OT - Thanksgiving - Traditions and Questions
Mates,
Soon after graduating from Michigan I realized that Thanksgiving was easily my favorite holiday, not the least of reasons being that most jobs I had gave both Thursday and Friday off. More importantly it is a uniquely American holiday celebrating our incredible fortune at being able to have the economic and religious freedoms that had never before existed in civilization - things that we all take for granted were truly radical accomplishments attained by our forefathers.
George Washington famously proclaimed: sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.
So the holiday questions are these:
1. What are your favorite Thanksgiving traditions, and what are you doing for this holiday weekend? Family? Travel? Great meals? Maybe some football?
2. With the scheduling of CFB, The Game is now this holiday weekend. Are you going, and if so, will you be dropping by the MgoBlog fiesta?
EDIT: 3. It's morning time now, so what is in your cup?
I hope you are with family and/or friends no matter what.
Happy Thanksgiving and Go Blue, beat ohio!

Watching football, eating turkey, maybe catching a movie at the theaters if I have the energy.
It will probably be best if I don't post during the game on Saturday. If I don't wish to be banned, that is. Hoping for a win, but not expecting it.

Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends...at someone else's home. I only have to bring the wine. No cooking is truly something to be thankful for. Saturday will be in AA for the game. Already committed to another tailgate and since it is a noon game, probably won't have time to make it to the MGoBlog bash.
Blessings to my fellow MGoBloggers and Happy Thanksgiving!

Playing some backyard football with the family/friends, hopefully come out on the winning side Lol. Hoping the Lions can win, but not sure I can fully trust them to bet the game. Ready to eat some tasty grub tomorrow with some tasty beverages obviously. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

hopefully you will get some where you are. the lions have a heart beat this year again, so don't count them out against the vikes.

the lions have played pretty decent and i think have had the toughest schedule of all the NFL. meanwhile the vikings have a fine record, but conversely they have had one of the weakest schedules. that flips today with the lions now only playing 2 teams (vikes are one of them) with a winning record the rest of the year and both of those games are at home. if the lions win today that could really bode well for the remainder of the season. go lions.
and particular blessings to you and your church/church family. i have never preached on or about thankgiving but i have always thought that it would be a very fruitful area.

Sadly, I won't be able to make it back East for Thanksgiving this year. So while it'll just be my roommates and me out here in California, I've already made a few sides, we've got a Turkey to throw on the grill tomorrow morning, and as always, there's plenty of beer.
Will be watching The Game bright and early at 9AM. Again, with plenty of beer (and probably something a touch stronger) on hand.

The Lions will be on the TV, the turkey will be slowly cooking in the Green Egg, and I will be looking forward to dessert as we live near an Amish community and they absolutely make the best pies ever.

such as the facts in the captain's diary, written contemporaneously, and which contradict the shade that article tries to throw. i know its popular to denegrate american history, but i'll stick with the people who lived it. the article also says thanksgiving wasn't 'official' until the 1860's, which contradicts president washington's rather 'official' creation and recognition of the holiday and the reasons therefore, cited in the OP.
