Pro Day Notes: Hurst, O'Korn and More
In looking over Twitter and various news reports, some tidbits I garnered from Michigan's Pro Day today:
- Mo Hurst apparently did quite well. Ran a low 4.9 40 and put up 29 reps on the bench press.
- Haven't seen photos, but Shane Morris was apparently invited to throw at our Pro Day.
- Biggest news came from John O'Korn, who declared himself the most NFL-ready of all QB prospects, and said that he'd take himself No. 1. And it looks like he was also offering two tickets to the gun show.
I know one of the guys personally. . . Mo's agent. But I don't know protocol for sharing names, so would prefer to be somewhat discreet.
If you know the original pixel size, there are sites which can provide the necessary code to both link and scale down the image. 400 pixels in width fits nicely here in the threads, and the width can be adjusted accordingly. I can share the necessary HTML if interested.
Since mgoblog doesn't allow posts to be edited, it is pointless. But thanks for the offer.
Short Shuttle, 3 cone and broad jump drill. These are either average or below average measurement and that is worrisome considering he looked a lot more athletic on the field. It might be the case where Mo tried to gain weight to make himself look good in the weigh in and it's a bad weight as a result.
For DTs Mo posted above average verticle and shuttle times. Not sure on the broad and 3 cone (the link I reference has DE numbers for those but not DTs).
I think he did fine in that he posted good numbers and none that would be flags/make scouts doubt the tape.

His 3 cone time is slightly above average. You want 7.5 or better.
His SS should be at 4.5 or faster and his time is slightly above average.
His broad jump is slightly below average at 8'8" and he should be getting 9' or higher.
His 40 time is good, bench is good and vertical is good.
These three drills are a bit red flag considering that he has average agility testing though broad jump is kind of one of the more useless measurement (Vertical jump is a better barometer for it). SS shows flexibility of ankle and 3C shows the change of direction.
Hurst's numbers doesn't scream elite athlete which is supposed to be his calling. He's above average athlete which is fine but not what you expect from a top 10 pick.

Hope it works out for him. He was awful here but he’s a good kid and I wish him nothing but the best. He deserves a shot at success like everyone else does.

I saw the headline of "O'Korn declaring most NFL QB in the draft" and immediately realized it was one of the best clickbait headlines I've ever seen.
Well done. You got me
Watch him end up becoming one of the better NFL QBs.
