OT-Game of Thrones S6 E5

Submitted by Eastside Maize on
Arya is about to be in Assassins Creed. Will Yara sit on the salt throne? Sansa is the brains and Jon the brawn. Ramsay, do not be deceived...you will reap what you sow. WHAT IS DEAD MAY NEVER DIE

Nymeria (Arya's direwolf) is still alive (and in the books, running around with a large pack of wolves killing things). The show has just never focused on Nymeria after Arya told her to run away.

Lady (Sansa's direwolf) dies halfway through season 1 when Joffrey throws a hissy fit and Ned has to kill a wolf as punishment for what Arya did to Joffrey.

I wonder if Martin gave the HBO writers where to go or if George's story will be radically different than where HBO is going?

IIRC, he has said that more than half of the next book is done. The writers were working from finished material up to this point. The books have a sort of pattern -- the first part is where all the loose ends from the previous book are tied up, then everyone heads out to their new adventures. So this episode is that point, the transition where everyone heads out into the unknown.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn HBO made a deal to have this season come out before Winds of Winter. I'm not sure I buy the whole story about him not being able to finish it on time -- I'd say it's a win-win -- HBO makes more money from having these "exclusives" while Martin has more time to tinker with the cliffhangers at the end of the next book, which are integral to the start of the final book, which is what HBO really needs from him now -- not the end of Winds of Winter, but the start of the final book.

You have MUCH more faith in MArtin than I do at this point.

I just think he has a combination of writer's block/don't give a shit.  It's his life and his choice to do so and frankly he has enough money and other projects that he doesn't need to put out any more books.

I think the show is going to press ahead and whatever progress is made on the books is going to get shattered because he is ornery about it and decides to go ina new direction with them just to make sure they're "his own" thus guaranteeing they never come out.

You are probably right, and you know more than me about this, but I guess I just think the books are not that hard to write -- the reason the story spun out of control after he blew up the original (trilogy) ending is because it is far too easy for him to churn out chapters.

So I don't see writer's block as being in play. But not giving a shit, as you put it, could fit into it. Having other projects that pay more for less work, too.

The Winds of Winter could be the last book published in the series. HBO is going to stage the finale regardless, and you may be right that after it is completed there will be little incentive for him to finish.

Just for screwing Sansa over.

And for the record, I like the fake play Sansa. She has nice tatas.

I guess I'm a little confused with all the Bran hate. I might be missing something, but what else did Bran cause with his warging? I thought the only two visions he actually influenced were with the white walkers (Night King?) and Hodor...

He's still supposed to be very young too, despite the actor playing him growing up rapidly.

I mean, Arya could have ended the war entirely and saved her family had she used those three deaths correctly, but she didn't.  Robb could have avoided the death of his family had he held to his oath with the Freys.

Pretty much all of the characters make mistakes/choices that have unforseen consequences in the series.  I'd say the best characters at not doing that are Littlefinger and Varys, due to their meticulous, plotting ways, but even they can be surprised by how events unfold.

to foster by Howland Reed, but most people think they are odd, and are usually disliked as a result.  The Cranoggmen, or frog people, because of where they live, and how they fight, using stealth and poison, as opposed to the honorable way on the field of battle.  As a result they are usually left alone.

It will be interesting to see if they are introduced now that Jon and Sansa are shopping for allies, and if Jon meets Howland and that's how he learns of his parentage, something Ned promised to share with him, but never got the opportunity.  Jon and Sansa should both be well aware that Howland Reed was one of Ned Starks most loyal friends and supporters, and will almost certainly try to recruit them to their side in the war against the Bolton's.

I think we will learn from Bran what happened at the Tower of Joy, as he seemed to be particularly interested in that event, but wasn't allowed to see it though at the time by the 3 eyed Raven, I assume that's one of the first things he'll go back to now that he's on his own.  But even if Bran learns the truth, he now knows that trying to change the past has negative consequences for those he tries to communicate with, so Jon will have to find out the truth on his own.  Hopefully after what happened with Hodor, Bran learns the that the past is done, 'it's already been written, and the ink is dry'.

Great episode again, this season is shaping up to be one of my favorite seasons of this show.  Leave it to director Jack Bender, who directed plenty of awesome episodes on the equally incredible Lost, to finally pull my heartstrings on this show.   I wasn't emotional at the Red Wedding, more in shock, and I have never been close to tears on this show, but man, the last 10 minutes really got me here.  Another really good episode though all the way around.  I have complained about the iron islands stuff in the past, but it was really good this episode.

Overall, even though there's some storylines coming through very slowly, this season has been really good IMO. I have been disappointed with the Iron Islands though. Euron is far less badass in the show than the books. That kingsmoot was a shit show compared to the book kingsmoot.

Sansa's dismissal of Littlefinger is going to lead to something negative by the end of the season. Maybe that was a really sad foreshadowy pun when Littlefinger told Sweetrobyn "the time has tome to join the fray".

So there you have it. By the end of the season The Knights of the Vale will be at the Twins riding out with the Frey's ;)

Well you know, after she made it clear to him that he was beyond forgiveness and his feelings were hurt, that littlefinger was lying about Sansa's uncle. Crafty bastard. Sansa is going to gain momentum from her lie but get but by it later when she realizes her uncle is not much use to her. My guess but no way Littlefinger is being helpful.

Also, love the Coldhands guess above too. Totally think that is happening.

That said...who is the white walker King? Jon's father maybe? I am feeling like he looked a little targaryian or a little stark. Mind so blown though I can't put pieces together.

Final guess, Davis is finally going to be I charge of recruitment again, but this time instead of for stannis, he will try to get the mandrelys etc for Sansa and they will get Jorah to get his peeps in the process (as Jorah needs to seek out some crazy witch magic and he might know about shireen and the fact that she stopped that clamp from spreading).

That or non of this could be true at all and they kill all my favorite people again. F-ers.

Can someone tell me what happened to Jojen in the show?  I read the books a long time ago and with a year between show seasons some of the details fade and blend between show nad books.  What happened to that guy in the show?

Somewhat confirmation that "Hodor" was always going to be "Hold the Door" and how a fan predicted it (from a couple years ago):

EDIT: I guess this doesn't necessarily confirm that GRRM had it planned out 20-whatever years ago, but given what the guy has created, I'm more than willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

It was pretty gut-wrenching to learn about "hold the door", and it was hard to watch.  But I don't think it was harder to watch than Shireen having been burned alive.  Can't re-watch that one...  Those two moments are the only two that pulled my heart out through the entire show.  The Red Wedding was sad, especially when Caitlin's throat was cut, but nobody that died in that scene was a child.  And they were all involved in the fight.  Shireen and Hodor were not, they were just along for the ride, trying to be kids.
