So we all thought the Borges Curse would die with Speight...

Him transferring means that borges has never (citation needed) recruited a QB who came to play for Borges and then finished his career as the starting QB (at that same school) right?

Hopefully this is an indication that he feels Patterson will be able to play this year. Either that or it was getting too late for him to wait around.

I don't get this. I don't see how he fits in that system. Nor do I see how this helps his chances at the next level. Wish him luck though

as it turns the page on last year and puts the focus on where we are heading now. Never felt he was an option coming back and I am sure the message was clear to him. I keep seeing a more focused Coaches and Team on all of the videos being put our right now. Our QB room is going to have more than enough talent in it to drive the team where we need to go this year. Best of luck to him, but glad the drama is over. Go Blue!!!

he put his body on the line for Michigan.  I don't blame him for transferring as it was time to move on to get a new start after his injury (2x).  Also, he never seemed to get along with Pep which was obvious all the way back to the Rome trip and spring ball.  UCLA has a solid OL which kept Rosen relatively clean over his 3-yr career (less than 2 sacks per game on average, only one injury - minor concussion), so hopefully they can keep Wilton healthy.

this is a really weird choice of schools for Speight to attend.  Maybe we're making assumptions on what Kelly will run offensively at UCLA but this doesn't really make sense at all.

Otherwise a good choice if weather is the major factor.  But I'm kind of wondering if football isnt WAY WAY down the list of reasons to pick UCLA for him personally.

...in the NFL, where running QBs are used way less often.

Also, Foles was good enough to beat Tom Brady in a Super Bowl.

I'm not sure these guys are the same level of talent. Foles also completed 66.8% of his passes in college, while Speight is about 8% below that.

Its going to take a couple years for Kelly to get the type of players he needs to run his offense like he did while Oregon (if that's his goal).  If Speight can win the starting QB spot, I imagine the offense will resemble more of the Eagles than Oregon. So a QB like Speight with his experience, might give him the best chance to win this season.

Also: remember Rich Rod's first year without a true QB on the team?

Of course it is, but Chip has a system and needs players to fit that system. DTR is a true frosh and only started one year of HS football (also, is he even on campus yet?), Carta-Samules is another grad transfer, and pretty sure they have another that has some limited playing experience. My guess is after their spring practice, Kelly is not thrilled with his current options and if I'm not mistaken, Speight proabbly has the most experience from the current group. Not sure any of the other QBs have more than 60 attempts in their career. Doesn't mean Wilton will win the job, but I'm sure his experience will help.
