Three times the  two Point…

Three times the  two Point Guards hanging on to a 3-5 point lead at the end of the game shot with 18 seconds on the shot clock. How does Howard not notice that and coach it. A crap 3 point shot from Llewellyn and two drives from McDaniel that can get that shot at any time. Why is he driving it under a minute up by three? That doesn’t help close out games when there is no awareness from your PGs.

A closer game than the end…

A closer game than the end score, that Michigan figured out how to win. Watching Reed defend the perimeter is gorgeous and welcome back Terrance Williams with 9 boards in 22 mins. A lot of good things in this game as the D has taken a big step up and we continue to remember the importance of rebounding.

Another thing of note. I never felt like Diabate and Dickinson enjoyed playing together. It seemed like there was a competitiveness between them that you just don’t see when Reed and D are sharing the court. They win together and it makes the last 8 mins of the last two games a welcomed approach.

And Purdue ranked 47

Mike Morris with the blocked…

Mike Morris with the blocked FG, was just a precursor to a great 2nd half for the DL.

Let’s hope Harbaugh…

Let’s hope Harbaugh approaches this as, “What you do have is my word. And it’s stronger than oak.” And that it works out better than it did for Jerry Maguire.

Nice looking out.  Just…

Nice looking out.  Just ordered two of the Posters. $10 apiece and then $16 for shipping.

I respect your point, but I…

I respect your point, but I don’t think the goal for Michigan is ever to win 10 games. Our goal is to beat our rivals and win the Big Ten. I think the program is in alignment with that goal. It’s what they preach and it’s why we got rid of Don Brown. His defenses could win 10 games, but they couldn’t accomplish the goals. Our new Defense doesn’t hold teams to zero, but it has more flexibility to play against dynamic teams yet to come. I love it, and we’ve seen it hit or miss over the last 7 weeks, but certainly see the signs to be effective over the last month of this season and years to come. I’d like to see signs that the offense is making those same steps, but big plays are far and few between, goal line offense is not executing and the trend is down not up.

As the article says 7-0 is as good as we could hope for at this point in the season. I’m enjoying every game, but the trends we are seeing in the Defense and the Offense are not headed the same direction. I think Seth’s charts will once again show that this week.

A couple more things of note…

A couple more things of note:

“The combined downfield distance of McNamara’s 20 completions was just 20 yards.” - 10 of 20 completions behind the line of scrimmage

Feels like our offense is based on a 2D side-scroller right now in effectiveness, but I appreciate from a play call perspective that we took 6 shots down field, even if they didn’t execute them.

“Did Michigan fans want an offense that averages under 400 yards of total offense in Big Ten play? Did they want a team that looks like it’s more concerned about winning 10 games than winning THE Game? Does Jim Harbaugh really think this is the way he’s going to get it done? Because right now he looks like he’s more interested in saving his job than saving his legacy.”

Interesting point. Can’t help but think right now that we are trying to maximize our record vs. prepare for The Game.

Outside of the first minute…

Outside of the first minute Conor was losing. That submission attempt was a Hail Mary tactic that would never work on a real contender, because he had no plan B. Conor is at his best in the first round and lost that round, maybe even when they were still on their feet.

His best chance for a victory was over, and this fight wasn’t going to end in a McGregor win regardless of the leg.

I say this saddened, because he is fun for the sport when he plays the cocky villain correctly, but this time he was out of control and to the points above, there is no need for that in UFC. Go fight the Logan boys or Pacquiao, but your days as a contender in the UFC are over and it’s sad.

More money, more problems. When did you become so Civilized Conor?

You’re not wrong. Maybe…

You’re not wrong. Maybe McGregor can create a senior tour for UFC where they just compete in exhibitions. Two judges give Poirier 10-8 round. Tonight was a ground and pound exhibition.

Best quote of the night, “Karma may not be a $&@, but it certainly is a mirror.”

As impartial as a Suns fan…

As impartial as a Suns fan can be, we beat them at full strength to start the series and while Lebron can have stretches I don’t think he can carry a game. He does look tired, and if CP3 is a go (half the 1st game and in the 4th), we have been able to handle the Lebron tornado.

Injuries to Davis - 36 games…

Injuries to Davis - 36 games and Lebron - 27 games equated to the 7 seed.

As a Suns fan in the AZ you…

As a Suns fan in the AZ you are so right on Drummond. He has had a great series, terrorizing on the boards and put backs, and without them they would not be in it. To be honest I wish we had Drummond coming off the bench for the Suns, instead of to be playing against him.

Healthy Davis is who we thought he was but Drummond has been the X-factor that has kept this a series. With CP3 looking healthy again it should be a great final 3 game.s

Any fear of losing Zeb…

Any fear of losing Zeb Jackson due to this? I’ve always liked his comfort with the ball, but we didn’t see a boost down the stretch like I was hoping.

This sucks. So sad to see…

This sucks. So sad to see that WR group of Tarik, DPJ, Collins and Oliver Martin never really dominate the way we thought they would. What might have been...

