ND will have the same issue next year as MSU. Replacing first round draft picks at left tackle is very difficult.

They will be better on O than State, but losing Jaylon Smith and Sheldon Day will hurt their D which isn't great to begin with.

give the whipping OU is putting on tonight.

1) Clemson

2) Alabama

3) Oklahoma

4) Iowa/MSU winner

3 and 4 are locks right now. .I don't see Florida beating Alabama but I do see UNC beating Clemson (unlikely, though)...in that case the Stanford/ND winner gets in over OSU provided Stanford beats USC

Little bit of devils advocate here, but why is Clemson automatically out with a loss next week? UNC will be a top 15 team. They would still have one more win than ND or OSU. Wins over ND and FSU. Why would ND jump them? Unless they get blown out next week I think Clemson should be a lock.

I feel like Shaw may not lose to bad teams, but he loses several games that his team should win because he is way too conservative as soon as he gets a lead. He is essentially Lloyd Carr but maybe a bit better because he doesn't drop the odd stinker?

They just finished the season 10-2 and are ranked higher than us, right? And it was an early road game out east. The lack of offense is perplexing, but I wouldn't call it a stinker.

Losing to Iowa or Illinois seemingly every year or two is a stinker. Or to some mediocre to bad Bob Davie teams.

Someone please tell Shaw he is only up 6 and not 9. They have gone into the I form offense the entire fourth quarter. This is how he lost to MSU.

Well, Northwestern didn't have to play OSU or MSU, so their record might be a bit deceiving. Carr didn't really lose that many games to inferior teams. When he lost to a team like Iowa, they were usually having a strong season. The bigger problem with Carr was winning big games, at least from about 2001 onwards.

We lost a lot to crappy Bob Davie and Charlie Weis coached ND teams. Then some other September game. We rarely got to October with less than 1 loss.

This is why David Shaw gets a rep as a good but not great coach. He essentially took a six point lead and decided that was good enough for him with a full quarter left.
