ESPN today announced six football matchups involving Big Ten teams for the 2010 season.
Without further ado, here are the game times and TV plans (not all are night games):
Sept. 11: Miami at Ohio State, ESPN, 3:40 p.m. ET
Sept. 18: Notre Dame at Michigan State, ABC, 8 p.m. ET
Oct. 2: Penn State at Iowa, ABC or ESPN or ESPN2, 8 p.m. ET
Oct. 16: Ohio State at Wisconsin, ESPN or ESPN2, 7:15 p.m. ET
Oct. 30: Ohio State at Minnesota, ABC or ESPN or ESPN2, 8 p.m. ET
Oct. 30: Michigan at Penn State, ABC or ESPN or ESPN2, 8 p.m. ET
it's a whiteout too.
Ugh.
but I love Penn State's decades old traditions ... like playing Seven Nation Army.
JoePa as a coach is a good decades old tradition as well
Woooooooosh
Well, I'm glad Penn State fans can continue to think this is a rivalry game, all while playing up how much they hate us.
Hide your beer cans, Happy Valley.
Michigan is still the biggest game on everyones schedule!
When I was there I explained that in order for it to be a rivalry both teams have to win occasionally. If one team doesn't win, that just makes them sore losers. That sure did piss them off!
I occasionally get shit now after the last 2 years, but I always come back with something like "2-in-a-decade doesn't make you superior" Again it pisses them off.
I want SO BAD to go to this game, but I'm sure tix are going to be $300+ and I'll have to sit with PSU fans. Also, I think every night game is a whiteout.
I think M wins this one. They lost too much and are going to be like the team M was last year. I'll Raback it if it's possible. Too much uncertainty among the PSU faithful for them to be a good team plus they are on the downside of their good every 5 years plan.
Tickets can be found for less than what you might think. I was able to get two tickets in '06 for $100 each on game day.
I really hope I can make it again this year, should be a good one. Nothing like hearing that loud crowd of theirs go silent in the fourth quarter....
me scared
we played at Penn State at night THIS happened...
Let's hope it's Big Will's turn to unleash havoc.
With that being said, yeah, I don't like how this game sets up, but we'll see how it goes.
always gets an automatic +1 everytime I see it
The amazing thing is that Branch knocked not one, but two, PSU QBs out of that game.
sweet, we get to deal with that bullshit.
I've only been to Beaver Stadium once, but it was a pretty cool experience. Since it's a night game, maybe I can make it up there this year. Hmmmm...
Has anyone been to PSU? I'm thinking about going this year and don't know if it's worth the 7 hour drive into hostile territory.
In general you'll be treated well. There's always the occasional asshole, but it's not Columbus.
I've been there a couple of times for Michigan games, most recently two years ago. Most PSU fans were very nice. There are nut cases as there are everywhere, but it was very different from Columbus.
State College is a cute little town to walk around if the weather is nice. Very nice stadium with incredibly strong student involvement. One little fun place to visit is the PSU ice cream store, right on campus. They make their own ice cream at the PSU dairy, and it is inexpensive and very good.
One caveat - getting in and out of State College is a major suck job. Traffic takes forever to clear. We stay in Altoona, about an hour away. Plan on getting to State College several hours early and not getting home until the wee hours.
Don't remind me about the fuckjob parking situation. To anyone else, imagine cramming 110,000 people into several large fields, then having almost ZERO traffic direction from security/police/anyone after the game and like two main paths leading out. It took me well over an hour to get out of the parking area and onto the road. Luckily, we were heading back west, which was not the case for almost every other car, so it was pretty smooth sailing back to our hotel (can't remember the name of the town but it was about 100 miles away).
Aye.
If you didn't like the RAWK in the Big House, you will be disgusted by Beaver Stadium. This school lacks any fucking tradition what-so-ever. They sold out to the Big Ten and avoid their rivals like WVU and PITT.
Penn State and their piece of shit stadium and pajama uniforms can all go straight to Hell!
Hehe, pajama uniforms, I like it.
I've been there once, but it was PSU vs. Purdue. Not exactly a Michigan game...
But I had a good experience. I tailgated with a bunch of people who were PSU fans, and they were very friendly, despite knowing that I was a Michigan fan. Beaver Stadium is out in the middle of nowhere, unlike Michigan Stadium. There's farmland, some empty fields, and then BOOM a giant stadium. The stadium gets pretty damn loud (louder than Michigan Stadium, IMO), and like I said, that was just for a day game against the Boilermakers.
I'd definitely go again, especially to see Michigan play.

Edit: this was supposed to be a joke, I guess it didn't come off that way...
It was quite the experience. As others have noted previously, Beaver Stadium is one hell of a structure, though pretty aesthetically unpleasing (seriously, the upper decks look so randomly added). Anyway, other than standard fare from students ("You suck!!" "Fuck you!" [insert joke about Michigan's record]) my brother and I were treated very well. Really, though, there isn't anything I've experienced before that prepared me for when that entire stadium literally starting rocking during a big play or third down. Holy mother of God, that place is INTENSE. That game was a 4:30 affair and it was very dark once the 2nd half hit, which was, oh, around the time we began to fall apart.
IME, one of the better venue experiences out there. Definitely worth the long drive (I'm from Grand Rapids so it was about 8 hours each way).

