What makes him so special is talent + coachability. A lot of five stars are busts because they won't learn. Learning takes humility, and a lot of 5 star kids lose their humility by the time they get to college. That's why 4 star teams often beat 5 star teams: you have to be willing to play as a team.

its a lot easier to win with more talented players.  sure, they must buy in and work hard, and talent means little without legit coaching, but all coaches strive for the most talented 85.

teams need O playmakers (ie star QB or game breaking RB) and beasts on the DL in order to compete in and win the biggest of games.  coaching, player development, scheme, culture, etc all obviously matter - but gary is a special prospect and this program needs those types to reach the next level

Defensive efforts like todays shut out against a ranked team would truly benefit our recruiting. Also the crowds have been louder and more exctiing. It's great to see that some of the early commitments made the trip to help recruit and i too certainly hope they had the opportunity to meet Jeter.

This must have been when Stringer gave Rashan Gary and Carlo Kemp the $20. They seem happy at the thought of having pizza money.

This is Gary asking Drew Singleton if he was the one who farted.

This is Kurt Taylor saying "Holy shit it's Tyrone Wheatley".

This is Jim Harbaugh telling Bronco Mendenhall to get off his lawn.

A crushing win over a ranked opponent is our #2 recruiting tool.  #1 is the man, the myth the motherfuckin legend JIM HARBAUGH!  Who would not walk across glass to play for this man?!

for a Noon game it couldn't have gone better aside from doing that to a rival. We did the best possible job on the game/atmosphere front, IMO. Now It's about winning over his mother with absolute facts. Aub & Bama will try to tell her that they are in particular academically but she has to leave here knowing they'd be lying. Finally, we have to show him a good time tonight. I'm not sure what kind of kid he is but he seems very reserved. Either way, you get him in a group with Peppers and chill if he wants to chill or go have safe, clean, college fun if he's into that. We've got to be an A-A+ so far after 1/3 of what you need to do on a visit.

If I had a Hippenhammer,
I'd Hippen my Hammer in a noon game,
I'd be a hipper Hammer in a night game,
All over this field,
I'd hipley Hammer out Mike Dantoni,
I'd Hammer out a 2 minute warning,
I'd Hippenhammer out love between,
Little brother and that sister down south,
All over this field.

Well I've got a HippenHammer
and I've got a Gorden Bell
and I've got the Victors to sing
all over this band
It's the Hippenhammer of Justice Hayes
Mac Hammers the bell of free safetydom
It's a song about maize and blue
All over this la-a-and

(With deep apologies to Lee Hays and Pete Seger!)

Shut out victories against ranked opponents and an exciting crowd and the premier athletes will start coming in swarms. This is what this program and fans have deserved for a long time. DJ Durkin, Mattison and all the defensive coaches are proving they are brilliant.
