Left over from the Jerry Kill regime, but Minnesota definitely tries to hit hard. I noticed a number of borderline hits in the Oregon State game at the beginning of the season, just part of their culture.

I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't keep hitting guys in the head.

Oh stop with the holier than thou attitude. To this day, a police report has not been released. The day that the EOAA report came out, the players immediately reversed their position.

Your teammates are your brothers, so I can't fault them for taking their word for what happened especially when no charges were filed and no police report made public. They appropriately and promptly changed course once they were given some facts.

Not disagreeing with that. I just can't get on board with your "I hope they can't sleep at night". You tend to give the people closest to you and consider family the benefit of the doubt, especially when they are crying that they are being falsely accused. Once the report came out, the players seemed to realize that they had been lied to.

Good for the Minnesota administration for not backing down though. Claeys should have just kept his mouth shut.

Because there was no report to read.

The EOAA report wasn't supposed to be done for months. A draft was leaked to a local news station. The public, administration, and the players all found out at the same time. They ended the boycott that same day.

I personally think what the players did was extremely foolish, but people are making it seem like they had all of this information when they decided to boycott. Again it was foolish, but I'm not going to shit on some college students for sticking up for what they thought was right, however misguided it was.

I have no idea why Les is sitting out the sidelines this year, unless he hasn't seen an offer he likes -- meaning, he hasn't seen an offer, period.

Minnie should bring in the Mad Hatter, and of course, install natural turf.

would be a great hire for them.  Certainly an upgrade.

Some will say he never won anything big at Rutgers.  But before he arrived Rutgers had been very, very bad since...1870.

He made them a bowl qualifier every year.  That  is impressive for Rutgers.  Their facilities at that time were terrible (still near the bottom of the Big Ten now).  They were a harder a sell to recruits than Tulane.

OTOH, he is still a Jersey guy and it is not clear that he would be a good cultural fit 'for Minnesota nice.'

Saban is probably not the best example as he was a long time college head coach (MSU, LSU) before heading to the NFL/Dolphins as a head coach.  Ryan has no college head coaching experience that I know of.

You're right, unfortunately. His brand has been tarnished by the end of his NFL stint, but Kelly would be a terrific hire for Minnesota.

Problem is, he will appear to be a terrific hire for someone else, too, and he knows it. Bad seasons at Auburn, Tennessee, UCLA, Florida, or Texas A&M could all create openings that he would be a serious candidate for, and even a place like Notre Dame might decide he's worth a shot. Minnesota simply doesn't offer the program strength, prestige, or money that those places do.

I don't think there's any scenario in which he is persuaded to coach a B1G team, except perhaps if Urban Meyer decides to go to the NFL.

I heard Meyer, Franklin, and Smart we're all getting tired of their ADs and were looking for a change in scenery. All are thinking of looking into the Minnesota job!

He should have handled the player boycott before it ever became a thing.  Coming out in support of rapists (or whatever) is not good or smart.

Bunch of guys ran a train on a girl who was completely blitzed and video taped it.  Hard to believe anyone would consent to that, but even if it was consensual (did she give permission to be filmed?)  that's not who you want representing your univeristy.  I wouldn't want a guy who supports that sort of behavior coaching my sons.

But to your point, they legally may not have been rapists.

Obviously no idea if he is either interested in college ball or Minnesota. The thought of Kelly in the Big Ten is both thrilling and terrifying.

Minnesota probably fires their coach for the way he handled the player boycott situation and OSU is rumored to be interested in hirng a coach who rumor says was let go cause of possible player abuse.

Can we not categorize this as "giving in to the PC crowd"?

Ten Minnesota football players are under investigation for gang-raping a woman. When those ten players were disciplined pending the investigation, other Minnesota football players said they were boycotting football activities. In response, Tracy Claeys said he has "never been more proud of our kids" and that he "supports their effort to make a better world."

This isn't about people being overly sensitive and other people having to watch what they say lest they offend some fragile flower. This is literally about whether gang rape is worthy of investigation and punishment.
