UM-PSU Score Predictions

Submitted by FauxMo on

I have a bad feeling about this weekend. Three brutal games in the last four weeks (with one snoozer in the middle), a team that is beat up a little (especially on the D-Line), a game away at PSU (where it is always tough to play), and maybe just a touch of looking-ahead to OSU, and this game scares the bejesus out of me. I say the game ends 28-24, and there is a better than 50% chance UM gets the 24, not the 28.

What are your realistic score predictions? Can anyone talk me off the ledge on my pessimism?

Call me crazy, but approaching this game feels similar to BYU and Northwestern. Albeit, this game is at Happy Valley, but I have a feeling Michigan is going to come out and make a statement prior to beating OSU.

There are so many ways that Penn State is NOT Indiana nor have they any hope of being Indiana on offense that this game feels like a 24-17-ish type Michigan victory.

I'll be honest, I've talked to people at work who are now scared of the Penn State game because of Indiana, and all I can ask is - "How many times do you foresee Penn State going no-huddle and running zone stretch with an RB?"

That being said, we might see echoes of the Indiana strategy on offense here - a pass-heavy game until we can establish the run, if we can. Whereas Indiana was pouring personnel in to stop the run (we probably could have put up some nice rushing numbers if they hadn't been so focused on that), Penn State can actually defend against it reasonably well without the extra hustle and effort.

I was much more worried about Indiana than I am about Penn State. I'm actually feeling pretty confident about this game. Being at noon, Rudocks improvement and Penn States offense make this game seem not so tough.
I see something like 27-13 M.

I have a good feeling about this weekend. Three wins in the last four weeks (even with one snoozer in the middle), a team that is beat up the same as every other team, a game away at PSU at noon when the crowds are much tamer (where it is rarely tough to play), and maybe just a touch of knowing there is a lot on the line with OSU ahead, and this game excites the bejesus out of me. I say the game ends 28-24, and there is a much better than 50% chance UM gets the 28, not the 24.

What are your realistic score predictions? Can anyone talk me off the ledge on my optimism?

This Michigan team is the first since 2010 to have a winning record in away games.  That should be encouraging.  Granted two of those wins were close (Minny and IU), but those two teams have played close against the best in the conference.

So, do we have confidence in this team on the road yet or are we shell-shocked from the Hoke Road Warriors?

I'm thinking its 30-20 type game and it can go either way. Problem is our DEFENSE hasn't been good of late and are continuously out of place play after play. The front 4 are getting ZERO push so therefore our DB's have been getting burned or are trying to do to much and are leaving there assignments. Got a bad feeling about this game but that's just me. Seems we went Hollywood in about 3 weeks and now believe there own hype! Last 3 games the opponents O have marched up and down the field. Not impressed and am embracing for the worst. Just my take

If this game were being played in A2, I think Michigan would win by double-digits, but we haven't been exactly dominant on the road.

Even so, I'd be inclined to pick Michigan, but for the loss of Glasgow, which exposes our shortcomings at LB. PSU's defense has been very good lately at home, most notably against Indiana. PSU is leading the NCAA in sacks, and Nassib is leading individually in sacks. The rest of their DL is pretty stout too.

Turnovers and ST will play a critical role.

So, the last two home games for PSU were against Illinois and an IU team without their two offensive leaders (Sudfeld and Howard).  While PSU has a good defense, I am not sure they have played a half-way decent offense at home this year.  Seriously, what QBs have they faced at home?  What offensive stars?  Michigan's offense, on the other hand, seems to play as well, if not better on the road....

Come on

Every team is beat up a little at this point

No one is overlooking PSU.

Their O-Line is shaky and that's bad news for them - they won't be able to pressure us with a spread like Indiana.

It will be far from easy but I think we show up big this week.