I was a kid traveling to the…

I was a kid traveling to the Grand Canyon, because we had family in town for the holidays. We stopped for gas and I ask the guy working how the game went. He tells me “just awful!” Has to be good news right? I’m talking to an AZ gas station clerk in AZ.  No such luck. He goes on to tell me he is from Michigan originally, and Bo just can’t buy it in the big game.

I say to myself, “maybe I’ll…

I say to myself, “maybe I’ll just be a college football fan.” So that it doesn’t hurt so bad and then you go and show us something like this and totally redeem Michigan football. Okay I’m excited to see #speedinspace2. Great breakdown Seth.

That’s his name! I don’t…

That’s his name! I don’t know if it fits for Wagner but I was thinking of that character watching Fury fight this weekend.

Nothing wrong with flavored…

Nothing wrong with flavored cigars but it is a bit like boxed wine. Great to start with, but as you build your palate you’ll move on.

With all the boutique outfits these days that buy tobacco from the big growers and then make their own you really can’t go wrong. So many great cigars to try compared to 25 years ago when I started in college.

My number one advice is cigarbid.com. Why pay $10-15 when you can get five quality sticks for that price?

Keep Puffing.

And 2 out of the last 3 are…

And 2 out of the last 3 are 8-5 and 9-4, so the recent trend would be towards...

Hey at least we have…

Hey at least we have baseball and basketball still.

Hard to care anymore... I’ll…

Hard to care anymore... I’ll ruin the end of the book for you. We’ll win 6 inconsequential games that we should, have to fight through 2-3 more to get the win against avg opponents at home. Lose all of our prime time match ups on the road, and then lose our bowl game for a 9-4 or 8-5 season.

Rinse and Repeat.

Born in Oak Park, but grew…

Born in Oak Park, but grew up in AZ.

About what you would expect…

About what you would expect from what you saw on the field.  42nd best QB isn’t going to get you top 5

42. SHEA PATTERSON – MICHIGAN

Preseason Rank: 13; Week 6 Rank: 47; Week 12 Rank: 49

Reaching career-high figures in 2019 across the board, Patterson didn’t quite grade as well as he did in his first season at Michigan, but he certainly brought an exciting brand of football at times. There were three games in which he averaged over 10.0 yards per pass attempt and three games with an elite passing grade above 85.0. He had too many middling passing game grades to warrant a higher spot than he has now, but he still finished his career with a career-high 3,058 passing yards and 23 touchdowns. While pressure really affected him, he was dominant from a clean pocket, even more so than the most as he finished with the 22nd-ranked passing grade from a clean pocket. He whipped out 2,618 yards and 20 passing touchdowns from a clean pocket and combined to secure another 98 first downs for the Wolverines.

And i think the captain vote…

And i think the captain vote by the players was good evidence provided.  I always wondered how a 2nd year starter QB wasn’t captain. These transfer QBs are able to become captain in Fall camp, but Shea didn’t have the heart of the team in a year plus?

Fair point and I’ll even…

Fair point and I’ll even agree to your rules however I feel that angels are one of those Christmas characters that open the door to a movie being a Christmas movie. Wonderful Life has the angel Clarence. If you recall the angels are integral to the birth story in Luke 2 and have solidified themselves on most Christmas trees because of it. Clarence in front of a Christmas tree, all of a sudden you have a Christmas classic that would not otherwise be considered. You can make the same argument for Bishops Wife. All angel movies are not Christmas just like all movies with an elf or snowman aren’t, but when set to a Christmas backdrop I think they qualify.

I agree that the ways we…

I agree that the ways we have lost in the bowls and last years OSU have a lot to do with the narrative. Also 10 wins isn’t what it used to be. Those seasons you are talking about are all 3 loss seasons. That means we lost to the two powers of the Big Ten usually and then lost our bowl. No one cares about our win/loss record to Rutgers. They care about being publicly humiliated against top ten teams and our rivals.

I feel better in that loss…

I feel better in that loss than I did in the IL, or Army or Middle Tenn wins. Way more respect for Shea. The screen passes finally showed up and really set up the great Charbonnet runs. It was a good first step. It just took too long this season to show up.

Yep a 21% chance that we don…

Yep a 21% chance that we don’t get humiliated on public tv on a national game again is what the computers are saying.

Totally agree. Remember a 10…

Totally agree. Remember a 10 win season still means a 3 loss team. Which means final ranks around 10-15 and third in the big ten east except last year. Then add an unranked 8-5 season. No Ohio state wins. No bowl wins in 3 years. Public Humiliation against every top ten team we play. I don’t understand how we can be satisfied by this. We can do better and we should demand better. This isn’t fun anymore.

All the Harbaugh apologists you are telling me this is fun going into Penn State with computers predicting we have a 21% chance of not being humiliated publicly again...

I hope we are still good at…

I hope we are still good at that. It always made it a little easier when our season in football was headed to the crapper.

Did they lose at basketball?…

Did they lose at basketball? Are they the second most winning program in football? No.

Not relevant than.

