Which players should be offered a 5th year?
Sorry if there's another thread already on this, but I wanted to gauge those more knowledgeable than me on who will likely get a 5th year offer.
How generous is Harbaugh typically with giving out 5th years? How many guys are even eligible for a 5th year next season?
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:51 PM ^
I didn't think people like to speculate on these things, but feel free to talk shit about players that you don't think will be coming back.
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:52 PM ^
Yes, that's exactly what the OP said he wanted to do, disparage and talk shit about 22 y/o kids
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:55 PM ^
Well, if you are speculating on who will be allowed to come back for a fifth year, you are also speculating on who won't
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:59 PM ^
Speculating on who isn't coming back for a 5th year, (and let's face it, it's not that hard to see) isn't talking shit about kids, which is what you said the OP was doing
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:02 PM ^
(and let's face it, it's not that hard to see)
i would love for you to tell one of these guys "it's not that hard to see"

You make it sound like anyone that posts here has to get up in front of the team in Schembechler Hall and read their posts aloud. Go away
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:55 PM ^
kiss and make up already, metaphorically of course
December 2nd, 2015 at 7:15 PM ^
I know, I realized I wasn't helping by firing back and so I dropped it. ST3 always with the great insight
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:00 PM ^
I guess we should also take down the UFRs, since those are also merely "talking shit" about the players.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:24 PM ^
wow thats a little harsh.
this blog mainly analyzes m sports and it consists of daily entries, posts, threads, etc which assess the past performance and project future prospect of teams / individual players / units / coaches, etc and its usually done respectfully and thoughtfully - very few people trash players (intentionally or not), though theres obviously bad apples in every sample.
its pretty easy to take offense if youre actively looking to be offended.
if mentioning names is bad - coaches likely welcome back all projected impact players and depth players for 5th years though i can see them not offering 5th years to an OL who hasnt played, a DL rarely played (and has bounced around positions), a CB who hasnt played, a smallish LB who hasnt played much - but thats just off top of my head.
most of the 5th years should be starters or big contributors which has been rare of late. and most of those leaving the team will prob be underclassmen seeking better fits or more PT elsewhere along with the usual few forced to hang it up for medical reasons

redshirted in previous years of elgibility
And Linebackers
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:31 PM ^
Michigan just doesn't have the required depth (as evidenced by the Bryan Mone and Ryan Glasgow injuries). The D-line was widely considered by many (including yours truly) to be the deepest part of the team before the season started. Things did not go well when the aforementioned key players were injured. Experience counts in the college game and Michigan needs to hold on to that experience for as long as possible as their new talent adjusts to the speed and violence of the college game.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:43 PM ^
The defensive line did have a lot of depth until three injuries and the non-appearance of Lawrrence Marshall took their toll.
December 2nd, 2015 at 8:22 PM ^
You're proving my point.
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:49 PM ^
I think anyone who projects to play in a reasonably worst case injury scenario needs to stay, and I think that encompasses almost everybody remaining from the 2012 class. Even the guys who have had next to no playing time.
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:51 PM ^
Is that how Harbaugh typically operates? I admit I didn't follow his Stanford rosters at all.
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:56 PM ^
Well unless you think Harbaugh is going to over sign not granting some 5th years is the only way this class is getting to 27
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:27 PM ^
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:51 PM ^
Projecting to get significant playing time is a lock.
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:52 PM ^
Ryan Glasgow for sure.
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:53 PM ^
Derrick Green is already gone. I know this for an absolute fact. Cannot share how, so don't ask.
it's pretty obvious he was going to leave but he wasn't even there for The Game. let's just say his mom didn't like the amount of playing time he got this year and voiced it to the coaches.
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:54 PM ^
Probability you simply stole this off the scout insider board and are presenting it as your own, considering it was posted there last week: high.
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:58 PM ^
well I didn't say to pay the place some respect but you just took the cat out of the bag.
figured it would be fine since it's at least a week old. i didn't personally take it from there, Teddy Blanks told me.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:00 PM ^
No, you did them one worse. You just presented the information as your own without crediting them at all and gave the knowledge away anyways.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:13 PM ^
Are you implying he change his handle to:
'Plagiarize Man'?
Becuase that would be cool if he did.
December 2nd, 2015 at 6:16 PM ^
+1, from one Sam to another.
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:55 PM ^
While it's laughably childish to have your mom complaining to your coaches when you're a grown man, I do feel bad for Derrick Green. He took a risk by coming to UM, seems like he tried hard to make it work, but in the end it just didn't. Hope he does well somewhere else and makes some money playing professionally.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:49 PM ^
How exactly did he try hard? He can in overweight and out of shape as a freshman and never delivered consistently on the field. He did try hard by getting mommy to fight his battles for him.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:52 PM ^
What kind of school would have been a risk-free option for Green?
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:55 PM ^
He wasn't physically there at The Game? Or mentally not there? I admit that I didn't look closely for #27 on the sidelines, so his physical absence was unknown to me.
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:59 PM ^
Not pointing fingers at anyone or thing but Michigan must have the NCAA record on 5 star athletes that never panned out.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:17 PM ^
I think only 1 in 3 make it to the league, so the hit ratio isn't great anyway. We're probably on the lower end (1 in 4) recently, but the thing about averages -- half the results need to be below average.*
*Yes, technically that's true about medians and not averages, but you get the idea.

The well-sourced rumblings are that Isaac and Cole are not going anywhere.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:11 PM ^
I hope so. Both are very talented.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:51 PM ^
Sam Webb on the morning show just talked about Cole and Isaac. Cole is moving to Safety. He said Brian and his family is all on board with the move.
Doesn't sound like Isaac is leaving at all. And also not moving to LB.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:09 PM ^
Also has nothing to do with the OP which is about 5th yr seniors.
December 2nd, 2015 at 6:11 PM ^
obvious. Aren't you just the sharp knife in the drawer today there big shooter!

December 2nd, 2015 at 3:54 PM ^
But I think we can conclude that the following are for sure returning:
WR - Darboh, Chesson
OL - Kalis, Braden, Mags
DL - Wormley, Henry, Glasgow
LB - Gant (because we do not have anyone else)
DB - Clark
ST - Allen
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:58 PM ^
Chesson, Darboh, Clark jumped out to me, but I wasn't sure who was eligible on the OL and DL.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:23 PM ^
OL - Mason Cole?
Edit** oh shit, I'm dumb. You were mentioning guys who have 5th years to return. My apologies. -1 from myself.
December 2nd, 2015 at 3:55 PM ^
Brian won't talk about it and I think that extends to the board as well. Some of the athletes probably do read the board, and to be told that you aren't worth a 5th year probably isn't the best thing to tell them.

Maurice Hurst has to. He follows me, LSA, LongLiveBo, Frito and MGoJohnStamos.
The Get Off My Lawn 5.
December 2nd, 2015 at 4:15 PM ^
Hurst isn't even part of this convo. Also, he follows me and my twitter handle isn't linked to this board in the least. I think he just follows a lot of people that tweet about Michigan.

The fact that both of you have Mo Hurst as a follower probably ruined WD's day. Sorry bud.
