Well, according to one of the updates linked above by Mocha Cub, "The players were alleged to have to taken part in a scheme that saw them purchase electronic products with school-issued debit cards before selling them for cash. While this practice is not uncommon in college football, the Gators’ players then went to university officials to report their cards stolen, triggering a school investigation into possible credit card fraud.  After investigation officials deemed the cards were not stolen and looked into the purchases, they found the players at fault for misusing funds given to them."

If that's true, then it looks as if the players were planning to keep the $$ from selling the goods they bought, AND having their spending accounts replenished for amounts spent after the dates that the cards were allegedly stolen?  Otherwise, why would they report their cards as stolen?  It's fraud in that the debit card companies would have eaten the loss of the $$ for purchase of the electronics.

In order of importance... 1. Callaway (starting WR and danger return man) 2. Telfort (2nd string left tackle or right tackle) The rest seem to be on the verge of a redshirt or little to no playing time.

By taking this position he proactively shields himself from critics, covering his downside for the whole season and for the UM game which UF was/is going to lose anyway. He also sends a message to future players about what behavior is unacceptable under his watch at UF. McElwain is the winner with this brilliant, and unexpected, move to suspend these players.

This benefits us, but it still provides data that reinforces my thesis that it is better to play a scrub team in the first game of the season, since there is so much time in the offseason for things to go wrong and the consequences always fall on the first game of the season.

Callaway was Florida's primary punt returner as well as their best wide receiver.  The DE Davis played in every game last year and was second string on the UF depth chart.

The other players probably wern't going to be major contributors this season--a couple are true freshmen.

The Wr with most yards on either team Is out along with defensive line rotational players... considering our largest concerns are with Secondary and OL I'd say this is pretty close to ideal from personnel matchup standpoint

Sad that players have to go through these lengths just to get paid or be financially secure. How much money are these kids hauling in for UF and the NCAA? That's why I like Harbaugh taking kids across the world and doing something.

Yeah, why are these kids that are putting in 40+ hours a week on top of school work to make millions for their University not willing to go get a minimum wage job working at McDonald's on top so they can have some spending cash!? /s

didn't keep getting arrested for marijuana possession / usage.  Pretty clear where his funds are going to.

That being said, players should be getting a salary level stipend and allowed to benefit from their image / naming rights.  Brian has made this argument a hundred times (between print and radio) and I agree with 100%

I see offshore Book set Topbet still has this game as  -3.5 Michigan, which is what it's been hovering around for weeks now.  Might want to jump on that line now if you were planning on betting on Michigan.

I am kinda curious about exactly when all of this happened because that could clear some of the talk about things being originally covered up. If these suspensions were pretty much immediately after the problems occurred, then you want to applaud Jim McElwain and give him full credit for taking action. It's not easy for a head coach to suspend players for a big game and that's why most suspensions come against cupcake teams. If Jim McElwain was trying to sneak through the Michigan game, but was just forced to act once the story leaked, then he shouldn't get much credit for that.

All this trash talking by this board has me concerned. Trash talk after the win is my motto. I am superstitious. Please, everybody knock on some wood before you go to bed. I want this win and I don't want to have to blame all of you trash talkers. It's an SEC team, we can't afford the lose.

You do realize that fans trash talking on a message board aren't the ones actually suiting up and playing the game, right?

I'm as superstitious as the next guy but come on man...
