CFP predictions

Ok y'all with one week of games to go who you got gettin in and what seeding for each team who's in? I say - 1 Georgia vs 4 Alabama and - 2 Oklahoma vs 3 Clemson. Then I'll take - Bama vs Oklahoma with Oklahoma winning it all. My only fear is that Oklahoma loses to TCU and if that happens I guarantee the committee will be trippin hard and will put OSU in as the 4 seed (I think Osu beats Wisconsin) No way TCU or Oklahoma will get in over Osu if they all have 2 losses. Even though you would think head to head or Osu's loss to Iowa would matter. In this case sadly I dont think they'd care. Boring day and we have no game to look forward to, I thought this would be fun. Whatch y'all think? Sorry there's no paragraphs I can't get it to do that.

ESPN Chris Fallica: in the last two years, the 8 teams which reached the CFP had 6 losses by a combined 31 points. Ohio States 2 losses this year have been by a combined 46 points.

One would think that has to come into play if they are one of the teams being considered for the final spot.

The problem the committee has is that there's a good chance at least 2 teams will have 2 losses and a couple 1-loss teams will be sitting out the playoff because of when they lose.  I'm fine with Wisconsin being left out, but it's hard to think Alabama isn't better than either B1G team.

Get preferential treatment. (just to quote Desmond) However, I think this one’s a moot point and Wisconsin gets it done. Then I think you’ll be left with Clemson, Oklahoma, Auburn, and Wisconsin. Not sure how they’ll do in the playoffs but every point/win makes us look better. Go Blue!! Go Big Ten!

The U beats Clemson......

TCU beats OK......

OSU beats Wiscy......

UGA beats Auburn.......

And Chaos would reign........

While I would never parlay that at Vegas, although it is not completely out of the question either.

This would be great because there would be the "Conference Champion" faction that would claim the following...

The U

TCU

OSU

UGA....

are in the playoffs becasue they won their conferences

And the double talking putzs of the world that would claim the playoffs should be....

Bama

Auburn

OK

Clemson......

And no one wins in the playoff selection and maybe, JUST MAYBE people will wake up and get their act together and do the 8 team playoff......

The sooner the better...

8 teams

5 team that win their conference, period....

3 wild cards teams......

The wild card team can only be seeded 6th, 7th, or 8th.

First round games are at the top 4 seeds home stadium.

This would put an ultimate premium on every conference game......

Lets go chaos.......!!!!!

If we had an average B1G QB we could have put 40 points on their D. I'm pissed that we could not beat them at home, since they are not a top 10 team. WI should have no problems beating OSU.

1. Clemson

2. Wisconsin

3. Oklahoma

4. Georgia

Ohio State (8) beats Wisconsin (4) handily. Ohio State finishes at 11-2 as Big Ten champion with losses to Oklahoma at home (31-16) and at unranked Iowa (55-24), but with wins at home over ninth-ranked Penn State (39-38) and 16th-ranked Michigan State (48-3).  Wisconsin finishes 12-1, having beaten only one ranked team, 21st-ranked Northwestern (33-24) in September.

TCU (11) beats Oklahoma (3) on a controversial last-second play.  Both teams finish 11-2, and they would’ve lost to each other and to unranked Iowa State, and each lost to Iowa State by seven points. Oklahoma would have wins over three ranked teams, at 8th- ranked Ohio State (31-16), at 19th-ranked Oklahoma State (62-52) and home against TCU (38-20). TCU’s wins against ranked teams would be against Oklahoma and at Oklahoma State (44-31), but they’d be the Big XII champion.

Miami (7) beats Clemson (1) in a close game for the ACC championship. Miami finishes 11-1 with a loss at 4-8 Pitt in its last regular season game, but with wins at home against 22nd-ranked Virginia Tech (28-10) and 15th-ranked Notre Dame (41-8) in consecutive weeks in November.  Defending national champion Clemson finishes 11-2 with losses at 4-8 Syracuse (27-24) on Friday, October 13 after its starting QB was injured and to Miami in the ACC championship game.

Georgia (6) avenges its only loss and beats Auburn (2), but by no more than three points in the SEC championship game.  Georgia finishes 12-1 with its only loss at Auburn (40-17), but with its only other win against a top-25 team coming at Notre Dame on September 9 (20-19).  Auburn finishes 10-3 with losses at top-ranked Clemson (14-6), at 17th-ranked LSU (27-23) and to Georgia in the SEC championship game.

