Oh, sure, a little shock maybe. But this team was going no where this season anyways. This loss just assures that Caldwell is a goner.(or should anyways)

They are penalties being reviewable away from being 6-6, I wouldn't be upset at all if Caldwell is still around next year.

I didn't think it was...Rodgers was ducking his head. His hand certainly hit the facemask, but there was no pull or anything like that. He pulled the jersey collar.
That said, you still rush 4 and account for the trail man...how many hail marys do you see that are caught or tipped back to the trail man?
I've never coached football a day in my life and I know you do that. Hell, Hail Mary plays are designed to go to the trail man.
Was Calvin Johnson in? Fuller? If not, why not? Why have all those LBs? They weren't going to do the lateral thing again at that point - it was too close.
If you didn't have time to change personnel after the penalty, call timeout, there was 0:00 on the clock.
So many things they could've done differently.
I do feel bad for the Lions, but only because "the punt" still lives within me...so I hate to see anyone go through that nutpunch. But at the same time, I'm glad I don't root for that team (or any NFL team) anymore.
A lot more relaxing when you don't care who wins.

Like the officiating expert said. In real time, hand brushes across the facemask--especially the quarterback--it's going to be a flag. That's just how it goes. Tough break.
December 3rd, 2015 at 11:59 PM ^
I don't disagree that it could be an easy mistake. I was just saying that in hindsight it was a weak call.
But it's not like it's 100% inexcusable unless it was a reviewable play and they didn't review. Which I don't believe it is...I'm 99.9% sure it isn't. So in that case, I can totally see why it was thrown, but yea, if I'm a Lions fan...it is a tough break. No question. Because he really didn't do much other than hit his facemack and grab his jersey collar.

GRASPING FACEMASK
Article 5 No player shall twist, turn, or pull the facemask of an opponent in any direction.
Penalty: For twisting, turning, or pulling the mask: Loss of 15 yards. A personal foul. The player may be disqualified if the action is judged by the official(s) to be of a flagrant nature.
A.R. 12.12 Third-and-10 on A30. Runner A1 runs to the A33, where he is tackled by B1, who incidentally grasps A1’s facemask on the tackle, but it is not a twist, turn, or pull.
Ruling: A’s ball, fourth-and-seven, on A33. No Foul.

LOINS?? Nice.
Seriously, don't change the thread title. It's perfect for what we witnessed tonight.

I intentionally did it. It's become a twitter thing.

Fuck Green Bay. Fuck Aaron Rogers. Hope Seattle's D-line obliterates you come the playoffs.
Does Detroit actually have to sacrifice a living creature to get a call or two to go our way? You figure the league owes us after "The Calvin Johnson" rule, the playoff game against Dallas, Seattle, and now this.

A junior high school player should know how to execute a punt.
I have been watching football for nearly 50 years. 3-4 games per year end on a hail mary, but I have never seen a game end on a fumbled punt snap that was returned for a touchdown. That makes O'neil a bigger choker.
