The point is that his job is to make an educated guess about where recruits interested in Michigan will decide to go to school. All Sam gave you was "flowing of information," why are you complaining about it? He basically said 'This is what I think Najee will do and this is why I think that. I don't know for sure though and haven't heard anything directly from him.' What else is he supposed to say? Like, if he said "I don't know for sure so I'm not going to give you any indication at all about what I know or what he might do," wouldn't people complain about that too?

He had plenty of information, including some directly from the Michigan coaching staff. So in the future Sam and other insiders should only talk about prospects they speak to directly, plus only share the info specifically gathered from their conversations with the prospects? That's what you want?

You're just hating on Sam for no reason. You probably don't even know what he actually said.

It's not a cop-out. With Sam, projections are often a "gun to your head, pick one." Decision. When he clarified in the same article that it's not a gut feeling and it's not based on any concrete info, you understand he's just guessing. He has no idea, just like nobody else had any idea. All he can do is report based on what he hears. You can't bash a guy who does that and says "I haven't heard anything but if I had to guess, I'd say he goes to Michigan."

Are you serious? He didn't give us "his word" that Harris was coming. He said he thought he would. I have NEVER heard him say anyting was a certainty for any recruit. He will say things like "gut feeling" or "very surprised if he doesn't".

Jeez, let it go. We all are disappointed. And many of us got our hopes up. I'd rather be missing out on the #1 player than not being in the mix. Getting Top 10-20 type players will be a great step forward for the program.

Disclaimer: Yeah, yeah, yeah - I know some of you "never believed it for a minute". But very few didn't at least have a tiny piece of them thinkng there was always a punchrs chance!

PS - Please provide a more reliable source that Sam because I enjoy CASUALLY following recruiting and wonder who you think is better?

Jokes on you, Ronnie. I don't pay for his stuff, I sit here and read you bashing on someone who just doesn't deserve it. However I have seen the articles that you constantly bitch about and they never say at all that he KNOWS Harris is coming. He said based on the info he has he thinks Harris is Blue. But he got one of the biggest mystery recruits ever wrong and you find the time between your dead end job and your pornhub searches to bitch on LITERALLY every thread about someone who has a job and does it better than basically anyone in the business. But go ahead, Ronnie, I bet you could crush it at the recruiting game with your personal skills. Just so we're clear too... that last part was sarcasm. I'm positive you haven't left your basement in years.

In this instance (and it's not the first time) Sam did more than "give news" - he gave "gut feelings"...which are not in fact news, but are his attempts to demonstrate that he alone has a certain level of access that make his posts worth paying for.

So, bash away, mock away; he's doing this for a living and he made the wrong call on this. I'd go so far as to say it's virtually mandatory to point out when someone making their living off of covering Michigan athletics is dead wrong in public!

EDIT: I do not pay for any of the services, so honestly what I get I get from Mgoblog & twitter. If Sam did not in fact say "gut feeling" it was reported that way by others. He certainly did say it was his belief that Harris was going Blue. I assume much of his "access" is due to being close to staff, perhaps especially Wheatley Sr, and it could be that rumors of Wheatley to WMU may in fact have been the final piece in Najee's decision. Despite Sam saying he had "No knowledge" of any talks...

We'll likely never know. I personally have less faith in both Crootin experts and in 538.com after the past couple months!

See, this is the sort of  stuff we could do without in these threads, so I would strongly discourage similar replies for a lot of reasons basically (your points and account being among them, if you're not careful with what you say / how you say it). That goes as a general warning to everyone. I get that people may be disappointed, but if you are afraid you may handle it poorly, take the safer route and do not post your reaction here.

This is my only objection to your great site. Hoping Harris doesn't do well isn't the smartest or nicest reaction to his decision, but threatening those who post comments that you find objectionable with having their account deleted, when those comments were only a non-profane statement of feeling and didn't wish anyone any physical harm, isn't a good look. Censorship should rarely be an option, and should be reserved for only the most egregious behavior. In most cases, like this one, the blog itself can adequately do the policing. This guy got negged to a level commensurate with what he said. I don't think the threat was necessary. Am I now in danger of losing my account for being critical?

The comment you're referencing wasn't just critical, though. It was childish, stupid, and somewhat inflammatory. Telling an 18 year old kid to "suck it" isn't something we need on this site. Anyone who would post something like that has earned whatever censorship they receive, IMO.

A) It's not my site. I am just a dude working gratis.

B) I reserve Bolivia for egregious behavior. Clearly, not every expression of disappointment is going to get treated that way, just the especially shitty ones. The comment above is just normal shitty and I leave it as an example of what is not needed here.

C) In leaving it, I simply advise that such comments subject you to scrutiny up to and including Boliva.

Childish comment, perhaps. Perhaps authored by a 15 year old?.. It was a harmless, innocuous comment.

Now if you want to talk about some comments that cross politics lines which is a direct violation of site rules, I can easily dig up a handful of posts/posters I would love to see Bolivia'd.

Somewhat META: Agree 100% with you. Seemed like a ridiculous threat. Annoys me to no end that the people who run this site want to police so heavily but aren't willing to take the damn money that has been offered many times to upgrade. I love the site and I appreciate it for what it is but either act like a business or don't. A business must continually improve and provide value in order to compete and they sure as hell shouldn't make threats to the very people who keep it running except in cases where that person actually is a threat to undermine the operation.

Again. Because of the fans and media. If people weren't looking for the slightest hint of his destination, overreacting to the slightest moves, or stalking airports in this case... he would have successfully kept his process and his decision quiet. He would have simply shown up at his school of choice silently and nobody would have known until they made it known. It was more drama than ever because we (the fans) and the media refused to accept and respect the wishes of the recruit.

When you are the #1-ranked recruit, you're going to attract attention.  And you will attract all the more when you publicly commit to a school and then play coy afterward, refusing to state whether your commitment is firm.

The way to get people off his back - if he actually wanted that - was to just say "Yes, my commitment is firm."

Why should he say that if his committment isn't firm?  He was entertaining Michigan for a reason - and gave us solid thought.  For some reason he decided to stick with Bama.

Disappointing as it is, good luck to him breaking through that depth chart for a year of primary back carries before his third year in college.  Doubt he'll see the field next year, and will probably split carries with others as a sophomore.  He'll probably be the #1 back as a junior, then go pro, which is what he wants to do.

Who knows?  Maybe he saw the same competition here, and decided to stick with the obvious playoff team for the next couple of years rather than try his luck with M's new OL?
