MGoBlog turns 13 today

Submitted by LLG on

"AT 12:30 AM on December 4th, 2004, MGoBlog was born thusly"

I started reading this blog on a daily basis over 9 years ago.  Back then, Brian had time to respond to emails and even posted them occasionally (see the bottom of this post).

1989 UM GRAD suggested:  "Are we having a Blog Mitzvah? I can get a rabbi there to celebrate this important milestone for the blog."

I'm not sure how I'll celebrate, but I am grateful for the blog.  Go Blue!

I found mgoblog around Carr's last year...  back when I was young and dumb enough to pay rivals and espn...

Since then this site has been both a place to share and learn... and a place to be disappointed in my fellow wolverines...

I found this site during the Rich Rod coaching search. Now I visit it everyday and my wife jokes that when I'm on my phone I'm on this site. She is usually right. Congrats on 13 years!

I always wanted to ask Brian how conflicted he was about the blogs explosion into legitimacy occuring around the main events that shattered Michigan Football. First the Appy state game created a 10 fold out burts the coaching search and then the demise of RR. He'd been forced to leave his job and build this blog, in the darkest period of the thing he loved so much. I often wonder where I would be had he just given up... Probably more successful in my chosen path. Anyways, thanks Mgoblog, I couldn't have failed without you.

I have also been around for a while and value the Blog and its community. I have spent many, many hours on the site and I am sure that will continue.  It is simply the best place for Michigan information and commentary.

Milestones such as birthdays are often the catalyst for reflection and change.  As some above have softly suggested, some evolution of the blog is overdue.  I hope this happens and that Brian engages his readers in that journey.

I knew Brian's brother in a slightly roundabout way, and one day he sent me a message saying "hey, my brother just started this MIchigan blog, you should probably read it." I think it was within the first week or so--definitely remember there being almost nothing in terms of content, and virtually no one in terms of a community. It was weird. And I liked it immediately. The idea that I never had to go back to the Victors board to get information was more than a little attractive.

You created a great landing spot for real fans. Been visiting since about 2007. I was hooked from the start. Once I read my first UFR I was completely addicted. UFRs are like crack cocaine and heroin to me.

It's been great to see the site evolve with features like 27 (28) tickets, podcasts, and bringing Ace, Seth and others.

I am also impressed that you've made the effort to attend coaches clinics, and bring that knowledge to MGoBlog. Through you I have also found Chris Brown's Smart Football, and all the fancy stats.

Everytime I meet a new Michigan fan, I always spread the word. Visit MGoBlog.

Mazal tov on your Bar Mitzvah and officially becoming a man!  Make sure you save all your bar mitzvah money for college.

Thank you, Brian and MGoBlog community!  This is hands the best blog site ever!

Well I didn't know it had passed this long but I remember when I found this blog now, It was during the exhausting 2008 season, prior to that I used to check Mlive! =S and it was filled with trolls and crass people, Spartinas and Suckeyes were common words there, if you are tired of people here being insuferable after this season then you can imagine how bad was that during the 2008 season, then I found this blog and it was like heaven, finally a place where my mother woulnd't be brought into the conversation for pointing out that we had a lot of freshmen and no QB and that there was no talente left on the team for Rich Rod... I've never gone back to those kind of forums and If things get a little to rowdy here actions are taken and I can just as easy avoid reading some of the threads. I think it was this, touch the banner and Varsity blog the blogs that I started to enjoy more. There was a blog by MgoRecruit or something of the like that I enjoyed too, it was run by a guy from England IIRC but it too disappeared just like Varsity Blue, oh well, that reminds me how I apreciate this blog.

Brian - Thanks for creating a place where we can laugh, cry, be crabby, sarcastic or joyous over a Michigan win. There is no other place like this - let’s keep learning from each other.

Wow, I've never actually seen the first post. Crazy how far this place has come.

Happy Birthday to the best website on the internet (Yes, I said it, if you eliminate essential tools like Google and Amazon from the conversation MGoBlog wins)

This crazy place is awesome. Thanks Brian for feeding my Michigan addiction with some of the only incredible sportswriting left in this awful world of hot takes, rumors, and Paul Finebaum.

Although I am very capable of it, I won't do the honors of posting Birthday Muppets, as I don't feel like I deserve to have such power, but that's the video currently playing in my head!

Love all of you insane wolverines. Go Blue!

This calls for a great big HAPPY BIRTHDAY MGOBLOG!!!

I first started lurking here after the Appy State disaster. I needed an outlet but didn't join right away. Still mostly lurk but have enjoyed the great content from Brian and Co.
