Also grew up in Brighton.  Moved back after a while before leaving again.  Looking back on both experiences, I have to wonder if there is a place that could be any more intentionally insular than Brighton.  Yes, there was a small-town feel to it because of the downtown area, but the attitudes of the people, particularly the leadership, were distinctly 'us vs. them.'  Very Stepford-esque.  They do a fantastic job of hiding the poor.

I realize these lists are pretty subjective, but St. Joseph not being on this list is a crying shame. I've been to most of these towns many times and have family in several of them, but St. Joseph (home of Corey Malone-Hatcher) is an absolutely beautiful town, has a lot of culture, has a great beach scene, and arguably the best bluffs view of Lake Michigan. Hard to see it left out

My hometown. Not too sure on the culture thing lol.... but agree on everything else. This list may factor in how convienent shopping etc.. is.

Living in St. Joe if you wanted to go to a mall (other than going to Kohl's) you have to travel to either South Bend or Kalamazoo. It kind of gets old after awhile.

You have a great hometown! My father's family was from St Joe. His father was a manager at Whirlpool for years. I spent no less than a month out of every year in St Joe when I was growing up. The Venetian Festival, Silver Beach Park, Krasl Arts, the piers, the ease of rail travel to Chicago, Detroit, and GR, fantastic weather...it's just a special place that even now that local family have passed away, we still try to visit. Much preferred over my current Kentucky residence.

This list is about right for the ugly peninsula. But I'd live in an igloo in any UP town before I'd move back on the wrong side of the bridge.

Well those of us with good jobs that aren't complete wusses are glad there are more candy ass trolls that can't handle a little chill!

I'd take 9 degree weather over 90 degree swamp any day of the week. Ladies love the sauna, pard ;p

when it ranks Midland ahead of Traverse City, Holland and all of the west side lake towns. I'm in Midland a couple times a year, it ain't terrible but I'm taking most anywhere Michigan before Midland.
