Michigan State Snowflakes: General Observations

This will be the repository for your hot takes which defy neat categorization for our game versus Michigan State.

I only like our team's "every week is championship week" if they actually hold serve mentally in rivalry games.

We are 0 for 3 in terms of mental edge in rivalry games under Harbaugh. Some games are more important than others. Kind of sick of Harbaugh diminishing rivalries that make college football so great.

That said, very, very impressed with our offense (especially our pass game) and happy with this win! Game was not as close as the score, and sometimes championship teams don't look their best on the road against garbage teams. The real championship teams are able to push through despite an off day!

We lost from the way people are acting. Yes, it got a little too close for comfort at the end, but that was a well played rivalry game for both teams, and Michigan did what it had to do to win on the road. We can't win by 40 every game just because you think we're capable of that. Get a grip is right.

"that was a well played rivalry game for both teams"

No.  That's why people are pissed.  Michigan played well in the first half and for some reason we'll probably never know took a shit on the field in the second half.

Yes, we won, but if we have that sort of piss poor effort in the big games at the end of the season it will kill us.

I agree. I'm mad for the same reason you are-the possibility of playing badly in the future because of this game. Wait, what?

No, the people that are pissed are pissed because they lack perspective and are never pleased. We beat a rival in the road after losing 7 of the last eight. If you can't enjoy an ugly win over a rival, I do t know what to tell you. Get a new hobby, because you are going to spend too much if your life disappointed.

Seemed like the effort was lacking big time. I wonder how much this team suffers from PTSD. I still have the sense that something bad is going to happen. I wonder if the players carry that at all.

Well, we didn't at all look like a #2 team. Totally got outcoached and outplayed in the 2nd half. Glad we won, but incredibly disappointed with the yards and points given up by the D. Hope this is an anomaly

What happens if that version of Michigan plays the versio of Ohio State that lost to PSU? Will they still wipe our asses? And are they wiping our asses because we forgot to after we took a shit?

A win is a win, wasn't great offense or defense. I could complain, I could question, I'm not going to. I'm going to flush that shitty taste out of my mouth from last year with tons of alcohol!

respect for playing for 60 minutes.  Only against Michigan can they play that hard and well.

There was a lot of holding not called on MSU's offensive line in 2nd half, but MSU still played good game, never quit, (though I don't get them going for 2 ).    A win over MSU on the home field, without further injuries, was probably most important thing, but we looked a bit flat in the second half.  While that is unusal  for this Michigan team, we still won the game taking Sparty's best shot.  At the end of the day we are 8 and 0.   They are 2 and 6.

Thanks  that we're good enough to mail it in the second half vs State and still win by 9. Even Alabama has games like this.  On to the next one

I wonder how much field conditions were a factor.  This was our first (and I think only) game on grass this regular season.  We certainly were sloppier tackling than usual, and some of that can come from having poor footing and not being able to cleanly propel yourself forward.   Some guys looked a hair less explosive running out there as well.  A win is a win, at any rate.

The best part of this for me came right at the end as Peppers ran it back for two. I was actually on the phone with my mother at that moment, and there it was, two Michigan alums across generations on the phone laughing at Michigan State. I think that is as it should be for family moments.

MSU threw up the white flag at the turn of the 4th quarter, and UM pretty much decided "oh, hey, no big deal."

Not great. Should have been more than a 9-point win. Far too much in question in garbage time.

I get that it was a rivalry game but that 2nd half was ass.  Morris does not need to be on the field for a HUGE 3rd down.  Way too many big plays given up.  Offense went ghost.  I think I made a few diamonds during that half...

Down vote away but this does not make me happy. It does not instill confidence that we have flipped this rivalry around based on our #2 ranked team got taken to the wire by a 2-5 MSU team. I figured the blowout predictions would prove to be wrong yet again. This feels very unsatisfactory and make me think we are in for a war every year against Dantonio no matter what. We rolled over and died for years against Dantonio yet this team wins a squeaker against a team that will win 4 games. NEVER going to believe our hype going into an MSU game again, I'll laugh at the homers picking blowouts again.

Jesus H Christ. We are 8-0 ranked no. 2 in the nation and we just beat MSU in East Lansing.

There's after all that we have been through in the last 10 years, if you people can't appreciate this team and what they are accomplish in this season then I dint see how you can continue to watch college football, because you will be totally miserable for the rest of your life.

I thought msu putting in the backup qbs was a little bit of a white flag..but yet they continued to move the ball and score. Really disappointed with our 2nd half..no urgency. Yes we won..yes Paul is back home..but I can't help but feel like we let an inferior opponent off the hook in this one.