The way that stadium shakes is an extremely unsettling feeling, especially if you take a moment on the way into the stadium to look at the actual structure holding up those stands.
Definitely worth going, I sat in the center of the student section with my Michigan jersey and just had a few comments but nothing bad.
If you tailgate, there are a few RV's that sell Penn State Drinking Gloves...ask around
Everything you read about traffic is true. It's horrible, I would just plan on parking on the other side of campus by the frats and do the 20 min walk to the stadium.
Literally, if you park at the stadium it will take you 2 hours to get out of the parking lot and another 2 hours just to leave town. Avoid it at all costs, just hike it back to the other side of campus and hit up a hotel that night.

The comments about the traffic are probably not exactly accurate anymore. One of the big problems with traffic going west was that the main road out of town (US 322/US 220) was a two lane road for about 15 miles and was an absolute traffic nightmare. I-99 now connects through State College and avoids that stretch of two lane road. It wasn't done the last time that Michigan played there, so traffic (once you get off of campus) shouldn't be nearly as bad as it was the last time that most of the people commenting here were at Penn State.
The best place to park is actually off of Fox Hollow Road at the bottom of the hill near I-99. There isn't an exit there, which keeps a lot of people away, but there is a large field to park in that's easy to get in and out of. It's about a mile walk up to the stadium from there, but it's well worth the walk to avoid the traffic nightmare of the stadium lots, as long as you can handle managing a few back roads to get back on the interstate (Fox Hollow to Toftrees to Waddle to I-99).
I wasn't sure so I didn't say anything. They completed I-99 heading East a long time ago (2002?) and it has been so nice when I have to go out there for work. The highway literally drops you off at the stadium now.
I don't think parking will be improved though.

Yeah, they finished it a year or so ago after they got that acid rock problem under control. That portion of the road was actually done back in 2002 as well, but they had to redo a large portion of it that passes over Mount Nittany at Skytop.
Parking is probably not improved, but in my opinion, it's more of a matter of where you park and how long you're willing to walk. I'd rather walk longer and not sit in traffic for 2 hours.
Penn State's home field advantage is overrated. It hasn't been a factor in the UM-PSU series to date. The better team has won most of the time.
to every M-PSU game in State College. The game in 2006 was as loud as any I've been to. A cold, crisp evening and most PSU people were drunk as hell.
In 2006, a very plump PSU coed came up to us smoking the longest cigarette in the history of tobacco marketing. You could tell she was drunk since she was speaking with a slow slur. She had on an Alpha-Epsilon-Tau sweatshirt. She proceeded to tell us "Michigan sucks". My brother told her she was very clever but she misspelled the word "eat" on her sweatshirt. She looked down at her shirt, looked up, smiled uneasily and slithered away like Snoopy in a Charlie Brown cartoon. I am laughing my ass off typing this story in for you to enjoy.
...the 2006 game as well. Happy Valley night game = incredibly intoxicated fan base. I got plenty of "f@#" comments and the like on the way in because of my M apparel. Not so much on the way out.
In 2008 it was a day game and things were a little more civil. "Holy Toledo" from one tailgater was the best line I heard. A couple of "Ann Arbor's a Whore" taunts on the way out.
You're definitely in hostile territory, but it's nothing like Columbus.
PSU white outs are effective and tinker toy constructed Beaver Stadium is loud. Much louder than Michigan Stadium. Sorry to say, but it's true.
Hopefully Big Will does his best Alan Branch impersonation in this game. I want to see Kevin Newsome get crushed.
Penn State's quarterback situation does not look good :)
If Newsome is the guy and we go in there and destroy them. Start the young lads career off on the right path, you know?
That will be a game to watch! I love Michigan night games, home or away. I'd love to beat them again in South Rear-end this year too!
will air on ESPN2 Saturday, April 24th @2p.m. This is a must see game for any Michigan Fan. PSU Fans are certainly no reason to avoid this game. I have actually enjoyed this fan base more than any other in the Big Ten.
Boy oh boy, that is going to be a slaughter. PSU's going to get their bell rung, bad. And hopefully OSU gets upset by Miami.
At least it's not our first away game.
They have an easy beginning schedule (except for Alabama) so Michigan will be a big game for them and us. They play 8 Big Ten teams. No Purdue or Wisconsin.
who thinks rob bolden will play much at penn state?
Sit in my old seats (Section NB, Row 60) with my parents. I'll still be a Michigan student but my parents (Dad a PSU grad of '77) want me to join them in our traditional season ticket seats.
Family got the tickets when I was in 6th grade and my father wasn't exactly the most happy with my college decision.
Btw, if it matters, I'll be wearing some maize t-shirt no matter whether I sit in the student section or with my parents.
The only plus I can see to sitting amongst the sea of white-shirted folk would be rubbing it in when we restart our win streak against them.

...your good taste in schools. Definitely sit with the parents. Everyone around you will know you and they'll be shocked, shocked I tell you at your new allegiance. Think of all the crap your dad will get from his seat neighbors! Isn't that worth it in and of itself?
Anyone hear anything about what section Michigan will get? Was at '08 game and def want to go back..I'm a glutton for punishment, but think we'll do better this year..
Could have done better with my first post, but hey, you gotta start somewhere..