Stanford (12) avenges ones of its three losses and beats Southern Cal (10) in the Pac 12 championship game. Stanford finishes 10-3 with losses at Southern Cal (42-24) and unranked, but 10-2, San Diego State (20-17) in consecutive weeks on September 9 and 16, and at 18th-ranked Washington State (24-21) on November 4, but with wins against 10th-ranked USC, 13th-ranked Washington (30-22) and 15th-ranked Notre Dame.  USC finishes 10-3 with its other losses at 18th-ranked Washington State (30-27) and at 15th-ranked Notre Dame (49-14). Its only win against a top-25 team would be against Stanford on September 9.

Memphis (20) beats UCF (14) by at least 14 points.  Both teams finish 11-1, with each having beaten the other as their only win against a top-25 team. UCF beat Memphis 40-13 in September.

Alabama (5) finishes at 11-1 with its only loss at Auburn (26-14) in the Iron Bowl in the last game of the regular season.

Georgia - 1, Alabama - 2, Clemson - 3, Oklahoma - 4, Miami - 5, Ohio State - 6, Auburn - 7, TCU - 8, Wisconsin - 9, Stanford - 10, Penn State - 11, Washington - 12, Southern Cal - 13, Notre Dame - 14, LSU-15, Memphis - 16, UCF - 17,  Michigan State - 18, Washington State - 19, Oklahoma State - 20.

The goose egg OSU layed last year? How does that not play a factor. You let OSU in with two loses, one is an ass spanking to a mediocre Iowa team, and you will have the same results. The committee wants competition, not blowouts in the playoffs. OSU is not playoff material and the OSU homers like Galloway pushing this agenda is gross. So dumb.

No one is forgetting last year's CFP, and what happened to OSU there. I certainly don't (and won't). I was hosting our annual NYE party, with quite a few Buckeye fans in attendance, and I kinda relished it, perhaps a tad more than I should have, but...

But, if OSU gets in, I think that'll be, what, 3 out of the past 5 years or something that they've been in the playoffs? I'm kinda sick of the obligatory Ohio State game on TV on NYE. I'd rather not have to watch them at all.

I seriously can’t understand no matter what metric you throw at me how Ohio state should be allowed in. Getting straight torched at Iowa and I hate excuses but Michigan wins that game with a different qb. I really Wisconsin wins and just ends the debate. I would like to see.
1-Clemson
2-Oklahoma
3-Auburn
4-Wisconsin/Alabama

Here's the thing. I hate advocating for Ohio State, and I really don't intend to do that, but...if OSU beats Wisconsin, I think we can all agree (right?) that Ohio State would have the edge over Wisconsin for a playoff spot. Sure, Wisconsin would have 1 less loss, but in the grand scheme of things:

  • Ohio State would have the head-to-head win
  • Ohio State would have wins over two current top-10 teams (one a top 5)

If OSU beats Wisconsin, Wisconsin is rightfully out.

Now, between OSU and Alabama? That's where it gets tricky. Keep in mind that (should everything else play out as you have it above -- Clemson wins, OU wins, and Auburn wins -- Alabama obviously NEEDS Ohio State to win for it to have any chance at all).

So, let's say that happens. Let's say Ohio State beats Wisconsin, in a relatively close game, something like 27-21, and wins the B10 championship.

So, Ohio State would then have those two top-10 wins (one a top-5) on its resume, plus a conference championship.

While on the other hand, Alabama would have no conference title, and its best wins over:

  • Florida State (ranked #3 at the time of the game, but finished unranked and awful)
  • #17 LSU (ranked #19 at the time of the game) -- this is THE BEST win on Bama's resume
  • #23 Miss State (ranked #16 at the time of the game)

It's not a terribly easy decision, and yeah, there's that loss to Iowa lurking in there, and Bama has no bad losses. I think it might truly come down to margin of victory for OSU. If we see a repeat of a few years ago, when they took apart Wisconsin 55-0, OSU is definitely in. If they squeak by? The conversation becomes more difficult.

It'll be interesting to see what happens, but if I had to bet on it? I'd say OSU (if they win) is in, and Bama gets left out in the cold.
