He took a SEC punching bag and made them into Sugar Bowl Champions (which culminated in a top-10 finish).

And to his credit, Freeze coached Ole Miss to victories over a top-5 Alabama team in 2014 and 2015. The last opponent to beat 2 top-5 Alabama teams in back-to-back years was Ara Parseghian's Notre Dame in the early 70s.

So yes, he's a formidable coach.

People forget the Gene Stallings era at Alabama in the 90s. He was a beastly coach. Alabama fnished top 5 in 91 (11-1), 92 (13-0 > MNC), and 94 (12-1).

Each of the lone losses were to Florida.

But I find that stat to be more of an indictment of SEC teams (like LSU or Tennessee) who didn't win a single game from 1971 to 1981 - not unlike our pathetic stretch against Ohio State.

My point was that Freeze improved Ole Miss largely because he got far better players than Ole Miss had traditionally recruited. HIs first four recruiting classes finished 8th, 15th, 17th, and 5th on the 247 composite. And it's now become clear that he did so well in recruiting at least partly due to paying players.

But over those same four years, Old Miss finished unranked, 17th, 10th, and unranked. So by that simplistic measure, Freeze actually underperformed his talent level. That's why I theorized that he might not actually be a good coach if he doesn't pay top talent to play for him.

I'm sure Nutt borrowed his phone, a man of his character would never do that, wait he is a dirty scumbag? Never mind at least he can spend time with his kids.

It's so rare to see a pompous self-righteous ass get exactly what he deserves. Everyone knew this guy was dirty and full of shit from the jump yet Freeze actually challenged the public to prove him guilty. Now he's resigned in disgrace for reasons that run counter to his public persona. Dude's a tool.

He was going down one way or another. Interesting that this happens on OJ day. (No he didn't murder anyone people...I'm not comparing the two). I'm comparing a demise off of something that wasn't the main dirt everyone wanted to get you for.

Let's assume that the escort thing is the ONLY reason he was forced out.  That speaks volumes about the SEC culture.  Having a player confirm illegal benefits = no big deal.  But the coach embrolied in a sex scandal that provides no competitive advantage gives us the vapors, for goodness sakes.  The message is lie/cheat/steal all you want.  Just no sex stuff.  Because, in the SEC, morality is doled out on a sliding scale.

What kind of fucking idiot gets brought down over a single phone call you can immediately explain away as a misdial? Simply incredible that this is what took him down. Football coaches are dumb, guys.

High likelihood that multiple " disgraceful " things were found by Nutt's team or even the university. " Additional troubling information" according to the first release. Believe the one minute call could be easily explained or deflected.

How did they know to look for that call?!

Hopefully the full story will see the light of day.