Is Army “too Clean”?  We…

Is Army “too Clean”?  We just got out hearted today. It’s not a recruiting issue.

Nothing about this article…

Nothing about this article sounded insider.  Same crap everyone on every blog is spouting. Gattis and Brown didn’t sound rattled today. They just sounded like execution isn’t where it needs to be. Maybe all that golfing this offseason instead of studying film, wasn’t what the doctor ordered for Shea. This was the #1 QB coming out of high, but kids that get a ton of pro coaching in high school often look more advanced to begin with, but their ceiling is much lower. I think that is the case of Shea. He is who he is, and it doesn’t look like we are going to get much more than that.

Even more in the second half…

Even more in the second half than the play calls was the fact we were snapping the ball under 10 secs most of the time. Is it possible That the coaching team just decided in a one score game the only way we are going to get a big play out of our def is if we do a better job resting them? I can’t find the stat but I know we lost the TOP pretty bad in the first half and came a lot closer to even by winning the second half.

I think you could make the…

I think you could make the case that internally Harbaugh said exactly that recently by not having a true OC, and we saw how that worked out.

I agree with 2 and then also…

I agree with 2 and then also other. I think there is a frustration when you aren’t paying players and have to start over every year. You find the diamonds in the rough that should be a couple years and then they leave anyway. It’s tough. I think this year took him hard with no one ready to go to the NBA and yet 3 left anyway.

I think this is what we have…

I think this is what we have all been looking for...

How crazy to win a game like…

How crazy to win a game like they did and lose the turnover battle 13-7. That was my only complaint of the night, they appeared sloppy with the ball and you saw that especially coming out of the half.

One name not mentioned above that I am beginning to get excited about - Dejulius. He just looks so comfortable out there. Got his most playing time of the season,16 mins, and appears ready to explode. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear his name called upon to be a spark plug in the tourney.

Great thread idea.  Stupid!!!

Great thread idea.  Stupid!!!

I have a different take then…

I have a different take then below. I think Johns didn’t play because somehow he hasn’t earned it in practice. With Livers out and Austin Davis a foul a minute, we couldn’t go without him the other night, but I think with Illinois so small it would have been ideal for Johns, and he just didn’t get the time, because he hasn’t earned it yet. Here is hoping he puts in the work, so he can explode on the scene in Feb/March. We are going to need him.

Interesting game as you say,…

Interesting game as you say, because you can make the argument that none of our Big 3 had a great night. I think the assumption has always been that at least one will be on, and most likely 2 make it an easy night. I’m going to give this win to the new Big 3, if only for a night Simpson, Teske and Freethrows!

We actually hit our freethrows for a night, and that is what kept a game where we were in control from buzzer to buzzer from being a nail biter.  Will it happen again? Maybe not, but that is why we have the first Big 3, so we don’t need it to happen nightly.

Preach it brotha!

Preach it brotha!

100% agree. As you outlined,…

100% agree. As you outlined, I noticed a common denominator that there were no expectations. He took over two schools that had never really had greatness and then he caught San Fran at an ultimate low.  All 3 gigs could only go up, and while he took over Michigan when we were in a low, expectations for the team never changed.  We see it with athletes that can’t play under the lights of NYC or LA. Maybe the stage is just too big.

I thought it couldn’t feel…

I thought it couldn’t feel any better after the Ohio State, but yep, this is an even deeper feeling of despair.  What an awful season, and no end in sight.

I was for 8 but with all the…

I was for 8 but with all the best players not playing might as well expand to 16 so that the best teams and their starters are playing their final games.

I’m glad you are stoked, but…

I’m glad you are stoked, but this has definitely changed how I’m planning for the event. #1 I decided not to travel to the bowl though I have contacts with chick-fil-a and couldn’t have gotten free seats. #2 I’m not having a party just a couple family members over that watch the games with me during the season. #3 Great opportunity to see the young talent scrimmage and prepare for 2019, please don’t embarrass us by losing to a middling SEC school even if it is just a scrimmage.

How to fix? Eliminate conf championship games and establish a 16 team playoff.

I’m more in the giving mood…

I’m more in the giving mood.

Thank you Michigan fan base for caring about this team as much as you do, for posting exciting pay news on Mgoblog the second it comes out, for UFRs throughout the season, for the day that the Hail magazine arrives each year, only outdone by the first game of the football season when I could swear, “This is the year.”

We care, maybe too much, but you can’t say this fan base doesn’t care and for that I salute you all, and look forward to breaking through in 2019.  Best wishes to you and your families this Christmas.

Obviously every 5 star RB we…

Obviously every 5 star RB we’ve ever signed belongs on that list too, but I get the Gary high on that list.

Good side has been that he has always had a great attitude and been a positive role model.

Bad side you have to think of what might have been if he wasn’t injured or played a similar role as Woodley.

I think he was a special talent but he won’t go down in the annals of Michigan for anything of note. Good luck in the NFL.

Only time I watch online or…

Only time I watch online or BTN is during the tournament or if it is a national game like UofM vs. MSU in the big house.  This has been consistent over the years
