Don't forget the co-eds
September 8th, 2016 at 1:24 PM ^
regularly go to games, so I am often watching games at home and consuming moderate to heavy alcohol. However, I have a question for regular attendees. Do you drink before you go into the stadium, and if so, how much? To me, the worse feeling in the world is coming down from an alcohol buzz, and with no drinking in the stadium, I would think that drinking and then stopping would almost ruin the game. Even when I was younger and went to a lot of games, I would not drink at a tailgate if I was going to actually go to the game.
if you do, do you sneak alcohol in or just drink water and deal with the headache? Do you most often wish you hadn't?
September 8th, 2016 at 1:26 PM ^
Headaches? Only part-time drinkers get those! My issue with heavy tailgate drinking is have to frequently get up and use the bathroom after the seal has been broken...kind of a pain at Michigan Stadium.

No sir.
They had a chart for my drinking in college.
I once drank (heavily) 65 days in a row.
I had a headache in the morning after every single one of those nights.
I don't drink anymore.

wake up with headaches if I fall asleep pretty close to my last beer/drink (unless things went way to far), but if I drink and then stop cold and try to proceed with my day/night, I am hurting in about an hour.

I actually didn't drink before or during games during my college days, and have largely stuck to that since. (This is for games I'm at in person, not watching on TV) I've found that drinking much before games dehydrates me too much. And sitting there for 3 to 3.5 hours, it's too difficult. For the few nightgames I've gone to, I have had booze before them however. But, after the games is a different story.

when I am really coming down, 4-5 hours or more afterwards. A flask in the old inside coat pocket does the trick though.
But to answer your questions, the three of us will typically drink 8-14 beers and 5-8 shots each in the 4 hours before kickoff. We take care not to let any of us get "annoyingly" drunk. We're functional, still able to walk and talk (without spitting/yelling) etc.

Holy shit. Personally I wouldn't be worried about being annoying. I would worry about projectile vomiting all over my section at the stadium. Impressive volume.

I remember being very poor in college and being exceptionally pissed off watching these videos / shows. These wrestlers are wasting the vast majority of their beers! Very poor display of beer etiquette IMO.

I haven't tried the Fitz yet, but I'm with you on the Oberon part.
I wonder if Harbaugh has tried the Edmund Fitzgerald or if he strictly sticks to the song?

I will hopefully be tailgating for the Maryland game (my bachelor party, w00t). Haven't tailgated on the golf course in years. Before the games at home I've been doing the MGoBBQ recipes. We've been making food for those that I would tailgate with as they all come to our house for the games. The recipes don't disappoint and I think any i've tried would be good candidates for tailgating. I also like having a variety. Did you have any of that grilling cheese? Man was that good.
September 8th, 2016 at 1:01 PM ^
Why would you post this?
Do you genuinely not understand what is normally served at a tailgate?

Because it's lazy and stupid.

Frankly I dont see what could ever be wrong discussing beer and grilling. Always moar beer and grilling please.

That is exactly what I thought, His Dudeness. WD posted this just for the sake of posting a thread. This would be a decent thread outside of football (and maybe basketball) season, though, when there is not much else to talk about.
September 8th, 2016 at 1:31 PM ^
No.
I was actually interested in reading this until it became a "how much beer can I poor on myself" thread.
If MGrowOld had posted this, you'd be all "Dude, awesome thread!".
September 8th, 2016 at 1:37 PM ^
Let's disregard the fact that we've had this discussion on the board many times over the years and that there are literally frontpaged recipes that would be great to use for tailgating.
If MGowOld had posted this you can bet he would have included a recipe himself or something that approximated a unique take on the idea of tailgating instead of "I eat hotdogs and brats, and burgers... sometimes it's different. DISCUSS!"
September 8th, 2016 at 2:02 PM ^
I tend to skip any thread that asks me to participate, but I was dissapointed it turned into a "I drink so much I'm immune to hangovers thread." And any idiot who who post a thread and ends it with Discuss!, should be sent to Bolivia... This wasn't that bad, but you are correct, a little extra insight or recipe would have changed everything.
September 8th, 2016 at 3:00 PM ^
WD left out the part about rubbing the brats, and burgers on his body and letting his dog lap it off.

What do you put into your cups? I've always seen people at tailgates with cups. I bring cups too. Damn it all I never know what to put into them. Any sweet new ideas?

Peppermint Schnaps

A friend had a Camelbak full of 100 proof peppermint schnapps at the Big Chill. Hilarity ensued.

Exactly.
A) You could have tailgated underage. It's really not that difficult.
B) You have to know what food is served at tailgates. It's food. You've been eating it presumably for 21 years now.
C) Why would you post here if you're genuinely curious? Google it.
D) Isn't this something you ask your friend who you are tailgating with, if anyone? Why would you want to know what other people are eating on Saturday morning?
E) I just really REALLY hate what this space is becoming.

I agree comletely.
September 8th, 2016 at 3:21 PM ^
also does not appear to have even a ballpark understanding of what the phrase "by default" means unless he means that nothing else but burgers sounds good or is available.
September 8th, 2016 at 1:01 PM ^
Noon kick? Beer followed by beer and shots and more beer. Followed by ribeye on the grill, sunny side eggs ontop of steak, and bacon.
3:30 kick? Beer followed by beer and shots and more beer. Followed by ribeye on the grill, and typically grill roasted potatoes, grilled potatoes and corn on the cob.
Evening game? No food because I already ate. So just beer followed by beer and shots and more beer.
September 8th, 2016 at 1:02 PM ^
I like the way you tailgate.
September 8th, 2016 at 1:08 PM ^
don't get out to too many games (only IU this year) so when we do we go all out.
Of course the above is followed by post-game drinking until security kicks us off the golf course, then we head to LBJ or ABC to drink and eat more
September 8th, 2016 at 1:24 PM ^
This is what I hope the Maryland game will be for me this year. Was gonna go to IU but didn't work out.
