247 Expects Nolan Ulizio To Start
It's behind a paywall, but that's what the article basically says.

Edit: Also appears Sam Webb is saying it too on scout.

Well I mean he's beating out other guys it's not like hes the only guy able to play the spot. I know the talent isnt devoloped there but the guy has a huge upside to his game.

This is why you were downvoted into oblivion last time. You come here and see a kid rising on the depth chart and you claim that because of his ranking at the time of his recruitment, he will never amount to anything and has no right being on the field, maybe not on the team either (becuase when you say one of those things, you're kind of saying the other too). You have no data, no facts, no proof to support your baseless opinion that no player, ever, in the history of man, has or will ever outperform their ranking as a recruit. Never ever, not in a million years, not a chance, no way no how, can't happen, won't happen, has never happened, will never happen, end of story.
Your persistence in defending your unproven opinion is, quite frankly, rude as shit and disrespectful to a young man who earned a starting position on the offensive line for the University of Michigan football team. Who are you to pass judgment on him before he's even seen the field?
The fact of the matter is that you have no idea what you're talking about and your coninued stubborn attempts at being heard only serve to make yourself look more and more unintelligent and uninformed, then when you are confronted about said baseless opinion you lash out at your critics with insults or more "facts" that don't serve any purpose at all other than to outline how indefensible your opinion is. To put it bluntly: No one else is making you look stupid, you're doing that all by yourself.

I'm just giving the people what they want. Everyone needs a Cersei. You can see elsewhere in this thread for something close to my actual opinions.

depth is a good thing! Bottom line, we're all ready football and 99.9% of us are going to pull for whatever numbers are out there, even if they're in maize jerseys.

I'm hoping that with the offseason worth of progress and increased coaching focus (because of line responsibility now being split) that he will be at least serviceable. Guess we'll find out pretty quick on Sat, because I'd say the best player on Florida's D-Line (Jefferson) is at DE.

...Ulizio's HS coach essentially said that Nolan is an athletic player with great size who will need to be molded. Our coaches initially believed Ulizio would need 3 years (redshirt + 2 seasons) to become a contributor by his redshirt junior season.
But his performance in the 2016 spring practices led the coaches to think he could realistically be a starter for Michigan by the start of his redshirt sophomore season. And that time is now upon us...

I was guessing Runyan. JBB just didn't look athletic enough. Hope Nolan has a great season.

JBB is the one he was/is battling with.

That the competition is making each of the guys work harder. Word coming out of camp heading into our first victory Saturday is that the O Line looks pretty solid. I expect them to be good starting the season and becoming very strong by B1G play. It's coming boys!
GO BLUE!!

"That the competition is making each of the guys work harder."
You know the level of discourse on a football blog is pretty low if someone feels the need to actually type this out.

I honestly don't know whether I'm more compelled to upvote (yes, funny!) or downvote (not kind!), this, so I'll just do the apathetic nothing and forget it ever happened.
August 29th, 2017 at 11:04 PM ^
You get an unabashed upvote for the use of "equivocation." But my comment was not so much about the guy who made the statement than about the level of discourse in the thread as a whole.

Not sure if anyone has ever caught him on the sideline, but Ulizio always looks engaged and amped up. Seems to have a bit of nasty streak in him and/or serious competitor. If its true that he is starting, I chalk it up to hard work, growing into his body, gels with the other guys on the line, and great coaching. Good for him. I trust the coaches.

If memory serves, Harbaugh said something similar in a recap of the recruiting class when Ulizio came in.
I'm hoping he does well. I love to see guys like this come in, work hard, and succeed.
I hope he trucks a number of Florida guys.

We pursued a grad transfer and didn't name a starting QB until game week last year.

We had 3 mediocre OL last year on the interior. Addition by subtraction.

Countless times I've read on this blog, the conventional wisdom that typically, OL are almost assured to redshirt, take a couple years to pack on the good weight, and get coached up.
So now we've got precisely this scenario unfolding, and so many are rebuking said conventional wisdom? Relax, people.
