Partridge named permanent staff member (LBs/ST)
EDIT: The image is wrong. He is the special teams coordinator. Jay Harbaugh is the assistant ST coach.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach Jim Harbaughannounced Thursday (Jan. 14) that Chris Partridge has been permanently added to the coaching staff and will serve as the team's linebackers and special teams coach.
"Chris has a proven track record as a successful coach," said Harbaugh. "He has brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to his work as our director of player personnel. I know that same passion will be exhibited in his work with our student-athletes."
"I came to Michigan because I wanted to work with the best and learn from the best," said Partridge. "I couldn't have a better mentor than Coach Harbaugh, who shares my vision that the student-athletes come first. I am honored by his confidence and for the opportunity to continue to serve this incredibility institution."
Partridge had been the team's director of player personnel in recruiting since joining the staff in January 2015 until Coach Harbaugh appointed him to coach the team's linebackers during the bowl season.
Competing against the No. 19-ranked University of Florida in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day, Partridge helped coach the Wolverines to a convincing 41-7 victory. The stout Wolverine defense held the Gator attack to just 28 total yards of offense in the second half, including two yards in the third quarter. The team's two leading tacklers against Florida were both linebackers (Joe Bolden, 7; Desmond Morgan, 4).
Partridge came to Ann Arbor after serving as the head coach at New Jersey's Paramus Catholic High School, a position he held for five seasons (2010-14). While at the helm of the Paladin program, Partridge grew a football program listed 4,250th nationally and 112th in state of New Jersey to the top-ranked team in the state and No. 4 nationally by USA Today. He coached and mentored more than 30 Division I football players during that time, as well as various All-America players.
Prior to his stint at Paramus, Partridge served as the defensive line coach and assistant to the special teams at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
Partridge coached at his alma mater, Lafayette College, in Easton, Pennsylvania, as the secondary coach and assistant to the special teams coordinator.
Partridge earned his bachelor's degree in government and law from Lafayette College in 2003

I was just thinking the same thing. I really liked have a coach dedicated exclusively to special teams, especially since it's such an important part of the game.

I probably missed it, but did we name a ST coach s he is the assistant ST coach?

He is the linebackers & special teams coach. From the release: "... will serve as the team's linebackers and special teams coach"
January 14th, 2016 at 5:55 PM ^
but the actual press release just says "special teams coach." We'll see which is the accurate version...

One of them is wrong; I think the simplest explanation is that the press release is accurate and the image is not. You might have an idea of this: how many teams have an "assistant special teams coach" in addition to a "special teams coach"?

Thanks for the additional information! It seems like Partridge is in fact the "head" special teams assistant and Jay Harbaugh is the assistant special teams assistant. Or something.

good for him. He will be a dynamic recruiter and the LB unit didn't take a step back in the bowl...On a side note, we are doing everything possible (but Pay?) to get Gary here...hope he comes

Is there a point in time when we won't have to have a long ass title for the head coach. Fuck Brandon... I'm out.

Could he possibly be sharing the special teams with another coach? For instance, Partridge and Jay could both be assistant ST coaches? In that case, there technically isn't a head ST coach, but two assistants... speculation.

Partridge will act as his assistant. It's a nice situation for Partridge to learn the fine points of the job. Putting him in charge of LBs and ST seems like too much, not too mention he probably gets extra recruiting duty.

Seems weird that we have a DC, but we have a DL, LB and 2 Secondary coaches already on staff.
Brown just gameplanning?

I'm sort of hoping he is just an assistant special teams coach. This is his first collegiate coaching gig, right? I hope Harbaugh doesn't give him too much autonomy.
January 14th, 2016 at 7:25 PM ^
I wonder if Texas Tech fans were saying the same thing in 99' about Art Briles when he became their RB Coach in his first college gig.
January 14th, 2016 at 7:57 PM ^
than RB coach, Also, not to be too arrogant, but Texas Tech was not and is not Michigan.
January 14th, 2016 at 8:28 PM ^
Tell that to our RBs then because our run game has been missing in action with an experienced RB coach since 2007.

No, its not his first collegiate coaching gig. Per the press release in the OP, he's coached at The Citadel and Lafaeyete.

I hope they bring in another special recruiting assistant from another powerful H.S. program to replace him.

Devin Bush Sr. would be a great addition as a recruiting assistant in my opinion. I know it's been talked about on here before, but much like Partridge, Bush took a middling Flanagan program to a state title at the highest level in Florida. He was a guest speaker at the summer camp, his son is on the team, and Mich needs to retain a Florida presence. The stars are aligning
