Summer Workouts

Submitted by umbig11 on
As many of you know, only S&C coaches can observe summer workouts, but S&C coach Kevin Tolbert is raving about four Frosh that could see the field early in 2017. Luiji Vilain, O’Mary Samuels, Nico Collins, and Jordan Anthony have been singled out. In addition, those that showed up in the spring that drew high praise are Ben Mason, Ruiz, DPJ, Black, and St. Juste. Notables left off the list were Solomon and Thomas. Both need to make some personal gains to compete early. Other than Ruiz, all the other lineman need to get bigger, stronger, and quicker. It’s hard to crack the two deep as a lineman in your first year. The coaches need to see them with the pads on in order to evaluate them further. You can probably add Robbins to the list of Fr. That will play right away. This Freshman class is very deep! Other notes: The fastest RB times still belong to Karan Higdon. The 4 WR sets are real. A lot of preparation taking place in the 7-on-7's. The addition of Scott Turner and Pep Hamilton have created some buzz regarding new route trees and schemes.

MotownGoBlue captures it perfectly downthread. People need to relax about kids who haven't even gone through their first fall drills. Even if Solomon was deemed not totally ready and was red-shirted this season, that doesn't mean he's a bust.

I don't expect that myself; I bet he gets some PT, but he's got some very capable guys ahead of him.

junior year in high school he attempted just 6 KO returns and took one 90 yards to the house. Averaged 30+ yards per touch. Senior year he attempted only 1 KO return and took it 95 yards to the house. With that body and his track speed, special teams is a great way to get him involved early. Would love to see him compete for the KO returner spot.

WR1 - Crawford WR2 - DPJ Slot - Perry Flex ... all sorts of options - Black, McDoom, Gentry, etc Some really interesting plays could come out of that. Seems, flats, slants, just a ton of new looks. Going to be an exciting year with all that speed in space.

Not too worried about Solomon, especially considering he's only been on campus for a few weeks. Everyone finds their footing at different paces, and he'll find his.

He's got the best DC in college football watching over him. Whatever potential Solomon has, Brown will unlock it.

It is like he disappeared this spring and now with TJ receiving all the pre-season hype, it gives me huge concerns about our TE depth.

on the Freshman impressing in S&C this summer. Especially Samuels. That guy looks like he's spent some time in the weight room before ever hitting AA. Definitely going to need some Freshman in the 2 deep this year, so good to see so many arriving early and others looking great this summer.

Who called into Sam this morning asking about this post as if people were freaking out and slandering Solomon? People asked umbig11 to clarify and he did; that was the extent of it. Nobody assumed he didn't have what it takes. And umbig11 is a program insider not a "thirdhand" source. Man that caller irked me, whoever you are.
