I only like our team's "every week is championship week" if they actually hold serve mentally in rivalry games.
We are 0 for 3 in terms of mental edge in rivalry games under Harbaugh. Some games are more important than others. Kind of sick of Harbaugh diminishing rivalries that make college football so great.
That said, very, very impressed with our offense (especially our pass game) and happy with this win! Game was not as close as the score, and sometimes championship teams don't look their best on the road against garbage teams. The real championship teams are able to push through despite an off day!
GO BLUE!

We lost from the way people are acting. Yes, it got a little too close for comfort at the end, but that was a well played rivalry game for both teams, and Michigan did what it had to do to win on the road. We can't win by 40 every game just because you think we're capable of that. Get a grip is right.
October 29th, 2016 at 4:08 PM ^
Harbaugh has set the bar high. He preaches high expectations and now we all have them. Not a bad thing, as long as we can appreciate the win.

"that was a well played rivalry game for both teams"
No. That's why people are pissed. Michigan played well in the first half and for some reason we'll probably never know took a shit on the field in the second half.
Yes, we won, but if we have that sort of piss poor effort in the big games at the end of the season it will kill us.

Seemed like the effort was lacking big time. I wonder how much this team suffers from PTSD. I still have the sense that something bad is going to happen. I wonder if the players carry that at all.
October 29th, 2016 at 4:18 PM ^
Yeah I don't know. I felt a lack of energy from the defense in the 4th quarter. Maybe all the flags and stoppage of play was part of the reason? Regardless, it was painful watching us keep Sparty in the game till the very end

If state can beat us 29-6, we can do better than 12-10. or 32-23. this team needs work.

Who in your opinon looks like a #2 team? Clemson, which needed a missed chip-shot FG to escape last week at home?

OSU is in a far closer game, at home, with Northwestern at halftime than we were against MSU.
We had a shitty final 5 minutes. Otherwise, we dominated. Just need to play a full four quarters.

respect for playing for 60 minutes. Only against Michigan can they play that hard and well.
There was a lot of holding not called on MSU's offensive line in 2nd half, but MSU still played good game, never quit, (though I don't get them going for 2 ). A win over MSU on the home field, without further injuries, was probably most important thing, but we looked a bit flat in the second half. While that is unusal for this Michigan team, we still won the game taking Sparty's best shot. At the end of the day we are 8 and 0. They are 2 and 6.

Thanks that we're good enough to mail it in the second half vs State and still win by 9. Even Alabama has games like this. On to the next one
October 29th, 2016 at 4:01 PM ^
Maybe it's just me.
October 29th, 2016 at 4:09 PM ^
I thought so too. We were making some flat-footed "cuts" out there that never actually changed the player's direction.
Or maybe not, who knows?
Irrelevant, no more grass the rest of the year and into January. (Unless the Rose Bowl.)

I wonder how much field conditions were a factor. This was our first (and I think only) game on grass this regular season. We certainly were sloppier tackling than usual, and some of that can come from having poor footing and not being able to cleanly propel yourself forward. Some guys looked a hair less explosive running out there as well. A win is a win, at any rate.
October 29th, 2016 at 4:03 PM ^
The best part of this for me came right at the end as Peppers ran it back for two. I was actually on the phone with my mother at that moment, and there it was, two Michigan alums across generations on the phone laughing at Michigan State. I think that is as it should be for family moments.
October 29th, 2016 at 4:05 PM ^
MSU threw up the white flag at the turn of the 4th quarter, and UM pretty much decided "oh, hey, no big deal."
Not great. Should have been more than a 9-point win. Far too much in question in garbage time.
October 29th, 2016 at 4:05 PM ^
I get that it was a rivalry game but that 2nd half was ass. Morris does not need to be on the field for a HUGE 3rd down. Way too many big plays given up. Offense went ghost. I think I made a few diamonds during that half...
October 29th, 2016 at 4:12 PM ^
I love the diversity of the Harbaugh offense, but sometimes we get a little too cute at key moments for our own good.
October 29th, 2016 at 4:19 PM ^
You don't have to run eveything you practice. Just run Smith or Higdon up the gut and move on.
Still, you have to credit that McDowell make a hell of a play and tossed Cole out his way.
October 29th, 2016 at 4:36 PM ^
Yeah, the Peppers plays in particular are becoming too predictable. We were doing fine with Speight in and didn't need to pull him at all.
October 29th, 2016 at 7:44 PM ^
Yeah except for that whole td thing.

But breaking a curse isn't easy. We won. that's all that matters. Now we go take out our frustratinos on Maryland. In January, when state is at home watching us play, this will be rear view mirror road kill.

But it hasn't been a dogfight every year. You only have to look as recently as 2013 and 2014 to see that.
October 29th, 2016 at 4:21 PM ^
I'm with you, bro. I told my friends this was the most unsatisfying, unfulfilling win against Sparty. MSU has a bunch of positive takeaways from this game...and THAT pisses me off. No doubt they'll have way more confidence going forward. So fuck. We won. But FUCK!
October 29th, 2016 at 5:15 PM ^
There's after all that we have been through in the last 10 years, if you people can't appreciate this team and what they are accomplish in this season then I dint see how you can continue to watch college football, because you will be totally miserable for the rest of your life.
Wheres the Tylenol?

against Illinois was real, expect OSU and PSU to be spectacular.
You do have a fighting chance against Rutgers tho.
