Some people actually do it as a hedge.

If Michigan wins, you won't care about the lost money.  Michigan just beat Ohio State and Urban Meyer for first time ever.

If they lose, you at least win some money to help ease the pain.  Pain that you would have had anyway.

There is a certain logic to that.

We get blown out...hate that I feel that way but have seen nothing to indicate we can win this game..we have no offense and you cant expect the defense to win every game..just not happening

This gives me some hope.  Hard to believe if Peters is out???  Regardless, go Blue!!!  I wish I could be there to cheer/scream my head off no matter what happens.

I'm not a sports gambler.  How does it work . . . if the line opens at -13 and then later moves to -20, are you locked in at -13 if you bet early or do you get -20?

If you are locked by betting early, why wouldn't everybody wait until the last minute?

Who specifically sets the lines?

Who is the guy(s) that sat down, did the research, and said "I know X,Y,Z about Michigan football and Ohio State football and their fanbases, here is the line where we can get equal action on each side."

Who specifically does this?

Where do you sign up for that job?

Damn, I was hoping it was some dude sitting in a Mirage penthouse who watches college football for a living, then sets the line from on high while he tells the showgirls in his room to quiet down so he can call it in.

I was going to see if they had any openings for an apprenticeship.

The spread/odds on most sports bets are fixed when the bet is placed. In Parimutuel betting e.g. in horse racing the odds aren’t fixed until all bets are placed.

The reason you wouldn’t wait until the end is the line can go against you too. If you think that line is going up (I’ve seen 11 not 13) and you wanted to bet on OSU you’d lock 11 points right now.

The “smart money” waits until the last minute. When you see late line shifts before kickoff that’s generally a tell that the sharks are in on one team. If the line moves -14 to -16 for OSU expect a cover. If it moves towards -9 to -8 it should be a close game. Of course there are always exceptions.

they got blown out 2 years ago and that seemed impossible. this year will go the same way, unless the defense plays a 70s bo style game.12-10 or 10-7 game. but for the life of me i cant see that happening. back then they really believed they could beat osu, not anymore.

Need to get a blocked punt, run and convert something weird on a fake punt, get a good punt return, etc.

Somehow, we have to find a way to get 10-14 points advantage from those units.

Has it happened this year - not that much - but that's what decides a game when an underdog needs to play nearly perfectly to win.

In a close game, I think the OSU kicker will blow it. He almost handed us the game last year.

Take Michigan getting 13 all day. They can get to Barrett. Barrett is the best player in the world when playing the illlinois of the world. How many solid games has he had against Good d’s?? Go through the list please he had a good 4th quarter against penn state this year that is about it. Can’t have turnovers and can’t give up big plays on special teams which Ohio has been susceptible to as well
