Report on my MGoBlindDate

Submitted by scanner blue on

I'll keep this brief since it's not interesting enough for a diary and I'd prefer it to disappear in a day. On Monday I posted if anyone wanted a free Bball ticket and dinner beforehand in the Jack Roth Club for the Event Team appreciation dinner. I got two takers and said yes to the one who replied to my post first before I checked my email. At this point trepidation set in because who was this random poster that I would spend an hour over dinner with who had less than 10 pts since joining the site in 2014. I've been to over a dozen MGoGettogethers and I might want to share a beer with maybe half of the attendees (Brian might not make the cut).

Mr. MGoGMo and I turned out to have a lot in common. He and his wife both went to UofM and met there in the late '80's, my wife and I did the same in the early '80's. His son is a current student here and his daughter will be applying here soon. My son and daughter are both graduates of Michigan. We walk into the suites and the first athletic staffer we see  he knows personally (this was probably the only staffer there that I didn't know). He used to do TV work at the football games for a Flint station and this last season helped out the Amazon crew on their documentary. I tried to regale him with my stories of working the football camps last summer and meeting half the coaches and maybe a quarter of the team. It was a better dinner than my senior prom to be honest.  I had to leave early to usher the NU game but he made it a point to track me down at halftime at sec. 104 and to thank me again.

Let the snark begin...no we didn't get a room, no bromance...It's not MSU related nor has anything to do with recruiting. Go Blue!

we've got a herd of boots so you can all help out - heck, who doesn't like to milk, muck out stalls, gather eggs, feed, hay, etc?   and yes, there will be beer.  i'll make sure to buy fancy-pants beer in case anybody would notice.  and then we'll light the bbq and put on our all-natural, grass fed, no hormones/gmo/vaccines beef, chicken, lamb, whatever.  you'll like it, i promise.

incidentally, thinking of bringing some of the kids to their first U of M hoops game saturday - anybody got a line on 4-6 tickets?  location unimportant, as long as its inside crisler.

I couldn't believe it when my son texted to tell me there was a thread on MGoBlog about me.  Yes, I am MGoGMo and I was scanner blue's MGoBlindDate.

I just happened to be in Ann Arbor on Monday afternoon to pay a parking ticket(hard to believe in A2) and while I was at city hall, I decided to check in on MGoBlog, saw scanner blue's ticket and dinner offer, and figured- why not?  At the time, I did not know my acceptance might be rejected because of my lack of points on MGoBlog and I'm glad blue scanner did not discriminate against me because of that.  I happen to be an MGoBlog addict, but just never post.

Anyways, I figured I'd have no problem having a good time with a fellow MGoBlogger and I was right.  Scanner blue and all the other workers at the Event Team dinner were super nice and, of course, we all had our love of all things Michigan to talk about.  As scanner blue mentioned, he then had to go to work and I went in to Crisler to enjoy a Michigan victory over Northwestern.

After seeing all the replies to this post, I figured you all might want to hear my side of the story.  Just goes to show the great community we have here on MGoBlog.  Thanks again to blue scanner and Go Blue!

I thought you were going to start mgoblog dating. Though I think there's only about 3 to 5 percent ladies registered on this site? May be even less.

A few years ago there was another attempted MGoHookup where one of the few female members of this forum was basically stalked by someone afterward.  I don't remember all the specifics but there was a lot of he-said/she-said and the thread got deleted.

I'm glad this went better.
