Can we stop down playing this rivalry please?

Good call this morning Desmond. How many times do we need to lose to inferior MSU teams for us to take this seriously? Even most of John L's teams played us down to the wire. I'm sick of us playing down to MSU and we even looked uninspired out there. Meanwhile MSU is jacked up and played smart, ran the ball, and hung on to the ball. What is the problem here?

We just lost to a squad that went 3-9 last year and lost more players in the offseason. I don't know who plays down the rivalry but that is pretty terrible. We are always looking up at OSU and they don't typically lose the types of games where they have so much more talent than the squads they're playing.

I'm mad as the next guy,  O'korn, Ty and McDrop just killed us tonight.

This weather favored Sparty like when they beat OSU in the bad weather in CBUS a few years ago.  They should have never won either game.  We just plain old handed them this win like a Christmas gift. .

multiple times.

The rivalry, not rivalry thing isn't even the point.  Call it what you want.  It's a game on our schedule and we can't give the ball away repeatedly and expect to win.  They weren't so good, so much as we didn't show up.

This hurts, this has always been bigger to me than OSU because of family being Spartan fans and alumni.  And I think it's so big for some that they pretend that it's not that big as a way of slighting MSU.

Lose to OSU and I don't hear about it for a yeaar, lose to MSU and I hear about it for a year.  It's much bigger for me personally.

I'll agree with you that this is a big rivalry as soon as you add it to your logo. I'm sure it already is part of your icon when you post on your fav Sparty board.

1) Offensive gameplan, adjustments, playcalling in a monsoon and execution were terrible

2) The coaches have no clue what the identity should be offensively

3) If there was one team to not lose to because of inflated self worth and inferiority complex somehow paradoxically combined.....

MSU and their 2/3 star talent are built for this type of game. Play solid defense, know your limitations on offense and allow your opponent to make the mistakes. If this game was played at noon or 3:30 we rally back and win by double digits. Playing in the rain and win neutralized our speed and ability to stretch the field horizontally and vertically. They did the same thing against osu a couple of years ago in similar conditions. It may take a few days, but come Tuesday or Wednesday we will realize that other than having to put up with State fans for another year, this game changes nothing. Win the rest of our games and we'll be Big Ten champs and most likely have a spot in the playoffs. Everyone has a bad half of football and you can't expect much from your offense in the middle of a downpour. Defense wins championships and we have a championship caliber defense. Despite 5 turnovers, wind, and rain, we still had a chance to win on the final play. The offense is concerning but I won't fault them for struggling in the conditions they faced tonight.

I know State was up 14 - 3 at the half, that's why I said everyone has a bad half of football and you can't expect much from your offense in a monsoon. Thus the bad half was the first half and the monsoon was the second half. Do you think State won tonight because they are the better team? Do you believe Iowa State is better than Oklahoma? The better team doesn't always win. Teams have a bad day, fluke plays happen, officials make mistakes, and yes, weather can play major role. I don't think this team is a playoff caliber team offensively, but defensively they are. A good defense will keep you in any game and my point was this game doesn't change anything. Win the rest of our games and we are in playoff contention. You can say this team isn't good enough to win the rest of their games and if you are, I hope you were saying that two weeks ago because if you're basing your opinion on this team solely by what you saw tonight then you are clearly over-reacting.

are green and white.  Enjoy your victory.

But don't be so quick to cast stones about who is delusional.... you were exposed in your bowl game.... zero points.  no win, no loss with dignity, just zero.

Brian and Ace are two of the biggest offenders when it comes to downplaying MSU. Every year they heap loads of insults and act like MSU shouldn't even show up to play us, as if they have forgot the past decade. I see it and cringe every year. Seems like our whole program feels the same way. Fucking tired of losing to less talented MSU teams because they want it more and are better prepared.

Ask OSU how good Clemson was.  Don't be an idiot.  You're loving that MSU got their ass kicked by another team when we couldn't do it ourselves.  We didn't do so well against Alabama, either.  Until we get to the playoffs, we need to shut our piehole about how other teams did.  We love to talk about how MSU loves our loses, yet we talk smack about MSU and Alabama.  MSU made it to the playoffs.  We also say how it was only because our coaches sucked--well.......just sayin'.

and I will agree with you that our preparation was evidently lacking.

Brian and Ace weren't wrong though, and didn't influence the game.

In a weird way, it might pay off in the long run that we laid this egg tonight.  Figure out what needs to be fixed, and fix it.
