OT- Minnesota

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY BIG TEN SCHEDULE WHY!!!
They are absolutely awful, and are racking up injuries like crazy.
September 26th, 2010 at 12:15 AM ^
We could play Minnesota but instead RichRod is going to have the opportunity to unleash hell on various other Big 10 programs. Fine by me.
September 25th, 2010 at 11:53 PM ^
He probably doesn't have much longer. I think it is sad since he went to a bowl game last year. Minnesota faces a huge problem in that they are in Minnesota. Not a lot of players will want to go there. They need a Wisconsinesque approach to recruiting and philosophy.
September 26th, 2010 at 12:05 AM ^
They had a head coach who believed in exactly that philosophy - and their fanbase foolishly ran him out of town four years ago.
September 26th, 2010 at 12:15 AM ^
This is exactly true. Minnesota was incredibly foolish for firing Glen Mason. Some schools need to recognize their ceiling, and Mason was about it for Minnesota.
September 26th, 2010 at 11:18 AM ^
Agreed. I was totally flabbergasted when Minnesota ran Mason out on a rail for "only" winning 7 or 8 games a year. That was one of the most foolish personnel decisions I have ever seen a college football athletic department make.
September 26th, 2010 at 1:53 AM ^
barring an unlikely turnaround. They appear to be headed for a 1-11 or 2-10 season, which shouldn't happen in a coach's fourth year. If they had played well last year they might have earned Brewster some slack, but they squeaked into a minor bowl at 6-6 with a team that was about at the level of Mason's worst teams.
September 26th, 2010 at 10:29 AM ^
North Dakota State, every Minny blog out there all said the same thing.
"The only reason he's not gone now is that you have to pay him for the whole year anyway, so you may as well make him suffer in the same way he's made you suffer."
September 25th, 2010 at 11:54 PM ^
i am wondering who is worst right now, Purdue or Minny. Purdue's season ending injuries have gotten that team down to Minny's level. The Purdue/Minny game is going to be the Big Ten barn burner of the season.
September 25th, 2010 at 11:55 PM ^
Why would you want Michigan to get a good to great record beating up on the likes of Minnesota? I am hopeful they can make major strides this year and make a bowl, but in all seriousness if they don't start beating the likes of Wisconsin, Iowa, Sparty, and most importantly OSU, then who cares what the overall record is...???
September 25th, 2010 at 11:56 PM ^
Injuries bring Purdue down to Minnesota's level. Minnesota brings Minnesota down to Minnesota's level.
September 26th, 2010 at 12:01 AM ^
Poor Minnesota. Northern's D was shooting through their line over and over again, Weber has seemingly regressed, and I'm fairly certain Brewster was outcoached in about every aspect of the game. If Minnesota wins more than one more game this year I will be shocked.
September 26th, 2010 at 12:22 AM ^
I wouldn't be shocked if Minnesota beat someone unexpected in the Big Ten, but I would if Purdue did. Purdue is flat out BAD.
edit: unless I missed something. I'll have to go read something about Minnesota. Either way Minny and Purdue both ran coaches out a few years ago and now they are both much worse. At least both were average under the formers.
September 26th, 2010 at 2:07 AM ^
coach retired. They didn't run him out of town any more than Michigan ran Lloyd out of town.
Its called retirement.
September 26th, 2010 at 9:22 AM ^
yep, i was at Joe Tiller's last game. He didn't sound like being run out of town in his post game speech to the crowd and inviting all of the purdue alums to his ranch in Wyoming.
September 26th, 2010 at 10:27 AM ^
That's about as far as you can get from run out of town.

Take a quick glace at MSU's schedule. No Ohio State and they play all of Minnesota, Purdue, Illinois and Northwestern. If they don't win 9 games it should be viewed as a failure for them, and it won't be because they're any good.
September 26th, 2010 at 12:07 AM ^
MSU's season success depends upon the result of the Michigan game. They could go 12-1 (including a bowl win) and the season would still be a failure in the eyes of MSU fans if they lose to Big Brother.
I am just glad they play Wisky next week. Hopefully the badgers beat them up a bit before we play.
September 26th, 2010 at 12:23 AM ^
They've got a soft schedule this year. But they do have to take on Wisconsin next week, but they've got what amounts to 8 home games this season (including that game at Ford Field).
September 26th, 2010 at 1:52 AM ^
In a game with 10,000 people at it, nobody has a home field advantage.
September 26th, 2010 at 12:03 AM ^
At least we get Purdue...or at least what is left of them.
September 26th, 2010 at 12:08 AM ^
I remain convinced that the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers Football Experiment is actually an extremely sophisticate performance art piece, or perhaps a study for some psychology PhD candidate's dissertation: "Masochism and Cyclical Depression in an Urban Big 10 Football Fanbase."
September 26th, 2010 at 1:53 AM ^
They have 6 recognized national championships... They were good once.
September 26th, 2010 at 2:02 AM ^
Minnesota is the unlikely answer to the trivia question, "Besides Michigan and OSU, which school has won the most Big Ten titles?"
September 26th, 2010 at 9:23 AM ^
so was Army once upon a time
September 26th, 2010 at 12:17 AM ^
Let's see how they do after losing to Wiscy and Michigan. I could easily see them losing to NW, Iowa, and PSU, too. Their victory over ND screwed up my projection of MSU as a 6-6 team again. Now they are looking like they are guaranteed a winning record at 7-5 before an easy bowl opponent.
September 26th, 2010 at 12:34 AM ^
True, they were heading toward OT vs a scrappy Middle Tennessee squad, but escaped extra innings with a late 4th qtr TD.
September 26th, 2010 at 1:47 AM ^
Brewster has been 1-11, 7-6 (Bowl loss), 6-7 (Bowl loss) and the expectation for 2010 (year 4) is a major turnaround. It's not going to happen, mainly because of the situation on defense (last in scoring defense and 10th in rushing defense).
Brewster can't maintain a staff either. He's changed his offensive strategy from spread to pro set in 3 years and has lost a decent DC in Ted Roof.
IMO They should have tried harder to hire Tony Dungy (a former Minn QB).
September 26th, 2010 at 8:21 AM ^
Nothing against the school at all, but Brewster is a prize a$$. I'll be glad to see him fired.
September 26th, 2010 at 11:32 AM ^
Don't you worry about Minnesota being off our schedule, let me worry about blank.
September 26th, 2010 at 1:13 PM ^
I see what you did there, in reference to my avatar. +1 sir

1-11 in Tim Brewsters future
