Chad Ford: Mo Wagner Made Himself a Lot of $$ Today, Moving Him into the 20s in next Mock Draft

Submitted by alum96 on

Well there is some worry about Mo going back to Germany but games like today could have him going direct to NBA.  Ford is moving him into the back third of the 1st round...where DJ already was.  I know the media tend to overreact to 1 game here or there but for those of us watching closely - despite the relative slump the past few weeks - we could see Mo's potential.  These performances just show everyone else in the national audience.  Doing it vs some NBA type athletes from Louisville also will open some eyes.

I am enjoying this run but in the back of my head I see two guys @ 6'10ish which the modern NBA is built around.  When DJ broke the press with 2 minutes left and dribbled nearly the whole length of the court it reminded me of something Webber did back in the early 90s.  He has some good handles for a big man.  Yes he needs to bulk up, "get tougher" for the NBA, yada yada but NBA drafts on potential and you can't develop size.

Ford also said last week Wilson is "50/50" on returning.  With that size, outside game, and athleticism a touch above Mo, he was the one I was more worried about but Mo is again a guy built for the NBA with his outside game.

So we might need to strike while the iron is hot here.  Insert "but but but they'd develop so much better in the NCAA than NBA" here.

Wagner ranked No. 40 in our Top 100 coming into tourney. Will be in the 20s when we update on Monday. DJ Wilson also helped himself a lot

UM’s Moritz Wagner made A LOT of $ today. Huge game v Louisville athletes big deal for scouts. Skilled, 6-11, mobile, can shoot it, just 19

I was thinking the exact same thing as Ford. If I were a team in the 20s I'd for sure take a chance on Wagner.

But I honestly think another year of development would be better for Wagner long term. I can't imagine him getting any PT in NBA. Beilein is a better coach than what he'd get in the DL.

Is Wilson a SF or PF in NBA?

in the Oklahoma State game. I sincerely think he needs to work on his defense. And I don't think DJ said he's 50-50. When asked if he was returning he said I hope so. When pressed about the NBA he said he hadn't even thought about that.

Honestly I see both of these guys as ideal NBA 4's. The both check a lot of boxes in different ways. But you have to like that both of them have all the tools to turn into really good mid-range shooters if not NBA range 3 at a high %.

They also can both handle the and pass it which is a big deal in these momevment offenses that like shoot it such as the Warrios, Hawks, Spurs, etc...

They both struggle to rebound and both have a lot of defensive struggles but there is no doubt that but they also have things to like. Mo has more sie and length while DJ able to do a better job of switching when needed and can one day become a really good pick-in-roll defender which has a ton of value.

If both come back I could see them both mid in the teens, right now I think they both go late 1st. Too many tools for teams to pass on that are already in the playoffs. Mo would not make it past the Spurs.

I think both will come back. This years draft class is historically deep. Coming bAck for one more year and both have top 10 potential. Depends on the individuals mindset, both have a chance to get picked at the end of the first round. Imo you don't leave for that. But others could argue otherwise and not necessarily be wrong.

I swear, you are some kind of massive killjoy.

He may go, he may not.

It would be delightful, however, if on the day of an epic win, if maybe we could skip this stuff. It's annoying.

I mean, I just don't see it. Both are skilled offensively, but still need some strength, and don't rebound particularly well. And Mo on defense is kind of woeful for a guy of his size and mobility. One more season to grow and both could be top half of the first round type guys.

guys to get seasoning unless they are obvious lottery talents. Hacks like Ford haven't caught up to that apparently. I posted a pretty thorough study I created/researched on the benefit of staying in school if you aren't absolutely positively guaranteed to be a first rounder. The evidence was strong that you didn't want to be a 2nd rounder non-senior.

Was unsurprised to hear on a recent telecast that the NBA has caught on to what I was getting at in my study.

I have a ton of confidence in his basketball future, no matter what he does.

He clearly *loves* the game and loves working at it.

I think he's fine no matter what he does, I just hope he loves college life and wants to stay another year.

I also do think he'd benefit from another year. He's draftable, sure, but he needs another year of physical development so he can not only be on a team but also play for a team. Also, if it's a risk, you want to avoid high second round if you can - it's not a great place for non-seniors, as I mention above.

He could more than hang in euro ball, if a team wanted to draft him and stash him there - hope he prefers FUCKING AWESOME COLLEGE BASKETBALL

The NHL drafts you anytime after you are 18, anywhere in the world you may be. Then, they leave you there and call you when they feel you are ready - not when you think you are ready.
