But he committed much earlier in the cycle. I don't think Kwity Paye's ranking jumped after his commitment, but he's looking like an underrated, off the radar recruit in that class.

Haskins reminds me a little of MAAR on the basketball team. Super productive in HS, but overlooked due to level of competition. MAAR has worked out because he's willing to play any role. He's not just a scorer who needs the ball in his hands. Haskins is already showing more than just running the ball..

Ekiyor one hurts but I gotta throw some shade on him. Bama also knows that it could have any lineman they wanted but they chose a Michigan commit. They know that this offensive line is a couple pieces and some experience away from being great I believe. That's the hugest piece as of late that this team has been missing from being back at the top again year in and year out as we all know.  Filiagia, Ruiz, Onwenu, Bredeson and Newsome seem like one of those lines where d-lineman and linebackers get their backs broke and discs bulged. I'm getting scared just sitting here in my chair picturing those guys. It might be one of those lines that's own back gets broke in a big game if the next man cant cut it. That said, to hell with the young sell-out Ekiyor if he doesn't want a challenge and a top notch education.

Higdon and Evans were three stars depending on the site you source. Seems decent and will be interesting to see him get into the strength program and develop. Depth is always good.

had less impressive numbers yet was more highly ranked/rated than Haskins.

Davis had 1656 rushing yards, and 6.8 YPC average, in his senior year (says the internet).

Hassan Haskins had over 1900 yards, and over 9.0 YPC (!!!), in his senior year.

Davis was the no. 741 player overall in the 247 composite and the no. 1 FB in the 247 composite (even though he said he did not want to considred only a FB).

Haskins is the no. 1555 overall player in the 247 composite and the no. 95 (!!!) RB in the 247 composite.

How is a guy that averages over 9 YPC way down at no. 95 RB and no. 1555 overall?

He does not have a high 4 star frame or total yardage number.  But his very good total yardage, great YPC, and the fact that his size is normal for a very good HS RB, does not add up to such a low ranking.

Maybe he just did not impress at camps and got assigned a low 3 star ranking, which never changed despite a great senior season.

Internet says Haskins' HS team is ranked no. 6 this year in Missouri, so this does not spound like a HS team that plays only terrible opponents.  Any one know Missouri HS football well?

Two of the best Freshman RB's I've seen this year, Jonathan Taylor and Morgan Ellison, were both three star players. With the exception of elite talents, I would guess RB is a hard position to grade and is based more on measurables due to line play and level of competition. I might be wrong. Anyway, Welcome young man!

Really? You can’t get it? A low 3* with just one exceptional trait like speed, strength, hands, route running, agility etc has a chance to develop his other abilities to greatly out play his ranking. What’s Haskins elite skill? The player brought up had elite speed. Not a good comparable. Haskins seems like Taylor from last years class in that the ceiling for potential is low. Taylor by all accounts is a super high character kid. It’s good to have players like that in a locker room so even though his ceiling might be low I was very happy he stuck in the class.

in addition Taylor was much higher rated (no. 23 overall RB and a high 3 star) and had a much better offer list than Haskins.

Taylor averaged 235 yards per game and 12.4 (!!!!) YPC as a HS senior.  That is really good.

That said, Haskins did average over 9.0 YPC this year, so...not as good as Taylor, but still pretty good

i believe was a composite 3 star? But 4.5 40 speed. At 4.74 Haskins is slower than Rashan Gary....  hopefully he has some good change of direction and shiftiness

Does the staff think these low ranked kids are vastly under valued ? Or are we having trouble recruiting ? This is starting to get concerining. Hope we finish the class strong.

When did Jay Harbaugh become persona non grata around here?  There's been a ton of complaints about him all of a sudden.

I get the gripe about nepotism, but it seems like the position groups he's been accountable for (TE before, RB now) have performed well enough.  I really wouldn't say they've been problem areas.

Generally, I'd think that a sleeper prospect we offer in the fall is going to be more likely to pan out than one we suddenly offer in January, since it implies that the player is a fairly high priority for us.
