247 Projects OT Alaric Jackson To Michigan
Mods delete if redundant..
6-7 285 lbs from Detroit Ren. #56 OT/629 overall
3* .8596 with offers from Neb, Iowa, Sparty + 15 others.
NO UM offer listed tho....
Somethin in the works? If so, it may not bode well for other OL options.
If true, WELCOME Alaric! GO BLUE!

.. there may not be any other OL prospects leaning toward UM and this is an effort to grab at least one more for 2016.

At this stage in the game, a local player with offers from Iowa/MSU/Wisco is a good solution for me. All three of those programs have done a very goob job with their o-lines recently.

where Michigan is right now with OL recruiting in this class. An offer list like that is good enough for me.

Jackson has been playing football for two years.

...since Carson Butler and Andre Criswell back in 2005.
Not a bad place to re-establish some ties, especially in light of some recent top talent going to East Lansing. Like Cass, a DPS school you have to test into.
Notable Renaissance recruits:
Lawrence Thomas - MSU (2011) - 4*
Mylan Hicks - MSU (2010) - 4*
Chris Norman - MSU (2009) - 4*
Derek Knight - WVU (2007) - 3*

Isn't he the character from the video game "Nerd Punch out - 2007"?

Based on a tweet I just saw recapping Isiah Simmon's most recent twitter follows nclude....Rashan Gary, Nate Johnson, Nick Eubanks, Joe Hastings (UM Defensive Graduate Assistant), Clemson Co-OC, and Harbaugh. According to WD's twitter follower dogma, this is good news for his announcement tomorrow at 5pm for us. This would run counter to his crystal ballz by Wilfong and Shurburtt to Clemson (National 247 guys).

Can someone follow up on Counter Strike to confirm? TIA.

If somehow the 247 guys lose out to the twitter theory, then I am all in. Nevertheless, an interesting test case.

Has same measurables as Hamilton, but is much tougher and love that he plays hoops (Renaissance ain't no joke).
Come on Down!!

What I hear about Hamilton and his work ethic and toughness is disconcerting. Great body and frame, but Aleric only lacks the development that Hamilton has, not the frame, and certainly not the athleticism or toughness. Bulk him up, teach him the skills and his cieling is much higher squarely because to survive you have to have a want to and will to, as Drevno and Harbaugh always repeat.
If you are a high rated OL recruit at that size and lift less than DBs on your HS team, I don't want you.

Magnus / Space Coyote,
What's your prediction on Jackson in three years? Will Jackson or Swenson be a better collegiate OT? I'll hang up and listen.

a) He was on the radar. However, he had not been offered.
b) We weren't actively searching for offensive linemen until recently. We had Swenson, Bredeson, Onwenu, and Hamilton. Bredeson was the most recent commitment (IIRC) and that happened in August, which is 5 months ago. We picked up Spanellis right when Swenson left, so the net gain/loss was zero. Then we lost Hamilton, so we're down a lineman. In the case of Stewart, Young, Fuller, Hill, etc., we've always been looking for wide receivers and cornerbacks. If Fuller and Hill had committed to us back in August, how active do you think our search would be for defensive backs at this point? Probably not very active.

Magnus, if you project Alaric Jackson as someone who could begin to contribute not later than 2019 (giving him three years to physically develop, learn how to play the game and become a better football player, after having played only basketball for most of his life), does this intensify the need to bring in at least two offensive linemen who, like Mason Cole before them, could be starting as true freshmen for Michigan in 2017 without causing any problems.
Also, how many offensive linemen would you expect Michigan to go for in the class of 2017?
February 2nd, 2016 at 10:05 AM ^
Yes, the need for early-impact linemen is intensified greatly. We lose Bars, Kalis, Braden, and Magnuson by the beginning of 2017. The backups to those guys have not fared very well (Kugler, Dawson, etc.), and even those guys will be seniors by then.
I think we'll take at least five linemen in the 2017 class.

Saying Onwenu will, "Make his decision", on signing day. If he leaves this kid could be crucial.

Golfer and die hard Iowa fan Zach Johnson is none too happy about this:

I was initially upset about this but 0.0003 seconds later realized it was only a golfer. Then 0.0001 seconds later realized it was only Zach Johnson.
Then I burst out laughing.
February 1st, 2016 at 10:08 PM ^
It's kind of interesting that Iowa fans are upset about it only because we're now in a recruiting cycle with a staff that will offer who it wants to offer right up to the end and doesn't really care what you may think about it. I actually rather like that attitude. Before now, I would have thought that it might take a lot more to rile up Iowa fans, but live and learn.
