Harbaugh: Speight NOT out for the season (UPDATE 7:51pm)
Says it's a game-time decision but the reports of him being out for the reason are simply incorrect.
Just said this now on the Inside Michigan Football radio show.
I WANT TO BELIEVE
Harbaugh said Speight will be out of practice a "couple days" this week and "we'll see"

Harbaugh says any report saying Speight is out for the season is incorrect.
— Nick Baumgardner (@nickbaumgardner) November 15, 2016
UPDATE: Speight just retweeted the above the tweet from NB that he is not out for the season. For old folks, a retweet is basically an endorsement in cases like these.

Tell Bo that. I know the committee is not the same as the AD's of the big ten but with two equal teams an injury could be the deciding factor.

so he'll be back ahead of schedule.

I could be wrong about this, but on the surface, this sounds like a tactical thing to say so that there will be some uncertainty out there in football land, but part of me - perhaps vainly - wants to believe that it is possible. I suppose we'll see, but I have to think that his prospects for being in the game against Indiana would have to be fairly slim right now even if Speight was available.

This. Coachspeak is coachspeak, and that shoulder can't possibly be a day-to-day proposition.
Guarantee IU and OSU are preparing for O'Korn.

So that's what we're calling it now.
When I was in school we called it a hook up or f*ck buddy.

And even then, Speight will probably not be 100%.

META: this is a reasonably significant issue for the top guys on the blog, and Brian will doubtlessly address this at some point this week. He reported this based on a source today, and it has been indirectly contradicted by Harbaugh himself, with a hint of contradiction from Speight.
It's been radio silence on twitter since this has come out; I suspect Brian and possibly others are pursuing sources to either confirm their own report or retract it.

My guess is he has an ac joint separation which involves the collarbone without breaking it and that might explain JH's comment that its a game time decision. Those injuries heal at different rates depending on the degree.
November 14th, 2016 at 9:26 PM ^
As someone who has suffered an AC separation, a clavicular fracture, at least in my case, is PREFERABLE.

Who throws a better deep ball between OKorn and Morris ?
November 14th, 2016 at 10:09 PM ^
I feel like O'Korn at 100% is a better option than Speight at 50-60% even if this isn't b/s.
But that's just me.
O'Korn is not Bellomy.

I'm definitely worried, but at least an injury could explain why Speight was so off last game. No clear consensus on when the injury happened, but I'd feel a lot better knowing it was early in the game and was the reason for the bad throws. The alternative explanation, that Speight lost his confidence and was off because of that, is much more ominous for our future.
November 14th, 2016 at 10:23 PM ^
so I checked http://mgovideo.com/. Didn't find anything prior to Speight's first big miss (overthrow of Darboh on the first drive). Checked the end of the Maryland game and there's nothing there either.
I guess the alternative explanation is that Speight got rattled by the night game atmosphere? As much as I hate night games, Michigan's AD should just bite the bullet and make them a regular staple of the schedule. Can't hurt, and it might help our QBs get accustomed to that sort of atmosphere.

Brian was making light of OSU's excuse for losing at PSU by saying that home field advantage is worth 40 points. It's obviously not worth 40 points but as MIchigan just found out, it is significantly more difficult to play on the road at night when the home fan base has been tailgating all day and is amped to the max especially in massive B1G venues. Hopefully Michigan gets with the times and agrees to 1-2 night games per year.
November 14th, 2016 at 11:55 PM ^
Both Iowa and Penn State won big games this year at night - against Michigan and Ohio State repectively - that they would not have won during the day.
A night game is a distinct advantage (we ourselves are undefeated at night), and we should have more of them against major opponents.
Certainly Notre Dame at least, should never see daylight again at Michigan Stadium.
November 15th, 2016 at 11:05 AM ^
You seriously think you can say neither team would have won during the day? What on earth are you basing that on?
Any actual night game advantage should be pretty easily confirmable via statistics, though I can't find anyone who's checked the numbers so far.
November 15th, 2016 at 5:21 PM ^
That is exactly what I am saying.
November 19th, 2016 at 1:31 PM ^
100%. Night games on the road are a bitch.

when he came off the field after the second to last series of the game they were looking at his shoulder on the sideline. There was something bothering him then and the last play of the game was just icing on the cake.

Isn't the AC joint what took Henne down his senior season? I'd rather have O'korn take the reigns than have Wilton at a really diminished capacity.
November 14th, 2016 at 10:45 PM ^
Wasn't Henne's injury to his throwing shoulder?

and while semantics is in play with regards to 'season' I'm pretty sure Brian isn't going to put something on the front page that says Speight is out for the season unless he's double and triple checked sources and is 99% sure what he's going to post is legit.
