Per rivals ($): DCC down to 5: Leavitt, Anderson, Pees, Randy Shannon, and Butch Davis

Yes, that Randy Shannon and that Butch Davis. Apparently they even reached out to Harbaugh and asked to be interviewed.

Best I can do for a LINK. ($) (Yes, it's paywalled.)

Calling alum96, profile it up, baby. (I've only found Leavitt and Anderson posts.)

From this five, my order of preference is as follows:

1.) Anderson

PROS:  Actual sitting DC from a clean, prestigious program.  Crack recruiter who has ties to the west coast.  Paid less than we'll probably be willing to offer.  Ties to Harbaugh.  Young enough.

CONS:  Only two years of experience as a DC, and Stanford's defense was, uh, kinda bad this year.  Possibility that Stanford's excellent 2014 defense was attributable to Derek Mason (now Vandy's HC).  Public favorite for the BYU job, where he's possibly the biggest "name" guy eligible due to being LDS.

2.) Shannon

PROS:  Recruiting prowess is legendary.  Household name in Florida high schools.  Seems like defenses he coordinated are decently reliable and alternate between being good and being elite.  Not old, and already had grab at the brass ring as sitting Miami head man.

CONS:  As a head coach, some of his defenses were pretty bad even at Miami.  Was at Miami when Real Dirty Stuff was happening (not just paying players/PEDs bad).  Not exactly a scheme mastermind.  Not young.

---DURKIN LINE (IMO anything below this point would be a downgrade from what we had)---

3.) Leavitt

PROS:  Great recruiter from South FL.  Was the head coach during a time when South Florida was really, really good nationally and was led by explosive defense.  Teams he led shut down Rich Rod's spread a couple of times when that was the cutting edge of college football offense.  Ties to Harbaugh.

CONS:  Hit a kid maybe.  Some people think South FL was basically a sham school with respect to his athletes when he was there.  Old.  Coordinated a really bad Colorado defense this past year.

---JACKSON LINE (IMO, I'd rather take a chance and just promote Jackson below this point)---

4.) Pees

PROS:  Was DC for the Baltimore Ravens under John Harbaugh, which carries some cachet because most people associate the Ravens with crushing D even when they're not very good.  On occasion, his defenses were top-third NFL defenses which counts for something.

CONS:  One billion years old.  Never been a college coach.  Sometimes his defenses in the pros were bad.

5.) Davis

PROS:  Personally coached some of the biggest names in the history of football.

CONS:  That one time when North Carolina was a degree mill.

I think harbaugh should look into Bo Pelini! Sure, he sucks ass a hc, but that's because he doesn't do media and the dog and pony show stuff. What he does do is field a great defense wherever he has been. I bet he'd come cheap to!

All in for Randy Shannon. Randy is a very solid DC, but also knows the state of Florida inside and out for recruiting. I really hope we land him.

G Mat coordinates the D one more time in a victory over FLA. He then moves into an admin position as "recruiting coordinator" replacing Partridge, thus allowing JH to hire a top notch DC, promote Partridge to a coaching position and allowing G Mat to continue to be an important part of the program without the coaching stress & travel. He would be tremendous to have on staff to work with recruits and their parents when they were on campus for their multitude of visits be it official or un-official.

Could be a win win for the program, G Mat and Partridge

So you want to take one of the best DL coaches in college football, a guy who coordinated two top 10 defenses for the Ravens and two top 10 defenses at Michigan all within the last 6 years and make him an administartor?

Good god.

Greg Mattison could get a coordinator job at most top 25 programs if he wanted to.

The things people think of on this site sometimes....
