Webb: all systems go for Shea Patterson, other two may take longer

Submitted by evenyoubrutus on
Sam Webb is saying (in a paywalled article) That Shea Patterson is looking very good to commit today, according to his gut. But, his gut also says we will need to exercise patience with Van Jefferson and Deontay Anderson. All 3 WANT to come to Michigan, but there is a holdup with the "red tape." No indication as to how long it will be, but likely not today. Take it fwiw.

So with three " out of the blue" probable new additions and our scholarship limit, does the early signing date take on new challenges? I would guess that if a kid has a committable offer and may be on the fence, he may commit early so as not to be left out. This could lead to a flurry of early commits if the rules allow. Also we would have the possibility of having a nightmarish scenario if a kid sends in his LOI, but we are anticipating a better commit to occur in February and therefore not accept the first, early commit, even though the old adage of a bird in the hand may later be found to be reliable.

I have no idea if LOIs were already sent to recruits or if the process is different in the early signng period than what is was historically. Would appreciate any insights.

We are going to have more players transfer out and this has been posted by multiple sources. Our scholarship numbers are only going to go up once this happens. I will keep repeating this because this is what has to happen if we want to play for championships. Every other elite team in the country does it this way.

We have several exits before any handshakes: 1 RS SO, 1 RS JR, and perhaps Chase. There are 7 more RS SR that are not guaranteed a spot. With no info other than my guess at roster needs, I would prioritize them from most needed: Mone, Furbush, JBB, Marshall, Watson, Bunting, Wangler. I think the 3 noted by you would simply displace a RS SR in the same spot.

On the fifth day of Christmas, Harbaugh gave to me . . . Five new recruits!

Four on offense,

            Three from Ole Miss,

            Two from elsewhere,

And one actually from a high school.

What are the odds Greg Little is laying in the weeds waiting to find out about the waiver before showing interest in leaving? Because it is going to get ugly once everyone is cleared to play but maybe he doesn't want to show his hand and alienate teammates. Rashan's mom was a smoke screen. Maybe? Fella can dream can't he?

"Of course that's your contention, you're a first year grad student you just got finished Marxian historian, Pete Garrison probably. You're gonna be convinced of that til next month when you get to James Lemon then you're gonna be talkin about how the economies of Virginia and Pennsylvania were entrepreneurial in capitalist way back in 1740. That's gonna last until next year you're gonna be regortating Gordon Wood. Talking about you know the pre-revolutionary utopia and the capital forming effects of military mobilization"
