OT: UCF hires Heupel from Mizzou

I guess UCF is a better job than Mizzou? Weird considering that UCF went undefeated and was left out of the the playoff. If Missouri somehow went undefeated it would be in.

just wow
dropping from P5 SEC to AAC
edit - never mind, he was the OC, not head coach
not as bad as I thought

He was the OC at Mizzou, going to be a head coach at UCF... thats like a normal thing to do
December 5th, 2017 at 12:21 PM ^
That's what I was going to say. It seems like an awesome non-P5 place to go to build your resume.

that just had an undefeated season, so should have a leg up on producing a good team again next year.

Yeah Barry Odom is the head coach. He deserves some type of award for the turnaround of the that team this year. They went from the worst team in FBS early this year to an upper-mid level SEC team. They lost 5 in a row to start 1-5 and then won the last 6 to finish 7-5. One of the most impressive and unexpected things I saw from this season.

i made the same mistake. oh well.

OC of an unranked teams to HC of a team that is ranked and has a ton of talent??? Seems like a no-brainer to me if you want to become a HC.
December 5th, 2017 at 12:21 PM ^
Huh? This seems like a clear improvement. HC at good AAC > OC anywhere

I wonder where Kevin Sumlin ends up after all this is done.

Tennessee is my(admittedly extremely random and uneducated) guess.

Per the OP: Why isn't an undefeated AAC team not in the play off?

ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12, SEC

It is an upgrade...old news though

averaging 51 points per in those games. They were really coming on strong at the end of the year. They ended up 7th in the FBS in offensive yards for the year. Not a bad hire it would seem for UCF.
December 5th, 2017 at 12:32 PM ^
Certainly some similarities. Hiring a young OC that was formerly a really good College QB. UCF was a great story this year - I hope they can keep it rolling.

He likes former Big 12 National Championship caliber QB's as head coaches. I think Heupel can do well considering UCF OC Troy Walters is staying on board with the Knights. Will be interesting to see how consistent they can be. What gets lost among the *HURR DUR UCF WAS 0-12 IN 2015* is that the Knights went 12-1 in Bortles final year (beat Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl 2013-14) and went 9-4 in 2014.

Pretty darn good hire considering how good Mizzou's offense was throughout the year. Especially in the latter half of the year.

There's some talent in Missouri; it's not that barren. But anyway, this guy's going from being OC at Mizzou to HC at UCF.
December 5th, 2017 at 1:43 PM ^
Sure there is talent in Missouri, but comparing the talent level to Florida is like drinking out of a normal water glass compared to drinking from a fire hose.
December 5th, 2017 at 2:49 PM ^
But it's also easier for the Mizzou coach to recruit the best Missouri talent than it is for the UCF coach to recruit the best Florida talent. There's something to be said for being top dog in your own state.

They are going to hit even H A R D E R than those Frost teams.......could go unbeaten AND unscored upon with all TKO'S or straight knockouts!!!
