Adrian Payne, and his "friendship" with a child fighting cancer... at a very convenient time for his image.

This was a well established e-fact around here last year (maybe the year before, IDK). It was almost immediatley after he and Appling allegedly raped that girl in their room.
February 14th, 2017 at 9:54 PM ^
Did they find appling a sick kid too?
February 14th, 2017 at 3:40 PM ^
It seems like they are taking very strong action to compensate for letting these crimes/misdeeds go ignored and fester for so long. The story with the doctor sounds like it had been going on for a while.
February 14th, 2017 at 3:41 PM ^
Swift action? These rumors have been out there for 2 weeks and they're just now suspending the guy. He was rumored to have been taken out of a team meeting last week in handcuffs.
I don't necessarily believe all of the rumors. But if I'm hearing them, the AD has definitely heard them...well before me.

Collective bargaining? The MSU coaching staff isn't part of the UAW, are they? There isn't any collective bargaining here.
I'm pretty sure he's a contract employee. Most contracts do specify that the contract can be terminated at any time for cause.
I'm also pretty sure that blocking or witholding information from a TitleIX investigation would be plenty reason.
February 14th, 2017 at 3:48 PM ^
That is on the heels of the disclosure of an apparent 20-year potential coverup of the gymnastics doctor being a sexual predator, so, yea, good job of getting in front of this one.
February 14th, 2017 at 6:46 PM ^
and will always go unanswered, how swift would that response be if they didn't have a huge lawsuit with Dr. Nasser hanging over their heads.
February 14th, 2017 at 3:44 PM ^
You feel badly for an AD that has systematically covered up rape and sexual abuse for years? Really?
I do not. Not even a little bit.

February 14th, 2017 at 6:27 PM ^
Maybe, but I honestly don't see a lot of Sparty's out defending this guy or the situation. What I've heard from most Sparty's is shock/anger about Nasser (but waiting until the multiple investigations get the full story out about how this guy was able to stay so long and do so much harm), immense dissatisfaction with Hollis (approaching DB levels), and the opinion of "if these players/coach commited or helped cover up sexual assault, fuck them, good riddance"
February 14th, 2017 at 7:10 PM ^
in terms of how invested fans are in them. Substitute Izzo for Blackwell and the mood at MSU would be a lot different.
February 14th, 2017 at 7:39 PM ^
The direct comparison would be Sandusky/Blackwell, but even then it's a stretch. And you're assuming Mike Dantonio escapes this thing unscathed, which is not a foregone conclusion.
February 14th, 2017 at 9:26 PM ^
He's the guy being accused (or so we think) of attempting a coverup.
February 15th, 2017 at 12:52 PM ^
I do see your point.
February 15th, 2017 at 9:26 AM ^
with a failure to monitor by NCAA (at most) if there is no proof that he knew of the situation. If this is a one off, then I don't see this as a program killer. It will hurt if the program if they lose some of their top talent, but I wouldn't think of that as a real blow to the program considering how much the lives of the victims and alleged plaintiffs. If there is proof of other coverups in the football program or other programs, then this could go bad for MSU.
February 15th, 2017 at 12:51 PM ^
Yeah, I think no matter the legal outcome, this will leave a lasting mark on Mike's legacy there. At the very least. He should have jumped ship after last season, but I think his pride kept him there. I can respek that, but I don't feel bad for Mike D.
February 14th, 2017 at 3:50 PM ^
I might feel sympathy for ordinary MSU students/faculty, but the athletic department? They're the guilty party.
February 14th, 2017 at 4:05 PM ^
As much as I dislike MSU, I feel badly for their whole athletic department.
May I ask why? I'm not saying that from a rivalry standpoint. This is looking like a Baylor situation. I feel angry at their athletic department more than anything.
February 14th, 2017 at 4:10 PM ^
Yeah, it appears my sarcasm may be a little too subtle for some today. I thought when I added "except Izzo. He's an asshole." that people might catch it. He has plenty of negatives, but he's not generally considered an asshole.
Sometimes it's easier to just spit out a sarcastic comment instead of delving too deep into this type of shit. When I do, I get a little riled up. Probably should just avoid comment.
I've generally been lumping the MSU AD in with the PSU AD lately. They knew they had a predator on their hands with the Nassar situation. There's no way he was doing what he did and they didn't know about it. There's too much smoke there.
I hope the whole athletic department burns to the fucking ground. They covered up for Nassar. They covered up for Appling and Payne.
Hollis, Izzo, Blackwell and Dantonio (and the gymnastics coach) all need to be hit with the show cause penalty. Fuck them.
February 14th, 2017 at 3:32 PM ^
This would seem to lend credence to the theory that some Detroit kids are involved. Either way, incredibly fucked up if (big if) he withheld information/failed to report a crime.
February 14th, 2017 at 3:37 PM ^
Corley and Vance were names that kept coming up, Thompson also a King kid. Corley never struck me as a bad apple, but I guess all of this came somewhat out of the blue. This will be very interesting to watch as it unfolds.
February 14th, 2017 at 3:46 PM ^
Thompson isn't a name that has been rumored.
The third name I have heard is not a kid from King, but his name is actually King.
February 14th, 2017 at 3:58 PM ^
Right, I simply said that he also attended King.
That kid is Josh King, the 4star DE from Chicago the Jabrill put in the spin cycle last year. We were after him for a while, but he actually did seem flaky in HS.
February 14th, 2017 at 3:58 PM ^
until they are named by public officials. If it turns out the the rumored names are wrong or that the victim has lied (unlikely but possible as in Duke Lacrosse situation) - then we are smearing their names and reputations for no reason.
February 14th, 2017 at 5:06 PM ^
Not attacking you, but I never understood this. This is a message board, not the New York Times. We aren't smearing their names or reporting news. People get smeared on here and post inaccurate stuff here every day. I don't understand why people have to tiptoe around rumors on a message board unless it reaches a point where people start acting like douches.
Their names have been mentioned as rumored to be involved. No one is saying they did anything right now.
