Michigan graduate.
Hoping he can find a good playing situation going forward.

I wouldn't call him soft, but there's a gray area between being soft and being nasty. Say what you want about the effectiveness of Harbaugh's OL, but I think they play with intensity. I don't think Dawson ever fit that description.

That 2013 OL class is painful to go back and look at. Kugler is the only one left and still has yet to make an impact. Dawson, Kyle Bosch, Chris Fox, and Logan Tuley-Tillman are all gone now. Thanks Funk!

I don't think Funk was a Michigan-caliber offensive line coach, but I really don't fault his recruiting. Bosch and Tuley-Tillman had off-the-field issues, Fox got hurt at the end of his senior season and never really recovered (side note: that's why I'm afraid for Newsome), Kugler has had recurring shoulder problems, and Dawson is what he is. You're never going to get 100% right, but Bosch, Tuley-Tillman, and Fox probably had the highest upside, and the reasons they failed were rather unpredictable. That 2013 OL class is just really crappy luck, IMO.

Definitely some bad luck there, compounded by things like Newsome's injury and losing out on Devery Hamilton and Isaiah Wilson. The OL is in need of some Graham Glasgow-level gems in hiding.

Best of luck to Big Dave.
You just never can tell for certain if great play at HS level will translate to Collegiate Level. I knew something was off after watching him in his first couple of Spring Games...slow footed and didn't get much push. As I recall, he was ambivalent about committing to Michigan....that's often an inauspicious sign.
Hard to evaluate head and heart.
He got his degree and that is an achievement. All the best to him.
G'day, God Bless and Go Blue!

I may have missed or just can't remember the news about his personal life issues that some people on here are talking about. Though maybe that somehow played a role in his lack of development as a football player. You never know sometimes how a person is handling certain issues on the inside. I wish him good luck.

I was hoping he'd move to DT, practice all spring and summer and fall at the position and give us some snaps on defense with Dwumfour as a backup behind Mone and Hurst.

It is weird how many people are pointing out that he wasn't going to play.
Some people almost seem happy about this? (I'm not saying you should be sad about it, lol). Just weird is all.
I don't understand why the first reaction is always to share what little impact the departing player has on the future - and once that's been discussed, why the dead horse is beat. It's like we're trying to make ourselves feel better but we all know that's not the case because he truly wasn't going to have much of an impact next year. Again, weird.
