/stadium are 1st class. If Michigan miraculously disappeared, or had never existed, I might be inclined to be a Badger man. So I hope they kick the shit out of MSU tomorrow.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:31 PM ^
I'd rather wisco win. I mean, lets be honest, we have a lot better chance of beating MSU than wisco, so we'd rather have our losses to top 10 teams.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
root for Sparty. Even when they play ND, you should root for the earth opening up and swallowing both teams whole first.
