META: Left sidebar of main page

Submitted by Shop Smart Sho… on

I think I've realized that the site is not going to be getting the update that was talked about 2(3?) years ago, but is there any chance that the sidebar can be cleaned up?  Just going through the list of Michigan blogs linked there leads to several dead websites.

Not really complaining mind you, but it doesn't seem like something that would take a lot of effort for whomever is resonsible for the coding on the site.

I have that problem too. I missed the snowflake threads on BYU because they moved off the front page quicker than I could lose the hangover that kept me from reading them.

The sorting and <next page> functionality on the MGoBoard page is wonky too.  I've never been able to figure it out either.

Thanks for the open-in-new-tab trick.  That works.

Every site has issues, and the people who run it don't always notice. The OP doesn't come across as complaining to me.

Now, if the OP had said that Brian should be posting about something else instead, or that he shouldn't post about something, or (my favorite) that Brian should change his writing style, then I'd get out out my rusty kitchen knives.

Need more wallpaper! Where did our wallpaper guys go?

Also whatever happened to voting / creation contest for the main page banner.

Has anyone seen an LSU freek gif this year?

I'm not complaining about the site. But it would be great to have a "State of the Site" post by Brian et al.

  • What's in the works for the site.
  • When this will happen.
  • What you hope to do in the future.
  • Why things that you were planning to do or fix didn't happen.
  • What is broken that can't be fixed.
  • What is broken that will be fixed.
  • What is broken that will just continue to be broken.
  • The State of the Server.
  • A primer on different site features.
  • Updated FAQ stuff.

I mean, I come here for the content. I really don't care whether or not this happens. But iirc, different things were promised that never happened. Just nice to know what's going on.

Probably the biggest fix would be to be able to page down the board. Eleven Warriors forum is more usable in this regard. Active links would be nice. A storage system so you could look for past posts would be nice. The points don't really matter, but it is intriguing that when someone puts a new post on the board, upvotes on the OP don't tabulate . . . only upvotes on comments in the thread.

  • What's in the works for the site.
    • Magic
  • When this will happen.
    • It already has
  • What you hope to do in the future.
    • Figure out a way to fine people for double posting stuff on the side board
  • Why things that you were planning to do or fix didn't happen.
    • They had this really cool time machine all ready to implement but at the last minute there was a big argument over if they should set it for 2007 and fix the horror or 2008 and get Jeff Casteel and they broke it
  • What is broken that can't be fixed.
    • Section 1
  • What is broken that will be fixed.
    • Beveled Guilt’s ability to accept bitcoins
  • What is broken that will just continue to be broken.
    • Still going with Section 1
  • The State of the Server.
    • Works great until everybody wants to create hot takes immediately after a loss
  • A primer on different site features.
    • And those would be what exactly?
  • Updated FAQ stuff.
    • Read that page.  Not exactly a place where anybody spends a lot of time it seems (Justin Feagin?)

Whenever I select Recent Posts and then attempt to view the "My Recent Posts" tab, I get a Page not found error message.

Also, to open a new tab without right-clicking, hold down the ctrl key and then click. The "open" command is just above the "open in new tab" command.

It is OK to complain...great content on this website which really, really needs to be updated to something, if not modern, at least with functions that work.

Maybe the powers that be  should have a fundraiser for new software, server, whatever.....
