True dat. I would have loved to have won by 50 but they played on the road to a rival, got punched in the mouth on the opening drive, and then called a conservative game plan after getting the lead. This is what Harbaugh does. Did they get exposed a bit and show some weaknesses? Sure, but they still won and I never had any doubt they they wouldn't pull it out. Also, if they win all of their remaining conference games by 1 point, they are going to the playoffs. Who gives a shit at this point how much they win by?

Speight doesn't throw that pick and we score that drive, MSU implodes and we win by 30+. As soon as Speight threw the pick we went ultra conservative just to survive. Michigan's offense was nearly unstoppable in the first half. MSU had no answer for the combination of speed, power, and vertical passing game. Don't kid yourself. We won. It's over. Bigger fish to fry.

2nd game this year we got punched in the face in the 1st quarter of the game only to respond with dominating cruelty the rest of the way. The mark of a good team is the response it makes when facing adversity. There's not much greater adversity than allowing that brutal opening drive against your arch rival you've lost 8 of 9 to. Real proud of the guys.

The first half was nearly a thing of beauty.  We were gaining huge chunks of yards and pretty much destroying them.  Then we let up in the second half for some unknown reason.  I just found it odd that we kept the heat on Rutgers, a team nobody really cares about and will likely never beat Michigan again, but we did not against MSU.  This may sound silly, but I think it comes down to how much Harbaugh respects the opposing coach.

First thing, comparing Rutgers to MSU is foolish.  Harbaugh didn't keep "the heat on," as much as Rutgers is just that bad, and even when Michigan had it's 2nd and 3rd string guys in they couldn't stop the offense from scoring nor gain many yards.

Secondly, I think with our defense Harbaugh felt comfortable with how the team was executing, on both sides of the ball, and knew that with the score the way it was the only way they lose the game is by turning the ball over.  So, he was concent to play conservative and play defense, clock management, and defense.  But for a second here or there there left on the clock, it work flawlessly.

Lastly, I agree with your point about respect for a coach perhaps factoring into his decision to call off the dogs a bit, but not perhaps in the way you're talking about.  He respects Dantonio as a great coach, and respects what he's done at MSU.  However, I think Harbaugh is acutely aware of the fact that Dantonio's entire schtick is the DISRESPECT, and with the game in hand the LAST thing he wanted to do is give Dantonio ammunition for subsequent years.  We've seen this tactic from Harbaugh in relation to MSU since he got here -- don't give them ANYTHING but their due so that that firey hatred is muted to some extent.  It's always going to be there -- especially as long as Dantonio is there -- but don't add to it.

LoL. Both of you are trying to read waaay too much soap opera BS into Harbaugh's coaching. He's gonna coach a game the same in terms of blowing out another team no matter his 'respect for the coach' or some matter of disrespect. If the game is in hand, he's going to put in his second and third teams to get them important practice. In fact, that's the ultimate goal - to not only win, but get 2nd and 3rd strong game reps. Its up to the other team to stop them.

Harbaugh would have ran it up on MSU to get those reps - it had nothing to do with some respect or disrespect drama (lol). He would be cheating his players. The MSU game simply never got that out of hand due to an interception, some big plays by MSU, and some bad calls (e.g., pass interference on Peppers). That's it.
