It *is* nice, but it would be even nicer if the resources (such as they are) were distributed among a bunch of disadvantaged superfans and not just a few (or one). I felt the same way when all the Larry Prout threads were popping up here.

I understand what you're saying. I'm not the biggest fan of the "nice thing done for person in a difficult situation" sports highlight of the month, but I don't begrudge them and I understand why people do it.
Fixing the problems of the whole world is pretty hard. And nobody can spread their compassion to all people who need it, even just people suffering from one disease or challenge.
But it is possible to invest in one person, to make their life better, to ease, even if briefly, the burdens they live under. It is impossible to help everyone, but it is possible to help one person.
And so people do that.
I suspect the answer is not to dilute the help from a substantial effort for one person down to a token for a lot of people, but rather to encourage more people to produce a substantial effort for other, individual people. YMMV.
EDIT: Perhaps a good recent example. News has emerged that Mike Ilitch quietly paid the rent for Rosa Parks for 10 years after she was attacked in her home. I doubt Rosa Parks was the only person who needed rent help (though she obviously is a unique person in our nation's history and deserved better than to scrounge for rent money), but I don't think that Ilitch's money would have been better served helping 100 people save $10 per month on their rent rather than just Rosa Parks for hers.

I think he and Kyrie Irving are just trolling the media given the nature of everything at the moment.
It's working too.

No idea the all star games were this weekend.
This stuff has fallen so far off the face of the planet.

I find competitive table tennis fascinating and would watch a good match over the NBA all-star game easily.
And, in fact, I did watch more table tennis than basketball during the Olympics this year, despite the rather disparate levels of coverage.

This is not to say that I'm one of those NBA haters that builds a straw man of how the game was played 15 years ago and then gripes about it. I think the NBA is in a pretty good spot right now, even if not quite as compelling as, say, two years ago.

Aside from the recent story, courtesy of Kevin McHale, reminding us of just how great Bird was - by telling the opposing team the manner he would beat them on the game's last play and instantly when the ball left his hand, look at their bench and say "I told you,so" and then continue to head to the lockers, your reminder of what he would have done is probably true.
I do recall it was his habit at the all-star games, just prior to the three point contest, he would join the other contestants and ask, "Who's playing for second?" Some people have that quality where they just aren't going to be called for thie confidence.

Certainly not Jim Dolan, unless it was convenient for him to do so for some reason.
Shocked there isn't a "Jimmy Dolan - Please Make Sure This Sign Never Attends A Knicks Game" sign out there.
